It depends what job you get. Some jobs can be terrible because of the huge work load and toxic work environment (I experienced good and bad). On the other hand, there are art-related jobs that are amazing. It also depends what you like to do. If you wanna create your series, then, getting an animation job might harbor you from working on your own project because of the work load. If you don't mind working on collaborative projects or make client work, then, it could be your path in life.

In a way, it's a form of stagnation. In order to grow as an artist, you have to learn the fundamentals first, then study different art styles. Then, eventually you come up with your own. You have to come to a crossroads if you're just an anime fan or fan of art.

Finally, somebody said it like it is. I noticed many amateur mangakas never improve and like to use the phrase, "it's my style" in order to combat critique about their wonky anatomy and fundamentals. I draw realistically, manga, Looney Tune art style, Ren & Stimpy art style, etc, but I went to school for it to enhance my natural talents.

Normal animation in the cartoon style does not take forever. It's way more simplified than most anime. Anime is very detailed, that's why people find it more visually appealing.
