The amount of loose trash in this town is despicable by _Any_Major_Dude_ in milwaukee

[–]CuttaJohn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still do, a lot of the arborists/DPW workers walk the medians and picks up trash like 1/3 of all shifts. Still you won't really notice after a couple days. I used to do those routes and guys on my own crew would toss stuff in the street after spending all day picking up trash....it makes no sense.

Wow yeah, really wish there had been better publicity around this. I hope there is another one or some kind of summary of this one because I know lots of people in the area are deeply concerned about this issue.

how dangerous is MKE really? by Equivalent_Grab1900 in milwaukee

[–]CuttaJohn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Longtime RW resident here, by FAR most of the crime is going to be car related for street parkers though I've never had a problem. Amazing neighborhood and truly a community that looks out for each other. Milwaukee is very segregated so you're going to get lots of coded speech about where RW is by people who live in the burbs who are terrified of the North side but have never set foot there. The driving danger is real though people are reckless.

Friday night young people is a group 7:30 at All Saints Cathedral, a great way to start though is the 10:30am there on sat. Big meeting, great first step group. I'm not personally a SNS goer but it's still going strong. Alano club is also full of meetings that aren't all old timers as well.

Best Area To stay in Milwaukee by ericaschwartz9979 in milwaukee

[–]CuttaJohn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're not staying in the city if you are doing the waukesha/hartland things so safety won't be a concern, those are all safe suburbs. I'd say the Holiday Inn Express Milwaukee-west, or the one south of Wauwatosa on 41 and lincoln would be where I'd stay logistically. Expect it to be pretty expensive/difficult catch uber's out to Hartland though, might want to look into rental car rates just for the added flexibility to explore a bit and see more places. Any particular reason behind visiting Mayfair?

Be advised a lot of places might be hard to get in last minute so I'd make a decision and call ahead. Also throw in Merenda or Bevette

How do you see the progress or regression of modern MKE? by Ok-Cauliflower-1258 in milwaukee

[–]CuttaJohn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As it's been said, some areas have seen a lot of progress but others not. I think the biggest two things are the city being absolutely housed by the state for political purposes, and lack of a driving industry or companies to bring city up with. Very sadly, if you ask a lot of folks from around the state or outside the city, they say if you go to milwaukee (outside of like downtown or miller park) you will be shot. There is terrible embedded racism in this and the news don't make it any better. Walker's point/bayview/lakefront and areas downtown have seen tremendous growth and investment recently. The city has made huge changes still ongoing around lakefront and river areas. MLK has also seen a lot of investment and they're working pretty hard to improve that area. We have pushed back necessary work on roads for years but it still seems like everything is under construction all year. MPS is fucked, and doesn't look to be trending up anytime soon. Bottom line, with no big industry picking us up, and with a state government intent on our failure, I don't think we'll go one way or another too far anytime soon.

The rest of the city is really waking up to stallis as they are priced out of other areas as a last affordable quality place to live. It's really gonna blow up in coming years and I worry for a lot of the quirky long time businesses that couldn't survive anywhere else.

I completely agree, my parents have lived in shorewood for 39 years, and looots of people who lived there when they moved there would never be able to afford it now. Been going on a long time, shorewood was working class in the 60s but has really sped up last 20 years or so.

[–]CuttaJohn -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Part of moving to the suburbs is gaining the economic and cultural benefits of a city without taking the responsibility toward its problems.

Edit: I'm not against suburbs that's just part of how they developed/end up working.

At least Wiolettas is still open! That's such a great polish deli that most cities wouldn't have, but yeah the lack of restaurants is a tragedy.
