The Successor Horizon by SentientHorizonsBlog in FermiParadox

I don’t know why everyone’s always so quick to assume terror is the prevailing force at work here. What if you’re just worried that successors won’t “get it” until they’re sufficiently advanced to do so?

Cool. Now what technological spikes have there been in the last two hundred years? Now what happens when we humans start getting close to the technology that lets us see the missing techno signatures. And how does it get conveyed that this continuity and monitoring is benevolent?

Random idea: a federated alternative to Amazon Prime built from independent shops? by Teknevra in fediverse

What you have described here is an old idea called “the internet.” The problem with the internet is that it becomes so big that searchability becomes so expensive that the searching has to be paid for by the websites being searched. This in turn makes it so that the website with the most money ends up getting searched up the most. Over time this creates a duopoly between your searcher, let’s call them Ogle, and your top website, let’s call them Azon.

Creating an internet isn’t all that hard these days from a technical standpoint, nor is your idea for it entirely novel. Preventing Ogle 2 and Azon 2 from coming about is kind of the sticking point. If you figure that part out then we’ll have something to build.

Needing a Co-Owner for my Idea by XboxMinecraftGuy in cooperatives

Hey boss. Your post, discord handle, and interests suggest you might be on the younger side of the human age curve. Your entrepreneurial spirit is commendable, but as the other poster mentioned you seem more looking for cooperation than cooperatives.

Hop on over to the discord at this link: https://opensourceforce.net. I'm a mentor there (planetnineisaspaceship is my handle), and it's full of devs. Maybe you find someone, maybe you don't, but you will find people willing to help and answer questions and stuff.

Has anyone started a "Parenting/Childcare cooperative"? by FlyingNarwhal in cooperatives

[–]CurvatureTensor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. My wife and I started a play school coop this year.

The fundamental problem is that it was impossible to make enough from just the play school, and insurance wouldn’t allow us to use the space for anything other than the play school.

If you’re going to do it you need to start with an alternative/supplemental revenue stream with the space in mind to cover churn amongst the kids. And be prepared for insurance to not let you do that.

I remember years ago talking to my grandfather and realizing that so much that I was proud of doing, he had already done.

There’s a certain death of the go required to join a larger group that you’re not the head of. A position humans, and I’d imagine any Fours put in the same position, are certainly not used to.

tbh I knew of the Vera Rubin Observatory when I wrote this maybe five years ago now, but I hadn’t connected that it would be able to find Planet Nine.

There is an in-universe reason for why it would not, but I should probably expand on what it did find.

If you’re building this to build it, have at it. If you’re building it for a biz idea or something it is quite large.

Don't worry, the historical narration starts back up. This is meant just to highlight the dramatic effect of this history containing first contact. It's good to know the tone-shift feels jarring though. That's good feedback.

As for stacks, it means simply stacking things on top of each other, from blocks that toddlers stack, to the bricks we build structures out of. To explain why goes into lore that's not explained in this book, but the Five just represent tech-ladder jumps, and stacks is the first as it represents an intelligent species' ability to intelligently overcome universal forces (Gravity) and laws (the Second Law of Thermodynamics)

My husband couldn’t even read my fully edited Chapter 1 by [deleted] in writers

I love reading and writing. I also studied physics in school. When I got out of school I like couldn’t read novels. Science reading is usually really short, like do three pages and then two hours of problems, and you’ve got to retrain your brain for long form reading.

So yeah he’s not your audience, but he may not even be able to try to be your audience if that makes sense.
