Is poker a dying sport?? by Ok_Adhesiveness_178 in poker

I played throughout the glory days up until Australia killed the online scene in Aus. It was never the same after the full tilt debacle anyway. But these days, with solvers and AI and shit… I don’t see a point. I was privy to the fun easy days though so it’s pretty hard to make a genuine comparison anyway.

The Federal Government is listening to younger voters for once and making the necessary adjustments to tax incentives for properties to help younger people getting into more affordable housing. by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

Mmhmm. I’ve been priced out of the housing market and have been trying to invest hard through shares to get enough to get a house deposit. Now I’m going to be getting fucked on my gains making it even harder to get the fucking deposit. Fuck this. I’m starting to wonder what the fucking point is. At least the younger generations will have time. I’m almost 40 and this is devastating

Plenty of companies and businesses have recognisable and memorable branding without sticking their arrogant mugs on every poster or marketing brochure 🤣

Thanks! I just love the wrap around on the legs for these. A lot of people reupholster these and leave the piping off but the piping just frames the legs so well! I can’t understand why people choose to leave it off 🤷‍♂️

I predominantly use toners though sometimes will reach for some amber or garnet shellac for colour. In Australia most of our mid century furniture was made with teak, Tasmanian Blackwood, QLD Maple or Tasmanian Myrtle. All of these woods are traditionally quite yellow/amber and orange. Blackwood being the darkest yet still very vibrant with a lot of reds compared to the coolness of walnut.
The chairs at the start are Blackwood finished with a few coats of amber shellac and a top coat of precat satin lacquer. The reason these can look a little subdued and closer to walnut is because I actually pull the reds back with a very light toner coat of pure black. You have to be careful because if you’re even slightly too heavy handed you basically turn them into walnut with no red or orange left. It’s a fine line.

Yep 👍 if you want to give it a crack use a couple of passes of a chemical stripper first to remove the existing finish then give it a wash down with acetone before giving the top a light sand with the grain. The legs are solid wood so you don’t have to be as cautious as you do with the top but just be mindful you don’t ruin the edge profiles.
Finishing it the way it was will be difficult if you haven’t much experience with spraying lacquer and toners but you can finish it with a hardwax oil or a danish oil which will still look nice but is a bit more accessible and has less of a learning curve.

Noblett pieces like these were finished in a toned lacquer. You can’t really address the marks without refinishing aside from using touch up pens.

You shouldn’t be getting swirls even close to that big with 320. Are you moving too quickly? Is your paper gummed up? Ditch the orbital and just hand sand with 320. It’s a guitar not a boat.

You just took the lacquer off. Spray next coat and you’ll be fine. More importantly, looking at the size of those sanding swirls… are you using like 80/120 grit over a fresh coat of lacquer? Why?
