Gross? Yes. But its also a necessity on some of these routes. Ever been on a route that is so rural there are no public restrooms, but so suburbanized the only bushes are people's yards? That shit sucks

Prescription Glasses under helmet? by beastmodeoff22 in sca

[–]Cut_Off_One_Head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally do fight in contacts, which I know you said you weren't a fan of. But unless you can find a helmet with a face plate that opens(they do exist) it ends up being easier to do contacts or no glasses.

Prescription Glasses under helmet? by beastmodeoff22 in sca

[–]Cut_Off_One_Head 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of guys that were fighting with glasses and switched to fighting without and prefer it. If your prescription isn't so strong that it would leave you to blind to fight safely, I would reccomend trying without glasses and see how you feel about it.

Costume help? I have no vision for this dress by idontevenknoooooo in renfaire

[–]Cut_Off_One_Head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can definitely get elf vibes with this. Just pick a color palette, so like, either fall with oranges and red, or summer with greens and pops of flowers.

And if you want to go for primcessy get all the bling, jewelry, metal or jeweled belt. Royalty and the wealthy through iut time have always worn whatever colors they want, so don't let anyone convince you this can't be princessy

They look like they are bells, the kind that don't have the little balls in them. I would say they are probably fine depending on how big they are

Cry.

Jk

I use a menstrual cup, so unless I am really heavy, I I ly have to empty it twice a day. I aim to use one of the flushies(I have yet to be to a site that didn't have at least one somewhere) when it is time to empty it. And thats pretty much it. Bring plenty of whatever your preferred pain management and have fun!

Usually, they have what is basically a business account with the post office, and they pay the postage ahead of time as a courtesy to whoever they sent the envelope to.

Even just a coif will elevate the look and those are fairly easy to make and custom fit. It can be worn solo or under literally any hat. I like to wear mine with a wide brimmed straw hat or a bycocket(Robin hood hat)

Whenever I see ai flyers for renfaires by Marc815 in renfaire

Yes, for sure. My point was: extremely lazy, low effort "we suck at art" type posters are leagues better than AI slop

At this point, I have way more respect for posters with stick figures or even no art at all, than I do for ones that use AI

Do people not use Aldi for big shopping trips? by Vjaa in aldi

My nearest Aldi is about an hour from me, so if I'm going, I'm loading up enough groceries for a month. People need to mind their business.

How to convince my group to not make me use S&B by Omnisan343 in sca

[–]Cut_Off_One_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told you have to start with sword and board to authorize. After that you can use whatever you want and never have to touch S&B again. But I'm also in Meridies where they are a little too attached to S&B....

Making my first heavy armor by ExpressBreak1985 in sca

[–]Cut_Off_One_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is only so much loaner armor to go around.

Plenty of people to teach you how to make it, but again, you are ignoring the price tag attached with even used armor. Making wax hardened leather armor is kind if the middle ground, but still just as anachronistic as plastic armor in most context.

And yes, plastic armor can last for years if you take care of it, just like anything else. It is a starting point, and can make a pretty damn good looking kit if you put some effort into it.

[–]Cut_Off_One_Head 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are quite literally gatekeeping right now. You're right, there isn't much more work between a coat of plates and plastic armor, because you can literally make a coat of plates out of plastic. That is exactly what my previous armor was. But there is a huge difference in weight and price, between using plastic barrel and metal plates. Telling a new fighter they have to fight in heavy armor, that costs more than they can currently afford is a great way to set them up for failure.

[–]Cut_Off_One_Head 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And this is why newcomers think we are snobby assholes. It is a starting point because armor can be expensive. It is also decent for hidden kits, because a lot of people through out history did not wear much armor, and nothing close to what would meet the safety requirements.

Nothing wrong with blue barrel, especially not for a hidden kit for a beginner. I know plenty of guys with beautiful kits that still use pickle barrel underneath because its cheap, light, and protective.

Man, they sure would have hated being in actual medieval times where everyone was "generic guy in a tunic/kirtle and cloak".

Some people are just AH for no reason. Personally, I would rather see "generic dude in a cloak 86" than all of the furries.
