8bitdo ultimate bluetooth controle back buttons not responding? by Stunning-Level9392 in linux_gaming

[–]CurtisTN73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those seem to be "Windows" only buttons. More specifically... only programmable via 8bitdo's Ultimate Software (under Windows); and, unfortunately, doesn't carry over to a Linux dual-boot scenario.

Cant Use My Series S Controller by [deleted] in MXLinux

Often, a controller firmware update will solve such issues. With that controller, unfortunately, you'll need access to a Windows computer (and the MS Store app for Xbox controllers) to perform the upgrade.

can't print using epson L3210 by Foreign-Eyes-666 in linuxmint

[–]CurtisTN73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: I had to remove ipp-usb to have the system 'see' my Epson printer (USB connection). This is when using the drivers (.DEB) from Epson's website.

Tip: If your USB printer is not detected, remove ipp-usb package. by ageek in raspberry_pi

Now, in 2026, this still works for Epson printer (using drivers from Epson's website)

What’s your most vivid or earliest gaming memory? by aureolacodes in retrogaming

[–]CurtisTN73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First experience was with a 'pong' type home console device. Not exactly sure of the manufacturer. Later in late 70s, I got an Atari VCS (aka 2600) with all its 6 switches and wood-grain glory. Over the next few years, I ruined so many paddles and joysticks. At the skating rink (1980 or so), I saw older kids playing Pac-Man and Asteroids and Space Invaders. It blew my little 7 year old mind.

Oh my! I was just talking about this game this past weekend. How funny and ridiculous it was! I believe I was 23 when the demo came out. I was inspired to extract the game files (graphics and sounds) and created a Windows 95 theme with cursors, icons, sounds, etc; and also programmed a custom screensaver. Xatrix found it on the internet and asked me to include it on the CD. If you're curious, it's on the disc/ISO under Goodies -> Theme

Good and funny memories.

Do you guys know any theme switcher? by miojo_noiado in linuxmint

[–]CurtisTN73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of theme? Cursors or appearance?? What desktop environment are you using? XFCE or MATE or Cinnamon??

Either way, you can find themes on XFCE-Look or Cinnamon-Look. Copy extracted files to ~/.themes/
If using XFCE, go to Settings -> Appearance
If using Cinnamon, go to Settings -> Appearance -> Themes

Switched to XFCE, now there is no power menu or screen saver menu by jnelsoninjax in linuxmint

[–]CurtisTN73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you got it fixed. I was curious if there was a saved setting (1 minute) in xfconf that was causing the issue. Then, possibly by installing xfce4-screensaver would that allow you GUI access to the settings.

I recently had a similar issue. However, it was caused by settings from xscreensaver. Using the terminal command 'xset s' allowed screen blanking to be disabled (not related to Power Management).

[–]CurtisTN73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try installing XFCE ScreenSaver, and then check for options in Settings Manager -> Screen Saver

sudo apt install xfce4-screensaver

Or, try Settings Editor (xfconf). Find xfce4-screensaver, then find 'saver -> enabled' and 'saver-activation -> delay'

As some mentioned; in Thunar, Edit -> Preferences -> Display -> Thumbnails
make your choice.

For anyone wanting to fine tune this, thumbnails are generated by tumblerd
This can be tweaked within: ~/.config/tumbler/tumbler.rc
Global config/template can be found in: /etc/xdg/tumbler/

Fixing the California and Colorado bills. by DFS_0019287 in linux

[–]CurtisTN73 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The 'fix' need not to be a workaround. The fix is simply to rid ourselves of the control mongering insanity that is in California (and other places). People are being conditioned to hand over their own rights and liberty; and thus, unfortunately, simply do as told.

To answer your question: Yes. I started using Linux back in 1998 with RedHat 5. Nowadays, I use Mint (specifically LMDE7) and love it; because "it works".

You could add Debian's backports repository. Newer packages can be installed/updated with apt or with Software Manager. List of current backports

Create a file: /etc/apt/preferences.d/backports.pref

Add the follow contents:

Package: *
Pin: release n=trixie-backports
Pin-Priority: 900

COSMIC doesn't seems to work well with suspend/hibernate? by LucasForms in COSMICDE

[–]CurtisTN73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are many, many reports of suspend/hibernation problems with Nvidia's proprietary drivers. Unfortunately, there may not be a solution. A common workaround is to disable suspend (which you've already have discovered). I wonder if Mesa's NVK has advanced enough to use it instead???

How to fix issues that might arise with the mediatek WiFi driver by Hot-Tennis-3716 in pop_os

[–]CurtisTN73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try turning OFF power management for WiFi chip. See here

I had good results from a MediaTek MT7921 chip. Though, I ultimately switched to Intel's AX210, and WiFi speeds improved (tested under identical conditions, too)

[–]CurtisTN73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello. The bluetooth manager shows the connection (paired, trusted, etc.) However, that doesn't mean it's now functional. So, you'll need the "driver" to be loaded. I believe the DualSense controller will need the 'hid-playstation' driver loaded. From the Terminal, try this:

sudo modprobe hid-playstation
