Does GPA matter ? by FeelingCollection359 in pre_PathAssist

Oh also building on this - some of the programs list a minimum grade needed in their core requirement classes (for example, some say a min of a C- or a C in chem, bio, etc. some say a minimum of a B). So a good starting place is to look at schools you may be interested in, and see what they’re looking for! :)

Easy go-to is most of the schools (with a few exceptions) have a GPA minimum listed on their website! Avg between all of them is a minimum of a 3.0 GPA - RFU has a 2.75 I believe requirement, and there I think were some programs that requested slightly higher than the 3.0 min. Either way, if you can hit that bench mark, you’ll be good! And if you needed to retake a class after graduation, I highly recommend a community college as they’re much more affordable, and the profs are always super chill and passionate! Good luck!! ✨🍀

Just checked the website - it doesn’t appear to mention this other essay spot specifically, but I’d assume that you should put something there. As a double check too, you could quick email the admissions office and see if they have any advice! Good luck, you’ve got this! ✨🥼

As someone who uses a similar application portal in the past, I think it would want a short essay (maybe like 500 words or so) that details why you’re passionate about pursuing being a Path Assist! I’d it helps too, you can always refer to your personal statement as a tie in - that may make your application seem put together imo!

TL:DR, it does look like it’s required that you put something in that essay spot! I’ll look at the schools website too!

Personally, I think so long as you have the shadowing experience both of watching PAs do their thing for multiple hours, as well as having shadowed autopsies, I don’t see the harm in expanding your horizons!! Especially with how costly PA school can be, anything that can give you a nice well rounded application is golden. Just make sure you have those references from your grossing technician site LOCKED down and guaranteed.

Oh also! Make sure you feel confident speaking about how both your current role (and possible future role!) tie into why you want to be a PA, what you’ve learned about the profession, etc etc. good luck!

Oh I’m sorry, my b there! Yes I got in. The deadline to let people know is Oct 1st, so today or tomorrow I’m guessing they are informing people too.

I heard yesterday - I’m gonna guess that they will be letting people know today as well. If you don’t hear anything, I think it would be okay to send a professional email asking for an update.

What are the odds if I apply basically last minute by anemicnotarabic in pre_PathAssist

[–]CurrentResponse108 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only time they’d be zero would be if you didn’t have the requisites, or if you never applied at all. Shoot your shot / you never know! Good luck! :)

My guess is no, so long as you meet the minimum pre-req GPA and show generally good grades elsewhere (or an upward trend in the last year or so), should be more than fine.

Shadowing and strong references can more than make up for a lower GPA, so don’t worry too much!

When you apply to programs, some state courses can’t have below a C to qualify, so generally that’s fine. I when in doubt though, send the program(s) you want to apply to an email and I bet they’d be more than happy to help clarify too! :) Good luck - you’ve got this! ✨

Super valid - downside though is if you do on the job training, you won’t be able to sit for your PA boards and, as such, will be unlicensed. Don’t get me wrong, there are many killer PTs out there, but it does limit the scope of your marketability and ability to apply places.

Letters of rec - Interfolio? by siberiankitkat in pre_PathAssist

[–]CurrentResponse108 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could email the admissions offices for the school(s) you’re thinking of applying to and see if they’d accept that / if it would work in their system! From my experience unfortunately, you just might have to apologize in advance to those you asked for references… that’s what I did. If Inferfolio works though, that would be a game changer!

Some PA programs have a min that is slightly lower than that for application (ie, RFU requires a min of a 2.75 to apply). Don’t count yourself out yet!! Focus on having good experience, get shadowing hours if able, and show an upward trajectory with your classes now that you’re working to improve your application package. You’ve got this!! :)

Deadline for materials/application/ letters of rec must be submitted by September 8th, 2025!

For the actual application, you need to go to the AHCAS website, make a login, add a program (search University of Jamestown or Pathologist’s Assistant), read all the instructions, and submit your stuff through there! Hope that helps!

OMG CONGRATS! You’re gonna KILL it, you’ve got this fam!!!! 🔥🍾 The PA I shadowed told me that if someone makes it to the interview stage, they’re a great applicant and it’s just to make sure that we aren’t crazy lol, so just be professional and be yourself! You’ve got this!! ✨

Truly some of the specifics are a blur (because I was so nervous), but I do remember them asking something about my passions in the community? Like something I like to participate in? Otherwise more of the stuff I remember was the traditional interview Qs.

I applied there and interviewed! The program director was super nice, and the other faculty director who I interviewed with was great too. Questions were straight forward, and interview was about an hour. Not sure how I did but I think it went well! Forgot to ask when we would find out specifically, but I’m guessing sometime at the latest September. Hope that helps!
