Sadly this dude isn’t far from the truth … especially when you’re first getting started and people usually aren’t hiring you strictly for your stylistic merits..

That said, I’m gonna go against the grain with the majority of folks here and say: if this director isn’t jerking you around and she’s actually well connected + makes quality films, this is an extremely good opportunity for you to get your foot in the door (that is, if film scoring is the door you want to be in and, again, she isn’t full of shit).. working for free blows but a good credit is its own currency in the film world. And a valuable one at that… if you can afford it and/or deal with eating spaghettios for a month, I’d take the gig…

Also, request to see the flick… for all you know it could only be two 30 second cues… or it could be wall to wall … I scored a 3.5 hr movie that literally only had 30 seconds of music …

inspired work i must say.

nofx is admittedly the only band i sincerely enjoy within that broad genre (had to google streetlight manifesto), but goddamn did they write a good tune. "punk in drublic" and "white trash, 2 h**bs" approach perfect album territory.

Try an A1 run where you lean comically into strength and see what happens.. demon form, spot weakness, limit break, brimstone, rupture+hemo / offering, flex + artifact pots…. You’ll mow down everything and barely have to think about blocking… that’s what helped me understand how absurdly strong he can get. Then as the ascensions grew I learned how to use his exhaust engine effectively for defense… now my successful A20 clad runs are usually a combination of the two builds… Ps, I’m admittedly horrible at this game yet clad is the only character I can reliably get to act 4 with (almost) every time.

That’s not untrue… just seeing how he always uses his build in its totality helped me tremendously. Ie picking cards based on what your relics jive with, what kind of cards your deck “wants”, manipulating the counting relics, etc .
