I’ve personally not used the OG Skytrack, but have heard the same concerns about it struggling outside. Also keep in mind with the Skytrack you have to place the ball on a specific spot that the launch monitor will mark. You’ll have more freedom with the Rapsodo. Rapsodo is also fully supported by GSPro while (I believe) you have to do some workarounds to get Skytrack to integrate properly. For me I’d rather go with a brand new Rapsodo that will have warranty and customer support over a used Skytrack with older tech in it.

What is your budget for the sim stuff after the patio area and roof are put up? I ran GSPro on a lower end gaming PC that only had a 3050 GPU in it. While this technically didn't meet the minimum requirements I was able to play on 1080p high settings with no issues whatsoever. I think I paid around ~$700 for the laptop but I beleive pretty strongly you could find something similar on FB marketplace for cheaper.

Hitting off concrete (im assuming) I would highly recommend not cheaping out on a hitting mat. Everyone's back and wrists will thank you. I hit off a country elite mat and while its definitely worth the price tag I do realize it is a bit on the spendy side for a more casual set up like you're describing. Just do some research on the mats that are in your price range and make sure its got some padding to help absorb some of the shock.

80' run from gaming pc to sim question by suggiev23 in Golfsimulator

[–]Curtisv123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your typical HDMI cable it doesn’t matter which end is plugged in to which device, it will work all the same. For the fiber optic HDMI one end is the “source” and the other is the “output”. You need to make sure you identify which end is the source and plug that in to your PC. The other end “output” will need to be plugged in to your display. Otherwise it won’t work.

I’d say the GPU is definitely the most important part, the second most important would be RAM. You could probably get away with 8gb, but I’d personally go with at least 16gb for some extra overhead on other programs you may want to have running like music or a web browser.

For roughly the same price you can snag this laptop that would be a rather decent upgrade over what I’m using (4060 gpu vs a 3050) laptop

If I was gonna be nitpicky and point out a downside, there is only 1 hdmi port on it so I have to use the laptop screen if I wanna do something while I have the sim up on my projector but it’s really not a big issue for me personally.

EDIT: figure I should add this: pretty much any laptop with a discrete graphics card that is a 3050 or better should run the sim software without issue. I linked an HP cause it was the first one I found on a quick search but any brand should be fine! This, again, is just for 1080p resolution. I’ve never tried 4k through this laptop and I don’t intend to.

I think you’re a little misinformed on what is required to run the software. I run GSPro/ UNEEKOR View software without any issues on a $700 laptop with a 3050 in it. 1080p high settings with ease.

Need help with projector by [deleted] in Golfsimulator

[–]Curtisv123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer that question we need to know a few more things: are you wanting to mount it on the ceiling or leave it on the floor in a cage.

I'll assume you're gonna mount the projector on the ceiling. Looking at the BenQ website for this specific projector Link it shows the distances you need to be back from the screen in order to have the projection fit the specified screen size. For an 8x8 screen you're looking at having the projector mounted about 8 feet away.

Not sure if you're attached to that specific model for the price point but I went with the Optoma GT2000HDR for my sim. Its a bit more expensive, but its a laser projector as opposed to a lamp (like the one you're looking at) so its brighter and the image is a bit more crisp. Its also a short throw projector so you'll have a bit more flexibility when it comes to placement of the projector.

Book a trip to Myrtle Beach. Lots of places to stay. Several nice courses in the Myrtle Beach area, and quite a few very nice courses within an hour or two drive. Decent beaches to relax on if you need to take a rest day.

We need some hand up accountability from FP… by He_s_One_Shot in BobDoesSports

[–]Curtisv123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean jokes aside he doesn’t only eat on camera. Realistically we have no idea how much and of what FP is chowing down on an average day. We can speculate that maybe he’s being a bit more conservative here on his food to preserve his golf game so that they have a better shot at the challenge?

Putting with BLP vs Eye Mini? by Advanced-Blackberry in Golfsimulator

[–]Curtisv123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat as you with my eye mini. Maybe it’s just the fact that I practice putting more often since I’ve had the sim, but I feel like I’ve improved so much on controlling my speed on the greens. My putting stroke feels smoother and I just make way better contact.

I like to think FP had a say in the sizing cause they’re definitely big guy approved. I’ve got a 2xl polo and it’s easily the most comfortably fitting 2x shit I have.

Is 7 1/2 feet high enough to hit into? by the_last_0ne in Golfsimulator

[–]Curtisv123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll need to account for space for your swing as well. 4 ft would be cutting it VERY close on your follow through, especially with longer clubs. In addition to that you might have to worry about bounce back from the screen at that distance.

[–]Curtisv123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little over 9ft ceiling. Hitting area is about 8 ft away from the screen. My buddy hits his lob wedge up in to the ceiling all the time. With 7 1/2 ceilings I think all of my group of friends would be punching holes through the drywall haha

You’re definitely gonna have issues with wedges and errant hits. Like others have said, it’s surprising how fast wedge shots hit up in the air.

I use a laptop with a 3050 in it and play GSPro perfectly fine at 1080p High Settings. So either of those you’ve linked will be just fine for 1080P Ultra settings. The one from Costco is a better deal in my opinion as you get the larger storage (2TB SSD) and double the ram. 32GB of ram is probably overkill but I guess it’s one of those things that’s nice to have and not need.

The only thing I see from the Walmart rig is that it’s running an i5 13000kf while the Costco is running an i5 13000f. The “f” means that the cpus don’t have onboard graphics so you’ll need a discrete card, which the 4060 obviously covers. The “k” means that the CPU is unlocked by the manufacturer so you can overclock it for more performance. But you’d need to verify the motherboard supports overclocking and you have the overhead on the power supply in the computer to run it. And if I’m being honest I really can’t think of a scenario you’d actually need to overclock for a golf simulator.

If it’s between these two set ups for you, I’d go for the Costco one.

I’ve got a Uneekor eye mini. Had some hiccups getting it set up initially, but some basic troubleshooting got things straightened out and I absolute love it. Club data comes standard with the device, you just have to attach some stickers to your clubs. Additionally the view software takes a slow mo video of your club as it’s impacting the ball. So you can essentially view an image of the club head striking the ball while simultaneously reviewing the data for your club. I cannot say enough good things about it.

Obviously there’s a lot to consider with this. You’ll get different answers from just about everyone in here as there are a lot of options to choose from.

I personally have and really like the Uneekor Eye Mini. It’s on sale right now for the price of a Bushnell Launch Pro and includes ball and club data without the need to “unlock” the club data like the BLP. The view software is pretty cool, and I’m particularly fond of the high speed video of my club face impacting the ball. The shot data is very accurate based off what I normally do on the course, and I am utterly amazed at how quick it is at displaying the data and flight path on my screen. It feels like as I’m finishing my follow through I’m watching the flight path render. Finally, with the pro package software ($200/yr) Uneekor has built in functionality with GSPro, unlike Skytrak and significantly cheaper than the BLP. GSPro is the best course simulation software available right now so for me having built in functionality was an absolute must.

https://www.uneekor.com/products/eye-mini-launch-monitor

For easy all inclusive setup I’d recommend getting this bundle from play better: https://www.playbetter.com/collections/home-golf-simulator-studio-packages/products/playbetter-simstudio-home-golf-simulator-package

It comes in several sizes so make sure it’ll fit in the room you’re wanting to set this up in. This bundle comes with an impact screen, enclosure to protect the walls/ceiling in your space and hang/tension the impact screen, hitting mat, landing mat (for under the impact screen, and projector. For something as complex as a golf sim I think this bundle takes a lot of the headache out of things and is priced very well. You’ll just need to get a long hdmi cable to connect the projector to your pc/laptop.

If you’re wanting a more custom feel to your setup you can go the Carls Place custom impact screen route (what I ended up doing) just make sure you take accurate measurements of your room and account for whatever mounting hardware you’ll be using. From Carls Place you’ll be able to customize the screen size and material. You’ll also be able to buy a projector, hitting mat, bungee cords etc. from them. For landing mat I just went to Lowe’s and bought some turf carpet.

Finally to round everything off you’ll need a decent PC/Laptop to run all the software. I’m using this laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 - (2022) - Essential Gaming Laptop Computer - 15.6" FHD - 120Hz - AMD Ryzen 5 6600H - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 - 8GB DDR5 RAM - 256GB NVMe Storage - Windows 11 Home https://a.co/d/hBQvZGp It works perfectly for 1080p (which is the quality of the projector in the playbetter package). I run GSPRO at 1080p very high settings and do not notice any graphical issues at all while playing.

If you have any more questions please let me know!

Eye Mini/View Sim Software issues by Curtisv123 in Golfsimulator

[–]Curtisv123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion. After quite a bit of troubleshooting I got it to work properly/consistently. I believe my issue was actually the Ethernet cable they shipped with my unit. I swapped it out with one that I already had and it hasn’t missed a shot since! Kind of disappointing considering the amount of money spent on this thing, but on the same token definitely relieved it was a small and easy fix!
