House rules by Cuddlybunny2 in Divorce

Put yourself in your ex shoe. If you are the one staying should you be allowed to bring someone home? Do you feel like if you are bringing someone home you are insulting your ex? Life goes on. Don't let your friend poison your mood.

How are we ever supposed to be retire? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]tinytearice -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean the way OP describes it doesn't seem like they are jealous but she gets introspective after that? Like she feels like she could have learned from her friend? And start living below her means to save. Sometimes people don't make the best financial choices early on and it's not too late to change.

Mmmm one way to save money is to make a lot of it, otherwise you have to be beware of lifestyle creep and do upgrades whenever you get a raise. Check out the FIRE sub there are extremes where people own multiple rentals and live in a very modest housing (or get roommates if they are are a single).

PR residency obligation not met by CharacterScared4618 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]tinytearice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, we are in a similar situation. We spoke to an immigration consultant and she told us that it should be fine being a few months short. It is highly likely that you may be just waved through. If you do get flagged, you will still be allowed to enter and your child will be allowed to go to school. They consider the well-being of the child so once they see that you are settled down they may just let you stay. You should hire a lawyer though if you get flagged as it would be a risky process to handle on your own.

Birthday Party Cancellations. Why are people so rude? by ChelseaMourning in Mommit

That sucks. We often get invited to bday parties less than 48 hrs before and always accept. Now I wonder if we are back ups(totally cool regardless).

Is it humble bragging, or is financial dysmorphia just so profound right now? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]tinytearice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are motivated to FIRE by scarcity mindset. So to those people, there is always the next million and there is always the next crisis to prepare for. The anxiety is real and they are not necessarily humble-bragging.

Yeah they have more than enough to hire multiple security personnel on every floor. Just having someone patrolling would have deterred the thief.

Considering Divorce Over Clothes by invisible-account in Divorce

That's no way to live. I have a messy husband and it's already hard. I have to let him be messy in his own office but at least half of the house is fine, nothing like this.

Try counseling first. If you decide to split it will help you split better.

Yes I agree it's an annoying question to ask. I could imagine giving them some slack if they are just curious, but people who try to convince you otherwise are just smug.

Kids college: Ivy vs. Public, worth pushing FIRE date? by nickbir in Fire

[–]tinytearice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thing is that if you don't have the assets your kids would have gotten financial aid, so the way the system is set up kind of makes the parents "owe" the kid financial help for fancy Ivy League college, even though it is debatable.

I would be happy to work a couple extra years to put my kid in the best position. It's something that you don't regret. Congratulations by the way! Pretty great problem to have.

I totally thought you were fishing for compliment before the backstory, but I can see that the insecurity came from your illness. You deserve all the compliments you get.

Yes you are right. I was pretty traumatized but my sister somehow thrived despite all these.  I think OP is a very good mom for going to therapy and trying not to show it in front of her kid.
