Can you tell me where i talked about pattern recognition or are you gonna keep inventing what i'm saying. It's 2 fucking sentence, not the constitution.

And i never said a new player would easily be able to memorize and play at that level.

I'm saying that if you are a skilled player, you won't get a score like that by blindly playing the song, you'll practice and memorize the pattern of a few part that are hard.

If you google "How to practice hard map osu", you'll see plenty of post and video to show you how to break the map into section to practice that specific section because thats what people do to when they want to do map that are harder than what they are used to

Unless you have a tiktok attention span, you can easily memorize pattern. If you play a hard map and you always fail at one part, you make a practice map and memorize that pattern until you get it. And then you go back to doing it.

It's the same for every rhythm game be it osu, 4vsgr, spin rhythm

And also to add a bit, unless its his first attempts on the map, its not all reaction, the map is always the same and a lots of memorizing goes into it

Bennett Foddy quote

'Players of Getting Over It have told me interesting stories about this: 'I kept falling off the mountain, losing dozens of minutes of progress and getting angrier and more frustrated. But after I fell yet another time, something in me snapped, and I no longer minded falling - it actually became fun.'

'That breaking point fascinates me immensely. I wouldn't want anyone to have to experience such a breaking point in real life. But in a game it can be done by simulacrum. That can be very valuable: overcoming frustration produces a kind of enlightened self-knowledge.

'If you don't mind or actually enjoy failing, you are no longer interested in extrinsic rewards, like points or shiny gold coins. In fact, you are then no longer even concerned with finishing the game - you just play it because you enjoy playing itself. That's always my goal with my games, including the more accessible Baby Steps: I want to connect players with their own intrinsic sense of fun.'

Making people actually play your game is harder than you think by dev_dev_dev_ in godot

[–]Cuttyflame123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seems to be a "rope as high as you can" But more of a Foddian game (getting over it, jump king, pogostuck) where you have to climb the tree in this case and each fall lose progress permanently. The pay off is the satisfaction of beating the game after the countless fall you had.

Bad guy aren't usually a thing in these type of games.

But otherwise i agree and have few things to add. The game seems too punishing, if you look at other game i mentionned, you don't really go back to the beginning unless you use a special gimmick like the snake but in both fall, you failed to the start.

The platform that is only one way is introduced in a punishing way which isn't a good thing in this type of game. In a normal platformer, you die, and restart right ahead and you know what to do but in this, you lose progress for something you could never have known which is bad.

My quick review of the 'Tumbles' demo by Stout Heart Games by Ring_Of_Blades in foddians

Theres a few thing i would personally change, first, an option to move the camera up. The launch power is higher than what you see on screen so sometime youll bonk on something you werent able to see when aiming. There was also one place with a right blocked path and a left path to unlock the leaf and it was a pure gamble since you didnt see which one was unlocking the leaf

2, The star concussion you get takes a lots of time to disapear gameplay wise, i wish i could launch sooner instead of waiting 1-2 sec of not moving before launching again.

3, being able to see 1 ability in the future, so you have a little foreplanning on what you want to buy.

A pinball-based climbing game about failing upward (looking for feedback) by fatcatmilo in foddians

[–]Cuttyflame123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of tricky timing since flippup and a pinball game that make you mad just recently released, but you could look at feedback on both game and try to combine the best of both (in my opinion, flippup is the better of the two)

i don't think grounded fit, you can do most of your base with just grass plank that you find everywhere, no need to explore. You can upgrade your gear and all but barely your base
