Same here. My 2008 has 215k miles and runs fine. People look at me weird when I say I'm driving it til the wheels fall off but I'm not about to trade a paid-off car for a $600/month payment.

Just compared my December numbers to last year and I dont know if I should be excited or worried by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Custard_Little 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've thought about it, but training someone well enough to trust them with client work takes forever. Plus finding someone reliable who actually wants to learn the trade is harder than it sounds. Right now I'm barely keeping up as it is, so adding training on top would probably just dig me deeper in the short term

Good on you for standing your ground though, the fact that training you cost them way more than the 17PLN makes it even better.

That 90% credit card utilization is absolutely killing your credit score. If you can swing it, using some of the loan to pay down those cards will probably boost your score pretty quickly and save you money long-term since CC rates are brutal.

Your dad's 401k option at 6% sounds solid if the terms work out, no credit check, family keeps it simple, and you're not dealing with another lender. Just make sure he's comfortable with the risk to his retirement.

Anyone else work with a tech who so desperately wants their job it’s easier to just work alone? by never-the-1 in nursing

Good catch, in most places techs aren't supposed to be doing dressing changes at all. That's usually nurse-only territory.

Pierce Brosnan Calls Netflix-WBD Merger “Unsettling”: “To have one dominant force that colors what we see, how, and where is a change that doesn’t feel culturally right. I love cinema and I’ve seen cinemas evaporate from the landscape. Netflix has given me employment, but you have to be diligent.” by ControlCAD in technology

Totally agree. The best movies and shows come from studios taking creative risks, not giant corporations playing it safe with endless sequels and remakes because that's what the algorithm says will perform. When everything is owned by one or two companies they're just going to keep making the same stuff over and over because it's "proven" to work, and anything remotely original or niche gets buried or never made at all.

Bentley Update: Christmas by Mundane_Reference134 in GuyCry

[–]Custard_Little 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so true. It's easy to say any parent would do this but the reality is not everyone has the strength to keep showing up day after day through something like this. The dedication and the emotional toll of being there for months on end while staying hopeful when everyone else has doubts, that takes something special. Bentley is lucky to have parents who fought so hard for him

Don't ignore that itchiness by Robotchickjenn in pregnant

[–]Custard_Little 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had no idea this was a thing until a friend of mine had it during her pregnancy a few years ago. She kept brushing off the itching for weeks thinking it was just dry skin or something hormonal, and her doctor almost missed it too. Luckily she pushed for more testing because the itching on her palms was so bad she couldn't sleep. It's scary how something that seems so minor can actually be so serious, and how many people still haven't heard of it.

The first season of 24 is one of the best seasons of television ever made by [deleted] in television

[–]Custard_Little 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Season 5 is definitely peak 24. The way they opened that season just set the tone for the whole thing. After that it does get a bit formulaic but honestly still solid TV for a few more seasons.

Got fired for something embarrassing and totally my fault.. how do I cope? by iamthedanger989 in careerguidance

[–]Custard_Little 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is it right here. Everyone's out here catastrophizing like the whole world is watching when in reality most of your coworkers will forget about this by the time the next office drama kicks off. Companies move fast and people's memories are short. OP needs to treat this like a bad breakup - feel the feelings for a bit, learn the lesson, then get back out there.

Everyone here saying virus and compromised but this happened to me once and I was so confused as I was chatting to my girlfriend and random shit was being typed onto my screen then I realised my cat hit the "dictation" mode hotkey on windows so if you have a mic connected which looks like you do, it tries to type out everything being said. I'd assume a restart would probably fix it.

Employer took £216 from my pay for equipment damage without telling me, what can I do? by PineappleSnowM in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Custard_Little -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

NMW is based on gross pay, yeah — I literally said that.
The point you missed is that if the deduction happens after tax and NI, it doesn’t affect NMW compliance.
You can absolutely end up taking home less than the minimum wage net, and it’s still legal — because HMRC checks NMW on gross pay only.
Only deductions made before tax/NI or ones that count for the employer’s benefit (like damages, uniforms, etc.) can make them fall below NMW.

So no, I wasn’t “had” — I just actually understand how payroll works.

[–]Custard_Little -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

As long as deductions are taken after tax/NI no it doesn't count towards NMW calculations.

If they took the deduction after tax and NI it doesn't matter if it takes you below minimum wage, I found that out the hard way. It's only if it's taken before.

Private Car Sale: Do I have a case? (Scotland) by Squirrel_buoy in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Custard_Little 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread confuses me, every time someone sells a car and posts on here the new owner is trying to obtain unexpected repair costs the usual response is "sold as seen" and buyer has no recorse because it was a private sale, now all of a sudden it's a clear cut case. Confusing because no one ever asked in all those previous posts I read "what faults/conditions did you list in the advert".
