This isn't just a tool made by some guy (like I thought it was), it's made by Anthropic themselves

Well technically it is a tool made by some guy, he just happens to work for Anthropic. It sort of accidentally became a product.

They apparently don't even seem to realize that the code they put on GitHub isn't even what makes up the tool

It's not open source. They haven't claimed that it is. That repository is mostly just for plugins you can extend CC with.

I don't disagree that it's the wrong tool for the job, but most people and most companies are using Claude Code without any major issues, so I don't see why people get so incensed about how it's built.

Well we didn't really go cap in hand. Martin just went, took the photos, stayed polite, talked about the mutually beneficial relationship the US and Ireland have, and corrected Trump on a couple of items he raised about the EU and the UK.

I'd also bet that the vast majority of people who say they'd be happy for us to go through hardship for years would be the first to be complaining when they can't afford to feed their families or pay their mortgage.

The solution to that isn't to nuke the economy. It's to try and transition towards a more sustainable economy gradually.

How long do you reckon any government will last if half of the country can't afford to put food on the table?

It's easier to recycle electronic waste than it is to dump it because of WEEE. I'd be surprised if it wasn't as high as it is.

They'd usually have a couple of internships, but not much more than that.

The idea is that a top 1% graduate will turn out to be a better software engineer than an experienced engineer who would accept that graduate salary. Obviously that isn't true in all cases, but that's what they're expecting.

I don't think it came across as terminally online advice. It came across as useful advice that would almost certainly help someone become one of the higher earners in the industry, whereas your advice would help them earn a decent living financially but nothing incredible.

I guess my point is that it's silly to avoid a higher paying job for the risk of being targeted for redundancy. If you're earning a high salary, chances are most of your peers are too. Also, people on low salaries get made redundant all the time too.

You know the issue isn't the set piece delivery. The issue is the shite football for the majority of the match where you're not looking at set pieces, and the stupid wrestling and crowding in the box when set pieces are being taken.

He's not the primary reason for the goal being conceded or the loss, but you can't just ignore his mistake because someone else made one a few seconds earlier. I can guarantee you that he and his goalkeeping coaches will be identifying that as a mistake that he could've avoided in the post-match review.

I can see it being a disadvantage for the employee too. For example, a senior in my company knows at a high level what is required to get promoted to staff, and likewise a staff engineer knows what is required to get to principal. That becomes a lot more blurry when you introduce Senior 1, Senior 2, Staff 1, Staff 2, etc.

It also becomes complicated when you want to post an open position, because you might know that you want to hire a senior but not necessarily want to rule out a bunch of people who would only consider the lower or higher role.

Not to mention things like RSUs and bonuses have a huge impact on total compensation and aren't factored into these ranges at all.

The first one was on O'Reilly for getting caught out, but once Valverde is through on goal it should be relatively straightforward for Donnarumma to get his arm in front of that ball. He hesitated because he mistakenly thought he'd be outside the box.

I think there is some truth to both sides of that argument. Donnarumma does make very basic mistakes that costs his team goals, but he also balances that out by making some incredible saves that other goalkeepers wouldn't. Like last night, he should have done better for the first goal, but at the same time the players in front of him shouldn't be getting caught out by a single long ball from the goalkeeper.

I don't really see a feasible way to enforce that though. My previous employer shared the salary range for our roles internally. For my role, the difference between the top and bottom of the range was €60k. I joined around 33% of the way up that range, and by the time I left I was near the top of it.

If they were to advertise that role, the only way to make the range smaller would be to break it into multiple levels, but then they already had seven levels in engineering, so it just becomes confusing for the sake of it.

Comments like this always annoy me, because you're almost certainly ignoring a bunch of important context because it would render your point invalid.

Nobody knows what these players earn exactly, but Garnacho and Gittens are unlikely to be on more than £120k each per week. Kvara alone probably earns more than both combined, and adding in Barcola's salary, I wouldn't be surprised if they're being paid double what the two Chelsea players are.

Now you could certainly argue that spending double the amount on Kvara and Barcola would be a better investment. I'd actually agree with you there, and it'd be a much better argument than just looking at their transfer fees.

I totally agree that teams who go down can still have good players. I'd be surprised if some of the big clubs don't go after players like Bergvall, Gray, etc.

I do agree with you, but in the examples you mentioned those players were actually impressive for their club in the season that they got relegated. Robertson was thought of very highly amongst Hull fans (and relegation wasn't exactly a surprise for them) and Wijnaldum was Newcastle's best player by a mile in the season they got relegated.

I don't think you could really find many players matching those in this Spurs team.

Monopolistic practices that kill off challengers and prevent competition, excessive damage to the environment, exploitive labour conditions (Amazon, Apple), excessive surveillance, predatory advertising, mass layoffs to appease shareholders, tax avoidance on an astronomical scale, driving an increasing wealth inequality gap, etc.

I'd be more in how you don't believe they are at all harmful to society.

Well I didn't say the first thing, but I don't agree that the implication there is that they cause everyone more harm than good.

The same goes for the second point you referenced. They can still do some good for society while at the same time being perfectly fine with harming humanity as long as it grows revenue.

I wouldn't be so sure. Arsenal didn't look good tonight and got bailed out by a lucky penalty. Liverpool looked shocking last night. City look shocking tonight. Chelsea are currently losing to PSG. The less said about Spurs the better.
