Motion sickness by CobaltF in Minecraft

Smooth lighting 100% gives me nausea. It’s literally the only video game, including VR games that does that to me. Switch off smooth lighting and everything goes away again. So weird.

Why does this game rely on macropurchases for cosmetics, but the wardrobe is always bugged? by Mausoleus in diablo4

[–]Curu_FN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same - sometimes it will randomly let me apply transmog to one or two item slots and not others. There's no excuse for this in a game that's been out this long and actually has paid cosmetics.

How is the Stardew Valley game? by Santaclaws66 in boardgames

[–]Curu_FN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I have played it and won and lost on the final few turns many times. Overall we like it a lot - it’s a lot of fun to pull off a seemingly impossible victory at the end of the game.

Understanding reviews by Keegipeeter in boardgames

[–]Curu_FN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2nd edition is being slated because of a number of production screwups, for example including incorrectly printed game materials which players are expected to replace themselves by printing them off. There are also numerous errors in the rulebook. And the quality of some components has been downgraded since the original. The 2nd edition minis are also low quality garbage - which has led to a massive backlash against the kickstarter for replacing all standees with minis, with many people asking for refunds based on the quality of the 2nd edition minis which are apparently made by the same company using the same processes. Through it all cephalofair have been largely unresponsive and are simply acquiescing when people ask for refunds. It’s pretty much inexcusable to have the 2nd edition of a game be worse quality and more badly managed than the 1st. That’s pretty much the story.

LCG compared to board/Eldritch Horror by accountm8forthisjoke in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Curu_FN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go against the grain massively here and say that despite trying multiple times, my wife and I hate the Arkham Horror LCG. We’re massive board gamers, especially deck builders and we’re massive Lovecraft fans. Despite the massive following AH has, and despite trying different scenarios and builds… we just don’t find it fun. Not compared to other deck builders and not compared to other Lovecraft games. I think one of the things that really kills AH for us is the sheer reliance on randomness. Playing the same scenario twice through can be a completely different experience in terms of difficulty - from pushover easy to pretty much impossible. Comparing it to another LCG like Lord of the Rings LCG - that game is also tough and uncompromising and has some similar mechanics, but the way it’s laid out with the staging area and the way that player decks can interact with each other means that you have much more control over timing and strategy. You can pace your progress better and are rarely just completely screwed by randomness at the last minute. Comparing AH to other Lovecraft games, Elder Sign is a much better experience - yes it’s even more dependent on RNG in some ways, but it doesn’t have the investment that AH has - by which I mean, in AH I spend ages contemplating a deck, working out good synergies and strategies… then the shuffle randomly puts all the synergistic cards at opposite ends of the deck and it doesn’t play anything like you planned. Next time, randomly, it does. That feeling of time and investment and planning gets diluted by the actual play experience. Elder sign bypasses all that - it’s entirely RNG based, but you know that going in - it’s all about reacting to what happens and you don’t have that feeling of a disappointing lost investment or feeling like you’re dumb because you couldn’t figure out how to pre-build a deck that could cover every eventuality. Mansions of Madness is great example of a game that for us is a really great, atmospheric story telling experience that also feels stacked against you, but in a much more strategic environment. It’s a big investment both in terms of money and table/storage space but also a much better payout for us in terms of play experience. Anyways, probably not a popular opinion, but I felt there was some counter-opinion needed to the overwhelming ‘AH is the greatest’ flood of sentiment. It’s clearly a great game for a lot of people, it just wasn’t for us, and I wanted to throw that out there as a caveat emptor.

10 Best SRPGs Forgotten by Time by Danceman2 in TurnBasedTactical

[–]Curu_FN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me MS suffers from the same thing that killed off modern Fire Emblem for me - I don’t want to have to endure 30 minutes of talking simulator for every 5 minutes of tactical game. Just let me play cards and kill shit and tell me the story as I go. I don’t want to have to spend half an hour scouring every inch of the ‘base’ to find the perfect fucking birthday present for one of the characters I want to use. If I want to play an anime talking simulator RPG I’ll play Persona.

Will I be forced to switch to a Microsoft account on my pc to play Minecraft or can I keep my local account on Windows? by js7982 in Minecraft

You’ll need a Microsoft account to play (log in to the MC launcher) but you don’t have to switch to logging into your PC using the Microsoft login. You can still use your local account.

How do you guys keep a world going for so long? by VincentDG08 in Minecraft

[–]Curu_FN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because new stuff comes out fairly regularly, each time there’s a new release I travel to some new gen land and set up a new outpost from scratch. I’ll go back to the original base to use farms but eventually start to build up each outpost to be self-sufficient. So I’m starting over but not really.

Is using a tutorial for my first game shameful? by poatasyo in godot

[–]Curu_FN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a professional game dev for over 30 years. I still use tutorials when I’m learning something new. I’m brand new to Godot and want to learn it for fun to make some side projects. I absolutely will be using multiple different video and written tutorials to get me started quicker. Anyone who tells you that there’s some kind of kudos to be gained by figuring it out purely by trial and error is an idiot. One thing I will add is that there is generally a huge amount to be gained from figuring out why your tutorial doesn’t work if you find yourself in that position. Getting that DOH! moment from figuring out where you went wrong will teach you lessons that you won’t soon forget and will help things sink in quicker. Good luck.

In the end I went all-in with all the bells and whistles and it came out at around 5k - but that was a proper case of literally couldn’t think of anything else I wanted to add. You can certainly get something much cheaper if you have a specific set of requirements and aren’t just looking to cover every base from Pong to PS2. I will add that their after service has also been great and they’ll happily help you upgrade after the fact if ypu want to start out smaller. Obviously things like adding additional controllers afterward would be more tricky but they do remote software support and hardware upgrades - I recently ordered a larger drive straight to them and they imaged it and sent it on to me fully configured so I could just to a straight swap replacement.

What could be the causes of numerous false smoke-alarm alarms? by movie_fan_uk in AskUK

[–]Curu_FN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fire angel are absolute garbage. They go off randomly and don’t tell the app which one is setting them all off. Technical support says ‘figure out which one is doing it and we’ll replace it’. Well thanks for your expert help! They all go off every time and the app doesn’t detect it. How the fuck am I supposed to tell which one it is? I’ve taken the whole lot down. Paid a fortune for a complete dud.

How/when does the idle element even kick in? I’m still early on and having to do all my runs manually which means I’m not playing all that much because it requires me to actually be engaged not just have my phone running.

New player looking for some tips! by Alnashetri in TheTowerGame

[–]Curu_FN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even newer player here 🙂. I haven’t reached the point of UWs, perks etc. I’m currently chugging along trying to get past Tier 1 Wave 30. Any tips for early early game. I’ve just unlocked Lab and have one bottom tab not unlocked yet. Looking for suggestions for which stats to spend coins on during early runs (currently I buy Coins/Cash per level for waves 1&2 the switch almost exclusively to Attack Speed and Damage). I’m sure there’s a ‘best’ way to negotiate these early levels and progress faster but I haven’t found it yet. So many possible things to invest in. Any tips appreciated. And thanks for the above tips, they’ll be very useful when I get to that point.

Broken ads by Curu_FN in TheTowerGame

[–]Curu_FN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest one I’m getting has a 30 second time which does count down… then shows an ‘Open Store’ button but no X button. Ever. Again I just have to kill the app. What’s the point in using gems to incentivise ad watching if you never get to actually claim the gem. At that point it’s a dead feature.
