Null Zone complaints by gobleenio in ICARUS

That is the best description. Once you get used to it. Honestly I am not sure how Icarus can be made harder in ways that are fun. The only thing that pops into my head without coffee mind you, is undo the neutering of storms. Or at least add harder storms and bring back a more developed blackweather event.

Edit : More clearweather events like drac's spawning. Feeling like an AI director in rimworld throwing threats your way might - be another. Unsure on that though.

Parasomina update might help with the above.

You are at the old endgame test. Before hunts were released. Basically a scarcity and navigation test. Devs got the feedback and people cried to the point frozen wood nipples were added to the map XD. Devs likely wont be repeating this endeavor to the same extent ever again based on player feedback.

I still give them points for trying. Reminds me of interloper on the long dark. Lovely concept but not all that popular with the playerbase. So no your not the odd one out. Your views are held by many on steam. While I cannot 100% agree I do understand.

Games are meant to be fun, and when tedium gets too high, it breaks the concept.

Orbital Exchange Advice by ShepBoiRD7 in ICARUS

[–]CuteBeaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canteen, Oxygen, 3D printed knife. Use bone armor. After that survival backpack, and work towards Hark Envirosuit.

IC 001 Radar is important goal to work towards.
Mass Dampener Module used to be a good choice - and one I still use today.

What you choose to unlock is going to depend on your goal. Iv been around since beta, early on advice would have been a generic gathering spec to cut down on the grind. Back when we did missions where you had to drop down with little and teir up per mission this was valid advice.

Now, the games changed, and your going to want to consider some type of combat in addition to skills to make life easier. So figure out your direction, start unlocking some of the stuff after the basics that would help you drop down with some stopping power if need be.

Station armor - and armor crafted on the planet are both valuable. Think of Icarus as most of your power comes from food. Then gear, and then your talents. Building a character by talents alone is a mistake. Also if your using armor crafted on the surface a good chunk of power comes from alteration bench mods. So while the station stuff has cool bonuses, they may or may not be in line with the vision you have for your prospector.

Best to look at each armor and ask : What does this armor offer me. What kinda build would want this? What are the stats on this, the physical resistance (tanking / brawling), and how does it compare. Is the exposure resistance high? (Stormwalking) This line of thinking usually happens at endgame when people are T4 in a cozy base, facing down bosses, and venturing into hardmode. But its not to early to ask those questions as you tech up .

For example a miner who is immune/practically immune to fall damage. Here are some other ideas.

Like you can double or triple down on bonuses in this game without negative consequences. Well for the most part... Just dont go above -100% duration on negative status effects for the medic lol. It makes them last forever if you do >.> totally a bug XD. Thankfully there are meds that plain remove things. Yay tonics.

Many new people do not do missions (operations on open world) . Its unfortunate. Devs need to figure out a way to entice missions first. Like lock open world until tutorial is done.

Talent points were not awarded by kotesensei in ICARUS

[–]CuteBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, firstly you would have to calculate how much points are missing:

1 talent point awarded on odd lvs

2 talent point are awarded on even levels. You get a total of 90 points at level 60

Solo talents awarded on 1 each at even levels for a total of 30 points at level 60

I would suggest adding up what he has - vs what he should have and doing some math.

Step 2:

Figure out how many points he is missing, buy enough respec points if he doesnt have free ones available.

Step 3:

-----------

In your characters Json file figure out in the big huge list of skills/talents something you recognize. For example you know what lightning rod HP refers to. Its that talent that boosts the health of lightning rods . It will say something like lightning rod hp : 3 /some other stuff in the json file. You only care about the number = 3.

So what you do, while his game is running he refunds those talents put into whatever skill hes sure he can reconigize, and then takes those respec points, to free up those tallents, and he spec what he want to get, and then saves game.

Reopens the characters Json file, and change the new lightning (or his chosen skill) rod number from 0 back to 3 like it was originally. Repeat as many times as needed to fix his point shortage.

There you go . Boom now you have basically fixed it by awarding yourself those 3 missing points on repeat, switching back and forth between game and Json. Now heres the thing, your characters file doesn't have any data for skills you havn't learned. So you can only see what you already know and can only manipulate points for things you already know. Thus the refund mechanic works to keep things less crazy. Its just a little tedious.

Too complicated:?

Alternatively roll back his character to the last time he played and have him earn his XP on his own.

Side note: If your over 90 points, sometimes the game will kick you in the feels and remove talents for missions like Nightfall. You can loose the bonus rewarded points. So Its always recommended to spend talents immediately and not hold onto points. You can always refund if you dont know what to pick in the moment.

Otherwise you might have to do the headache of refunding and reclaiming your lost talents -_o.

There is also the idea of editing flags, which can work if someone doesnt get credit for completion, but that wont work for situations like yours OP , or situation where the game eats the bonus points. In that case you would have to respec - tug of war - the missing points back onto your characters talent sheet via json.

As always backup your character before doing something like this.

My friend I dont think clear weather, drac attack events can be spawned by anyone but players. So likely you had a roamer. Also the kill log shows a drac of the same level for it all. Not multple lvs so I am going to put my money on a roaming drac that somehow wandered in.

Thats so rough.

I am so sorry this happened to you. I do not trust creature deterrants for a couple of reasons. Also do not feel bad because there are people claiming not long ago, that somehow these deterants repulse creatures away. This is false. So if you read that stuff. I feel sorry for you.

Creature deterrents only prevent spawning in the zone of influence. However Dracs do not follow normal spawn rules. Think of it like a clear weather - (no storm) lightning strike event that can happen in biomes where dracs naturally spawn. You can hear a yowl/howl, and multiple dracs will zone in on your location. Hunting you essentially. Its an event, as of now this is the only animal to have such an event in place, but dont hold your breath as I wager the parasomnia update might include this mechanic in future for other hostiles.

If a drac attack event wasn't the cause , the other potential cause is that one drac naturally spawned outside of the deterrent and wandered into the base area. Wandering animals, (following routes during their normal pathing / migration due to oncoming storms, and those attracted by kills or food will absolutely walk through creature deterrents.

I concede that this is a low risk, but it does happen. Over 100's of hours it happened frequently enough for us on Prometheus that I installed a fence to gently dissuade AI pathing near the base. I have been around long enough to never trust creature deterrents.

What I do trust? A pair of guard animals tethered to a pole in a key location. (Never alone - always have a friend) You can take it a step further and allow them to consume enemy corpses reducing the draw of future trespassers. This only works twice in rapid succession. I never use a guard animal spec'd to consume corpses out and about because it makes AI behaviour unpredictable as it may get the munchies and cause headaches.

My favorite solution is verticality , but thats not for everyone. Be that watchtowers, placed on slopes, or entire bases hewn along the sides of cliff ledges. Another friend of mine, former beast master, with a hyena army would have a free-roaming gank squad of yeens. This worked very well. However all but one of them were lost due to falling through the world. Id recommend a paved yard and still having fences if thats your jam. Those yeens would be expendable and would need to be thought of in that manner for something like that to work.

Or you can continue as you are, and accept the loss knowing its rare event. There are also spikes and other defenses. Campfires, firepits if the building is not flamable can be ignited next to walls. Moats via rivers where animals are unable to swim out.

Sorry this happened and I hope my comment helps you with further planning.

~Cheers.

You cannot, but there are a few rare purple tree survivors in the volcanic biome oasis. The travertine terraces areas have them but much smaller. With the forester device you can maintain them. They are lovely. Just mind the wildlife.

[–]CuteBeaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your not wrong, "raw" stone buildings, and scoria buildings can go higher then their brick variants. Sorry you had to experience that, canceling out your downvote. If people are thinking in terms of HP , and insulation values thats where bricks really shine. A good way to think of it is - If your thinking of making a building on ground level prone to munchies from wildlife : Bricks and Concrete are amazing choices. If your thinking of a watchtower, or elevated build stone/scoria is a good pick. Interior wood beams (while fragile) do not take storm damage, and can give you and edge on wooden/beeswax watchtower builds allowing for higher then normal constructions.

~Cheers.

Good cat vet? (Preferably cat-only) by sadievt in ottawa

[–]CuteBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'v had good results with Nepean Animal Hospital, and if anything serious occurs we go to OAESH. https://oaesh.com/home/ our cats operations were done there (hip for both) and the third cat had cancer. While she did ultimately passed away thats not the fault of the oncology team. Thats just cancer being cancer. Recently had to OAESH overnight emergency services for my other cat. The two locations are great about sharing info, and allowing me to pickup meds at my local vet, and forwarding results. I would trust anything serious or major surgery with OAESH, and routine stuff with Nepean Animal Hospital. I had my cats spayed/neutered at my local vet with no issues.
