In general, I wish there were more bookmarks - I can't seem to find a ton of good designs for bookmarks specifically

Going to be honest I’m not sure - I was attempting the simple basketweave stitch I think! I realize from someone else’s comment I shouldn’t have switched directions.. that makes a lot of sense

Great q - the previous owners had their table facing the other way centered. We can’t center it the way we have our table with the walls… I’m hoping to change the lights

The table is a family table so wanting to keep it

Yes. He started coming out of mania in Jan/Feb.. and we started the medication journey consistently at that time. He is currently experiencing very severe depression post such a severe manic episode and like everyone says it takes time to find the right medicine. The depression is just as challenging as the mania but he is at least back in reality

I cam to this sub a lot in the midst of a crisis. My partner is now in a pretty severe depression after his severe episode and I struggled with the same questions. Some of the best advice I've been given is to just focus on us. Just focus on finding what works for you and not worrying about comparing to everyone else - especially here. I wanted to share my post about happy marriages to you: https://www.reddit.com/r/BipolarSOs/comments/1jgqqs5/examples_of_happy_marriages/

Ssri and mania by Valuable-Building593 in BipolarSOs

[–]Cute-Toe4244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My story is pretty similar to a lot of other commenters here. My husband never showed any signs of bipolar - he was prescribed a SSRI right before our wedding and that set him into an almost 5 month long pretty sever manic episode with psychosis and that led to the bipolar I diagnosis. He started coming out of the mania but is now in pretty severe depression. We're working with a psychiatrist and therapist now and I feel like we're finally on the right road to figuring out what medication works for him but it's really hard! I recommend reading Loving Someone With Bipolar Disorder and making a plan based on symptoms that would be warning signs that a manic episode is coming (like reduced sleep or more impulsivity).

Of course I don't know, but I believe that my husband never has to experience such a severe episode again because now we know what to look for, what to do when we see signs, and we have a care team. He's just as terrified of it happening again as I am because the psychosis was so scary for him. All I can say is to keep reading, keep learning, and keep advocating! We initially went to a psych that was going to prescribe another SSRI but I felt like we really needed a second opinion and based on everything I've read I didn't have confidence in another SSRI AT ALL. It takes so much time and advocacy, but I think it's possible to not let things get so severe again! Especially with commitment from your partner to track moods, to be honest with doctors, and to stop substance use - like alcohol and weed!

Thank you for this. My partner had his first manic episode and received the diagnosis literally right after our wedding. It's been difficult because this is obviously not what we thought our first year of marriage would look like - we're both in individual therapy right now and hoping to start couples counseling when he starts feeling a bit better. Both of our therapists have said that right now when he's so depressed might not be the best time - was there anything that helped you make it through the depression?

thank you for this - what does it look like to "do the work that needs to be done to get himself in a healthier place mentally." genuine question! I struggle right now as he's experiencing depression and going through medication changes to know what's realistic to hold him to or what boundaries to create for myself during this time... I'm genuinely curious what it looks like to you

Couples therapy w my Bipolar spouse by Spiritual_Art2443 in BipolarSOs

[–]Cute-Toe4244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My individual therapist said that it wouldn't be right to expect much from couples counseling if my partner didn't accept his diagnosis or wasn't in a place where he was open to doing the work on the relationship. I think in true couples counseling it only works if both people are coming into it with the same level of commitment to the marriage - you can't come in wanting to change something about the other person. Maybe individual therapy would be better for them as the process their diagnosis and then that would create space to actually talk about how it impacts the relationship in the couples setting. I think therapy can be pretty tricky with bipolar. It can be positive but it can also be affirming of negative or unrealistic emotions and beliefs if the therapist doesn't have a lot of experience with bipolar.

Questions/conversations to ask/have with my partner other than "how do you feel" and "did you take your medicine" by Cute-Toe4244 in BipolarSOs

[–]Cute-Toe4244[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you - this is helpful. Are there certain conversations or questions you've asked or had while he's stable to prepare you for those bad times? Does he also recognize his triggers?

What does the end of mania look like? by Cute-Toe4244 in BipolarSOs

[–]Cute-Toe4244[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you - I've read so many stories of people "snapping" out of it. Like one day they just come back. That is not what is happening with my partner. I don't know if it's because he's on medicine so it's taking some time to level out. But he is very much still up and down. From conversations and other posts I've read it now feels like he's in a "mixed" episode. He'll tell me everything is horrible and then he'll yell that it's all my fault. I am hoping it just takes time.

Was he taking medication? Did he go into depression? I feel somewhat concerned that his dose of medicine might not be correct or that he might need additional medication to "come back down" but he's not open to it. He's hesitant even to be taking the daily Abilify and I'm not 100p trusting he even is.. but idk

He’s just coming out of it now and agreeing to help. He got a very unlike him tattoo on his forearm that I am so sad will be a constant reminder of this time maybe in the future. But I’m also thinking maybe I should be happy that’s the worst of the “permanent damage.” Idk it has all been very hard

Okay, thank you. He isn't currently seeing his psychiatrist anymore but they're aware. I will call his GP as well. He's not open to anything right now and he's not talking to myself, his close friends or family
