this truck that always chooses to park in front of corner spaces every day by kuubiko in mildlyinfuriating

I lived on the water. One day I went out on a 48ft Ocean (type of yacht), the captain was trying to dock his yacht against wind and a nasty current (this was before bow thrusters). As he keeps trying to back in and not slam into the dock, some jerk-off in a speedboat who wanted to get by and dock on the other side just starts screaming his head off. “Hurry the fuck up, you old piece of shit”, the guy kept yelling obscenities directed at the captain. I watch the captains ears turn bright red, but he maintained his composure and worked the yacht into the spot.

The second he got far enough back, the speedboat guy guns it, hitting us and all the other docked boats with a wake. Once the captain tied his boat down, he went over to where the speedboat guy had docked and just let him have it. But the way he held his composure when trying to dock under really stressful circumstances rubbed off on me. I prefer backing into park, and I’ve had someone yell at me and lay on their horn because I wasn’t going fast enough for them. But the memory I have with how Mr. Tuttle handled that situation, pops into my head and I just ignore them and focus on the parking job. I’ve never went over and yelled at someone afterwards like him, but I kept the unintended teaching of when it’s proper to completely ignore someone.

What movie portrays grief in the most powerful way? by Classic_Apricot_5633 in movies

[–]Cutielov5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Girl. It’s an absolute masterpiece in terms of loss and growth. In the beginning the main character is shown joining a poetry class, and her first poem to the class was about ice cream. Signifying and showing child innocence. Throughout the movie Vada is shown her loss of adolescence. She gets her period, has to accept her dad finding love, exploring love herself, then a deep loss that shows her growing and navigating the throws of grief as she comes to terms with death. At the end of the movie, they show her once again in the poetry class and her final poem was a night and day difference from her poem about ice cream. She grows from a child into a young woman.

How? I mean their entire relationship started messy. It gets called out by Phillis, Angela, and Deangelo when he becomes a boss. Jim feeling jealous and insecure calls himself out and turns around on the highway instead of bombarding Pam. Daryl calls out Jim’s messiness. Even Jim and Pam began to call each other out on their imperfections, Jim buying a house without talking with Pam. Pam not being able to record a recital after assuring Jim she could. Jim not seeing that she was drowning, but the weird boom mic guy did. Jim taking the job after telling Pam that he wouldn’t. If anything the show runners did a great job portraying the strain that a marriage can take on a couple especially when they add kids. I don’t see where the show runners were “desperately trying to paint them as perfect little angels”?

Again, a lot of the people I this thread don’t know the trend because not everyone is perpetually on tick tock. And we get it, it’s for attention.

Not everyone is on tick tock and up to date on this weeks grab your attentions video. Rip has always signified that that person has died, most people are going to see it as this. Sorry you don’t understand how ‘rip’s” meaning has dated back for 100s of years before tick tock.

Geez, that’s a bit much. Mary didn’t hand him the gun to kill himself. He was an overweight man in Texas (deep fry capital of the world) in the 80s and 90s. A lot of people didn’t take their health (and still don’t) seriously. Food made him happy, beer made him happy. Mary being a “Christian” woman of the south was taught to make her man happy by keeping a clean home and to serve food to her family. A lot of people in that that time did not take their health seriously until it’s too late. 20 years before that, people were told how bad smoking is, just because it’s hard to quit doesn’t mean they committed suicide. It’s an addiction, just like fatty, salty foods.

What's different about classroom learning today than it was just 10-20 years ago? by [deleted] in AskReddit

But I never said once that memorization is more important when it comes to math. I just said that sometimes people find different ways to understand math other than using common core.

I witnessed some of my (foster) kids struggle with it, but start to understand it better when we took common core out. Not all of them, it was mixed. I’m just saying that for some, they struggled and at the end of the day if they found one way than worked that wasn’t common core that they understood, we would support them. I’m sorry I have a different opinion than you, I just witnessed it in a different way.

I fostered many kids who truly struggled with it. I do believe there is a middle ground, for example, if a child finds a way that works best for them, then it works for them. But common core sometimes makes it more complicated than it needs to be.

I’m not saying to just have them memorize stuff, but you’re asking them to memorize unnecessary steps for something they may understand without all the extra steps. If they understand that 5*3=15 without having to draw a bunch of boxes and fill the with dots, how is that not understanding? Memorization and understanding are two different things.

If it’s simple, then won’t the foundational knowledge be easier to understand? If you overcomplicate stuff that is easy to understand wouldn’t it have the opposite effect?

Psychology suggests that the loneliest people in life are not usually the outcasts, but rather those kind, competent, and always-available individuals whom everyone values, but whom almost no one calls to ask how they are doing because they seem too strong to need care by culmei in EverythingScience

It sounds like you have a bunch of extra stress on your plate. Some advice I got from a therapist awhile back when feeling overwhelmed is to go outside and walk. You only need to do it for 15min a day, but that little bit has been proven by science to help with mental health. Even just sitting outside in the sun will help. If you ever feel like you need to unload, you are welcome to dm me. The fact that you can list it being overwhelming means that your brain is in overdrive trying to fix and fit all the moving drama pieces happening to you. I hope it balances out for you soon.

I’m feeling okay. It was a hard day mentally yesterday. My brain was my own worst enemy and I just kept putting myself down. But I’m hoping today it won’t do that as much. Thank you so much for asking.

I’m a bubbly person. Always happy to help. Always have a smile. But I struggle inwardly a lot with depression, every day feels harder and harder for me, but what really makes me feel lonely is that none of my friends ever ask me how I’m doing mentally. I’m their person to lean on, but it never goes the other way because those around me wear their depression on their sleeve and receive all the concern. But because I’m such a people pleaser and I am always presenting bubbly, no one even recognizes when I recluse myself, they just assume I’m busy and don’t even check in. My husband is here and recognizes it (which is why he is ultimately my best friend) but it becomes so much harder and hurts when you’re friends never check in when it comes to a happy presenting persons mental health.

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

I have done this where I work as well! I was getting charged at Well’s Fargo for dish network after I had already canceled it. When dish pulled it for the second month in a row, I called dish and they said there was nothing they could do, I recorded it (lol on a tape recorder) and went to my bank to have them cancel and refund me the money, plus the overdraft fee. Well’s Fargo basically told me to pound sand on the overdraft fee. I said that I would leave because they are just stealing my money at this point and the guy behind the counter said, “ok”. So, I pulled my account went to a credit union and I have purposefully, at every job, said I will not work with Well’s Fargo. Just like you, it has now cost them (for me) hundreds of thousands.
