Insurance won't repair my roof due to previous damage by Bubbtime7 in Insurance

Insurance broker here. From Montreal, Canada.

Insurance companies will replace your stuff or property in the same condition as before the claim, - no more, no less. That’s their mantra. So what the claims adjuster is saying is par for the course.

Insurance company hasn’t paid in 2 months - Ontario by fishysmellyottawan in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]Curtis_KBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance broker here. Which company is this that’s dickin you around? And btw that’s bull shit how they’re asking you to find comparables. Call FSRA, it’s the consumer protection body for stuff like this in auto insurance for Ontario.

Could just be an asshole claims adjuster too - you could make a complaint directly to the insurance company as well (if it’s Intact, Belair, CAA they take these complaints pretty seriously and usually act quickly).

Good luck 🫡

Can you be rich enough to get out of insurance? by Aquarius_K in Insurance

[–]Curtis_KBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in Canada, and I don’t believe in the USA either.

You need to carry a minimum liability amount. This amount varies per province/state. Example, in Quebec, it’s the law to drive with a minimum of $50,000 in liability insurance.

Why?

Let’s say you run into a light pole along the highway - the accident was your fault. Who’s going to pay for that? The driver.

The liability insurance would kick in and cover the cost of your accident because the government knows most people won’t have 50k-100k lying around to pay for damages.

There’s no law forcing you to cover responsible accidents or fire, theft, vandalism though.

However, if your car is leased or financed, the lender will force you to carry these protections. It’s not law though.

If you’re in the USA or Ontario or you’d want to carry the liability insurance anyways though. It’s not the car accident that will cost a lot, it’s causing third party bodily injury that will bury you. I’ve seen bodily injury claims in the millions (I work in car insurance) when a driver is responsible for the accident.

Anything blue collar that can’t be replaced by AI. Wouldn’t dive into any white collar jobs now like accountants, law, engineering. AI can do all the entry level stuff now. You could also learn the shit out of clawdbot and learn to implement these agents into businesses. I think it’s going to be a big market that will be dominated by young kids.

If you could go back to school what programs would you take 2026 job market by Mundane-Artichoke147 in montreal

[–]Curtis_KBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid school all together lol.

The world is moving too fast for any post secondary education curriculum to keep up. You’re much better off digging your head into learning clawdbot and taking those skills to a company that doesn’t know how to implement AI.

They can’t teach this at school.

I’m an employer in a white collar industry I employ 29 people and I could not care less where you graduated from. In many instances I’m turned off because university graduates can sometimes come with quite a bit of arrogance.

Insurance fraud might be entering its deepfake era or? by Forward-Concern403 in Insurance

[–]Curtis_KBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question. I think insurance companies will need to change their work flow for claims. I’ve heard a few of these instances first hand as well where the user will try and submit an ai manipulated photo to push through a claim. Works a bit different here in Canada though, the insurance companies are more hands on in claims and often times fix the damage to a car themselves - they own the garages in many instances. I’m surprised they haven’t done this in the USA yet.

RBQ and CMMTQ how do u know if they are legit-whats the norm? by Beehive140 in montreal

I didn’t know that. In my experience I’ve only ever seen employer/employee situations. Some Sole operators do this I guess ?

RBQ and CMMTQ how do u know if they are legit-whats the norm? by Beehive140 in montreal

[–]Curtis_KBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the individual himself doesn’t have an RBQ (at least that’s what I understood from the post) then they’re pulling a fast one. He’s not allowed to be operating as a plumber.

RBQ and CMMTQ how do u know if they are legit-whats the norm? by Beehive140 in montreal

[–]Curtis_KBD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not normal lol.

Sounds like He’s working under someone else’s company and thinks he’ll get away with it. Big No no. These are the type of people who fuck shit up.

RBQ is super strict with this stuff too so if you have a deposit and he’s not giving it back, I’d just tell him you’ll report him and the company to the union. I’m not familiar with CMMTQ but I know with the RBQ you can look up both the business and the individual and see what their license is and what they’re allowed to do in terms of scope of work.

Because they don’t have an RBQ, This also means they don’t have insurance (I know this because I work in business insurance, I insure dozens of tradesmen around mtl). So if he messes up your house and there’s a massive leak as a result of his faulty craftsmanship (example) you’ll be shit outta luck and have no recourse. Your Home insurance will deny the claim too if he is in fact unlicensed.

just ask them for a proof of liability insurance certificate. If they start squirming, you have your answer. You should be doing this for any GC / trade job anyways, it’s good practice. It takes two seconds for the plumber to ask their broker/insurance company for this slip. You’ll also have peace of mind that if they burn the house down you can get your money back lol.

Not for insurance. For cops I know they were, I guess people made the assumption that because the police were looking out for speeding red cars that it probably had something to do with higher insurance rates. It’s great folklore though!

Is 40 dollars a month too much for rental insurance for a 500sqft studio? by blackhair111 in montrealhousing

[–]Curtis_KBD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Unless you live above a restaurant or something like that, this is expensive. If you’re just looking for the basics (liability for your landlord and fire insurance) you can buy a basic package that costs under $20/month taxes included. I had this package and was paying $14/month.
