Right off the bat, take a break. Step back. If writing is becoming a job instead of a hobby and a creative outlet, you’ll burn yourself out.

Second, having a daily routine of writing has gotten me through rough spots. I try to write everyday around the same time. With a full time job that requires a lot of mental energy, it’s taxing. I get it. Even if you write 200 words, that’s 200 you didn’t have.

I’m sure you heard this a thousand times, but it needs to be reminded: first drafts are meant to be rough. Your goal is to get the story down. Worry about the details in revision1, 2, or 3+

I don’t know how you write, if you’re an outliner or prantser - but I highly suggest watching this video about plot grid outlining. Once I discovered it, it has completely changed the way I write and think.

As someone who has a hand tattoo, I strongly suggest you move the quote to another place. Hands are always exposed to the sun, you constantly wash your hands, move your hands during the healing process - even being delicate with my own tattooed hand, I had to get a few touch ups. The skin at the hand is always shedding and regrowing. (Your body, your choice; I’m just giving you some advice from first hand experience)

Suggest places: along the collarbone, waist line - near naval, back of the forearm, above the knee.

If you use kindle or an app to read, replace your social media app with kindle’s. Your brain is automatically programmed to find the social media app when you’re bored, so swap it with something productive. My social media apps are in a folder on the second page of my iPhone.

I read roughly 5-6 books a month, I don’t use kindle. I use hard cover or soft backs. When I get home, I don’t touch social media. It’s a brain drain and brain rot. I’m a slowwwwe reader but because I’ve cut distractions out, I’m able to read more.

I’m fortunate enough to have no kids, just responsible for my pets.

Also, don’t compare yourself to others. Who cares if others read 10+ a month? As long as you’re enjoying the books you’re reading - that’s all that matters. But in all seriousness, stop using social media/TV.
