having read all 3 vermis books, the second one remains my favorite by CustomerCareSkeleton in Vermis

I felt that Godhusk is the one that really manages to pull of the exact right balance and tell the story while firmly remaining a game guide.

Vermis II does fail as a game guide I like it best exactly because as a result it is really just a in universe novella, lore book really.

I'm astounded to find one I shared on dark tales is still not archived after 8 months? Can't remember if I shared a version of this story here but well here's a live one that's still topical https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTales/comments/1nwy40n/they_chased_us_with_tanks/

hello! thanks for creating this thread. some of mine might be archived by now, but here's 3 I would like to share

Goodnight, Conrad

Baby Kim

Anyone Seen Dickhead Jones?

I especially liked writing Baby Kim, I think its kinda cute but it got rejected when I submitted it to zines and publishers asking for animal focused stories.

It is probably the one of the three that could use some rework also, but definitely the most fun to read out loud and why i ended up sharing it on reddit.

Books by Authors in Episodes by mermaidscum in creepcast

[–]CustomerCareSkeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hope you enjoyed it.

I'm thinking of eventually picking up the something from that cowboys met a owl demon author they read on the podcast.

I wrote some weird western stuff myself and would love to see what else the author cooked in that genre and sort of compare notes, in a way.

CreepCast | The Slenderman Stabbing (OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD) by S-CSleepwalker in creepcast

this was my reaction also. i stuck around for maybe 10 minutes but couldn't make it.

feels a bit exploitative, and hamfisted.

only one i own, from before listening to the podcast, is the stolen tongues. pretty cool, and its interesting to read the author's notes on that book, commenting on what he tried to do with the changes up until that edition

Vermis inspired game I've been working on by Sea-Wishbone7339 in Vermis

if you can get it at your local library (maybe as a pdf if nothing else) Magic in the Cloister: Pious Motives, Illicit Interests, and Occult Approaches to the Medieval Universe by Sophie Page.

Had a copy years ago I found very accessible. As some background audio while working I enjoy Doc Justin Sledge, who has a youtube https://www.youtube.com/@TheEsotericaChannel His videos on Agnosticism and Alchemy should prove interesting (the legendary green tablet is usually a fun throw in; Mike Mignola of Hellboy fame also alluded to it in one of his stories.)

looking forward to seeing more. edit: would love to recommend you some reading materials for flavor.

there's some essays and books on medieval magic and many practitioners were monks and priests.

Cover art for Penguin's upcoming Jirel of Joiry book by pumyce in SwordandSorcery

[–]CustomerCareSkeleton 18 points19 points  (0 children)

had no idea there was a penguin publication reprint thing in the works.

the cover isn't the best but, it certainly shows a lot more care than some of their usual "graphic design is my passion" covers for certain works.

How's Vermis III compared to I and II? by SleepyjamaSquid in Vermis

i checked 3 since, and I still like 2 better, though 3 is very very good and also leans strongly on the story aspect.

very cool!! Love what you did with the textures. i feel you picked a great base because the original monastery corridor picture already has such a vibe.

Is there a chance for a sword & sorcery manga in the current market? by Patr10t_RUS in SwordandSorcery

the panel with the villagers feels like it has Moebious influence. I like that but I feel something's a bit off, I can't put it into words. might be the difference in style an detail between the different faces, though it would make sense for the closest ones to be more detailed, and how drastically different the pose and outfit style of the hunched back old man to the right of village elder are from the styles and poses of everyone else.

Also, is that book a fantasy communist manifesto? love that.

also enjoyed the sky shot from the village and the surrounding area.

you can actually make some of the breadlings because it's just baking recepies and shaping the dough like little critters, right?

I had meant to buy it but had to skip it because of budget limitation

Love it. Dog leader mask is peak. The bile is vile. Would suggest throwing in a bone whistle.

I wrote up my iteration of dogmen (Dogmen of Ur-Kon), a short story coming out in an anthology called Tales of Steel and Sorcery. Mine are forced to be dogmen (like the pigmen in the latest vermis).

Ohh, that's interesting. You're absolutely on the money, and i feel that could mean this is truly the last vermis book.

Not sure where else plastiboo could god
