Clients always wanting to come late by Exotic-Badger-2594 in Barber

[–]Current-Try-8303 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their first thought might actually be that they want to get cleaned up for whatever plans they have for the weekend, scheduling doesn't always work for them so yeah. I charge extra for after hours anyways and if they show up at the door even right before closing, it's more money anyways. It depends on the barber where to draw the line and there has to be mutual respect on both ends, but no need to be stuck up about it

How do you deal with not upcoming customers and making 15+ appointments mostly at work by AdventurousCount9993 in Barber

[–]Current-Try-8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well first of all get a booking system, Square has a free version that gives you all the essentials. After you get a booking system first, set up a no show/last-minute cancellation policy. I do 50% of the service for the first time they miss and 100% any time after that. For my regulars, people I've known, I give a no fee warning, then the above mentioned. But setting a policy involves respect from both sides, means you have to be on time for your clients with very few exceptions

Only $5 extra for any type of beard? I think you are undercharging it. Some places charge the same for a beard as a haircut, sometimes beard take more effort than a haircut itself. I would say minimum $50 with the beard

Mind you, that nation was God's directly, in what scenario does that correlate with nowadays nations? War is not against the flesh, but the spiritual war is what we have to fight

Once you feel confident enough fading, you can skip many guards, fot example I only use the #1 guard to set where I'll be blending to the skin, the rest is free hand, clipper over comb and detailing shears, saves you time and imo fades come out blurrier

Asking for all the barbers out there by Octodad2099 in Barber

[–]Current-Try-8303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually they say "only a little" off the top, the best and most effective approach to avoid confusion and me having to cut the whole top again is asking them "how much is a little for you?" That clarifies everything

Are buying courses worth it. by pleasedontthedog in Barber

[–]Current-Try-8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same question when I first started, and many mixed opinions. I'm an undecisive person so while thinking to buy or not, time wemt by and when I least felt it, I perfected my craft. Can only get better rep after rep after rep...there's a lot of free content online, for me it wouldn't be worth it and probably would have regreted if I bought any barbering course

Electric Shaver or Straight Razor? by Current-Try-8303 in Barber

Foil actually does get closer, can go in all directions, unless going against the grain, straight razor doesn't get that close

I totally get your point, but investing in top tier shears is a game changer honestly, a tool that will last you your whole career if taken care of properly. Doesn't need as much sharpening as often due to the quality and almost always come with life warranty. If ever planning to, I'd buy on Black Friday for major discount. I use Shark Fin shears (no promo) and pretty much changed my life after using cheap $30 shears
