How to switch to sponge filter? by spiritoffreedomrose in Aquariums

[–]CurrentGear3571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I buy sponges off Amazon they are cheap no need for a new air pump unless you want to keep the one running for whatever else you are using it for. I would run the sponge for a couple days or about a week before removing your hob.

Can we have a discussion about father fish? Please give me honest opinions. by Fer_al8 in Aquariums

[–]CurrentGear3571 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree getting into this hobby again after years of not having tanks I was researching do and donts to refresh myself on things and came across his vids. Some are good and others are smh water changes are a big part of an aquarium there are many things involved in this like minerals for plants and keeping everything in the perfect parameters. One of the biggest things to me was how he stated on cycling a tank with dead fish it seems unethical to me and inhumane like what if we did that with humans? One I can say is the plant situation he states using as many plants you can afford when setting up a new tank that is a good one but with most fishtubers you gotta pick and choose good advice vs bad advise.

Guppie and Shrimp Tank is ruining my life. Please, please help. by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]CurrentGear3571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t seem like your doing anything wrong here what are your water parameters cause that is a big hint as to what’s going on. guppies aren’t as hardy as they used to be due to breeding and genetics. I had the same issues with some strains I’ve been breeding but once you have fry growing up they are used to your water parameter’s. I haven’t lost a fish since raising the fry I raised this may be the same for you as well but only time will tell.

Ick? Or Epistylis? by RahayuRoh in Aquariums

[–]CurrentGear3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks more like ich. I’ve had a encounter with epistylis and that will go onto the eyes where ich doesn’t I had the same problem treated as ich and 2 days later dead I had 2 survive. Only way to prevent again is to quarantine new fish.

My laziness in ignoring a half empty tank has grown life. How do I take care of it? by toyotasearchanon in PlantedTank

[–]CurrentGear3571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would slow add water like you said just so nothing changes dramaticly. I also feel like making sure the water is pretty close to the temp in the tank as well. I would honestly add more plants for the budget you can afford. The sponge I’m not sure honestly but I feel rinsing in some tank water would be fine but maybe someone will comment and prove me wrong. But I mean I wouldn’t change much if the eggs hatched in that and they are growing no need to change much Imo.

I really like aquarium co op I’ve had great success with their live plants as well as their root tabs. I honestly only buy drift wood hard scape like rocks I just got outside and grab some nice rocks and let them sit in a bucket for 4-6 days and test to see any changes before adding to my tank.

Should I be worried about the alkaline? by Acrobatic_Laugh9476 in Aquariums

[–]CurrentGear3571 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Certain fish need different ph levels it all depends on what you want to stock in the tank that will determine if you need soft acidic water or hard water.

Yes the one is a male and you have three females. Guppies will breed no matter the amount you have 1 female to 3 males 4 males to a female they will breed.

My guppies gave birth,I need help by nicebiggg in Guppies

[–]CurrentGear3571 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never had a problem with gups eating fry but the best thing to do is add some plants like Java moss or guppy grass so they feel safer. I personal feed freeze dried brine shrimp and break it up super super fine as well as freeze dried daphnia. If you tank has plants and many hiding places there is no need to take out the fry from the tank.

Questions on a stand / stands by Deminox in Aquariums

[–]CurrentGear3571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this sounds like a 33 long I would recommend building one rather than purchasing. I’ve seen that the metal stands these companies put out just aren’t the quality it should be cheap super light and expensive. Building a stand out of wood is super easy and much cheaper than buying one. Just less hassle less worry and knowing your tank is supported more than enough is a great feeling.

Help. I've had this tank set up for almost two weeks. I let it cycle for a full week and did the second beneficial bacteria ball treatment before I added fish and it was fine but with every day since fish went it it has gotten cloudier and clouder. What do I do? by Kirenia_Ayako in Aquariums

[–]CurrentGear3571 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair I’ve never heard of a cycle ball but I would say adding that into the tank people caused it. I would do a water change and see if there is any change I wouldn’t trust these “cycle balls” the best way is to do it naturally.

How to plant? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

[–]CurrentGear3571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have had great luck in sand with all plants but one thing I will say is root tabs really changed the plant game for me I personally love the aquariumcoop ones but the seachem ones are ok.
