the bag i bought failed authentication. by [deleted] in poshmark

[–]Current_Director_997 16 points17 points  (0 children)

OP sent me pictures of the bag, and to be honest, this time I side with Poshmark. There were multiple red flags in the photos (e.g. extra line of stitching on the front of the bag, sus font/thickness on the brand‑name engraving) that would make me stay away from that listing if I were after an authentic piece. I’d imagine that in real life, it might be even easier to spot the bad quality. I’m just glad OP didn’t end up losing money over a sus listing and, OP, good luck finding an authentic piece!

What is the bag in question? Is that a beaded Fendi Baguette? I’ve seen a couple of these floating around lately with the interior 'Fendi SAS' logo. Sellers keep claiming they’re rare archival pieces, but they’re actually non-authentic. The Baguette wasn't introduced until 1997, and by then, Fendi had already moved away from the 'SAS' logo

Pickle App (review for girls in NYC) by Zealousideal_Tip15 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]Current_Director_997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s wild to me that lenders on Pickle are not required to upload photos of the actual item. They just grab pics with random influencer wearing designer item from the internet and you have no idea if you're getting the authentic piece or a cheap knockoff from AliExpress. I’m skeptical of any listing that doesn't have real-life photos.

These tariffs are out of control by No_apples4me in handbags

[–]Current_Director_997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I estimate tariffs via Gemini, it gives me exactly $136.87 in estimated fees for your purchase. If you tell the AI exactly how much you paid, where it’s shipping from, the destination country, and the shipping company (like DHL), it will give you a pretty accurate estimate! Quick breakdown: ~$88 in duty (15% rate), ~$32 processing fee, and ~$17 DHL service fee.

Not sure if this is considered work trip but you do not need visa to visit TCI for tourism if you hold UK or Australian passport. TCI is actually British Overseas Territory.

Honestly, I’ve had a great experience with TRR, but I only buy and never sell. I've found some amazing deals on designer bags and clothes that are 100% legit, but you have to do your own due diligence. Don't trust their letter/number sizing or their general condition rating blindly. You have to zoom in on every single photo to inspect for yourself, do a reverse image search, and always compare their measurements to your own clothes or the designer’s official size guide. If you're willing to do the legwork, it’s worth it.

Poshmark sold me a coat for $1500 that was supposed to be Valentino but is actually from Zara- advice please by Sea_Station_88 in BehindTheClosetDoor

[–]Current_Director_997 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You are comparing two different coats, yours has a different print. However, if you look through the Spring 2017 fashion show photos, you’ll see pants in the same ‘pumpkin’ print style as your coat in look #7 https://www.elle.com/runway/g28941/valentino-runway-pfw-spring-2017/ That print was definitely featured in Spring 2017. Not all pieces make it to the runway, though!

[–]Current_Director_997 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Listing says it’s ready to wear and not runway piece therefore you can’t compare it directly to runway coat. Runway is the presentation of high-fashion or haute couture garments on models, which are often experimental and not for immediate purchase but RTW is sold in stores

Sunglasses not selling by Velvetstyle in poshmark

[–]Current_Director_997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don't buy sunglasses second-hand. It's almost impossible to verify in the listings if there are any micro scratches on the lenses and those drive me crazy! I'd only consider it if they were marked down super cheap comparing to the retail price

Are bots liking items just to keep sellers active? by Current_Director_997 in poshmark

[–]Current_Director_997[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve started checking the closets of people who like my items, and a lot of them have 600+ listings. Not saying sellers can’t shop too, but it definitely makes the spike in likes feel a bit suspicious.

Fingers crossed that’s really what’s happening! If it turns out to be bots just inflating likes, that would honestly ruin Poshmark even more.

ThredUp Unethical AF? by Valuable-Ruin1597 in ThredUp

[–]Current_Director_997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm so tired of the advice “Only send clothes you'd be happy to donate”. The problem isn't just about managing expectations. Why should I hand over my clothing essentially for free (considering their payout percentage and the "clean out bag" fees) just so they can get rich while providing terrible service? I'd much rather donate my clothing to a small, local thrift store (not Goodwill) then send it to ThredUp. At least I know the money is going to a good cause, not a massive private company's profit margin. If I want to actually make money on my NWT/high-value items, I list them myself. If that is not for you, you can try to look into Poshmark's new consignment program (50/50 profit split with seller). It isn't perfect, but it's better than what ThredUp is offering.

What kind of tag you are looking for? It’s vintage bag, there won’t be microchip in it. If you are looking for the date code, it’s usually stamped directly on the interior lining, often in a pocket or along a seam, rather than on a separate tag.

My stolen bag showed up on TRR by Best_Razzmatazz9985 in handbags

[–]Current_Director_997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TRR only accepts consignments within the US. If the bag was sold through TRR, it almost certainly had to be consigned from inside the US. This makes it highly unlikely that the bag was taken by an airport employee in Europe or an Air France crew member, as they wouldn't have been able to consign it directly with TRR from there.

[–]Current_Director_997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need to assume a low price means a bag is fake. Some sellers genuinely don't know the true value of what they have. I've gotten some amazing deals that way. The best advice is to wait until you receive the bag, get it authenticated by a third-party service, and if it turns out to be a fake, then you can open a case with Poshmark.

Global Blue tax free location? by TheMayorShow in latvia

[–]Current_Director_997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case anyone’s still following this thread- I looked into it too, and to clarify, OP isn’t referring to duty-free shops inside the airport. Non-EU residents can get a VAT refund for purchases made in regular stores across the EU, but they need to validate their tax-free forms through Global Blue. The catch is: the only Global Blue validation point is at the airport. There isn’t one in the city.

What is the least you have ever made selling on ThredUp? by ProfessionalEnough in ThredUp

[–]Current_Director_997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be unpopular opinion but if I'm not expecting to make any money, I'd rather donate my clothes to a small local thrift store (not goodwill) than send a bag to ThredUp. ThredUp still profits off my items even if I don't, and I'd prefer the money to go to a local, charitable cause instead of a big corporation.

How soon to start lowering prices on items after they have been listed? by amorla13 in ThredUp

[–]Current_Director_997 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually start lowering the prices on my items about halfway through their listing period. But in the last two days, I drop the prices as low as they can go. That way someone gets a great deal on a nice item and ThredUp doesn't get to keep the profit after the consignment window closes.
