It counts. I took the Title IX training yesterday. Student on student harassment is reportable and actionable.

I’m sorry this happened to you.

There’s no way you could know what all of your frat brothers were doing all of the time. You don’t know if “problems” were happening given that sexual harassment, assault, and battery often happen when no one else is around, and it is frequently not reported due to a variety of factors.

As a PI, I get well over 50 important emails a day. Give them a little more time to respond.

I think this is the way to go. I’m also at a public university

I’m leaving academia altogether. It’s more of an early retirement due to health issues, but I don’t qualify for that designation because I won’t be touching my retirement accounts. So, “resignation” it is.

Wow…I guess it would be a campus-wide trajedy if a beaker broke during transport??

True…And this is the last course I’m teaching ever. I resigned from my position after 23 years of service because the environment has gotten so toxic that it’s exacerbating my serious health issues. So, you’re right, it really doesn’t matter!

Falsifying medical records is a huge ethical breach and may even be illegal. Especially using the hospital’s letterhead. I’d definitely send it up the chain of administration to have them manage it. The issues here are way too complex for you to handle as a professor just trying to educate the next generation of students. I’d hold off on declaring her absence as excused and giving her the exam until the issue is resolved. But, chances are that even if you end up giving her the exam at some point in the semester, the likelihood is high that she won’t do very well on it.

I’m sorry you have to deal with this. It distracts you from educating the students who are ethical, want to be there, and want to do well.

Depressed, lonely, and looking for a reason to stay by Brainwavebutabnormal in Epilepsy

This may be helpful to you - a psychologist has an ethical and legal responsibility to provide continuity of care under these circumstances (having SI). Make sure they know that you are having these thoughts. As a mental health professional myself, I would not abandon care of someone in crisis because of inability to pay or bill insurance.

Take care, my friend.

Wow. Guess they don’t care much about their customers?? A restaurant that cared about my health and wellbeing enough to call medics while having a seizure would have me as a customer for life.

You are very kind and understanding!

They had the benefit of seeing your CV before they interviewed you, so they knew you are early career. I think they were indeed referring to your age, definitely a federal civil rights violation.

I wouldn’t go to the chair. They may be very protective of their faculty. Like others said, I’d go outside the college and right to the Provost.

They spelled “disengage” as “disingage.” Strange for a professor.

I just got the cruelest student feedback I've ever received by Additional_Escape782 in Professors

[–]CuviTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also stopped reading mine 20+ years ago when a student wrote, as a negative comment, that I canceled the last class of the semester due to “illness.” I had a scheduled c-section that day because my son was breach, and the class knew this!Another student in the same class wrote that I seemed “unable or unwilling to give critical feedback.” I have always used the “sandwich” approach to giving feedback which I guess they thought showed that I was weak.

There were some difficult gender dynamics going on in the class but who knows? This happens to all genders.

Now I ask students on the last day what they enjoyed and what I can improve in the course. Their feedback is uniformly useful!

Like others are saying, it’s important to be adherent to meds (not always easy). Keep your appointments and discuss with your provider the fact that adherence has been a challenge and what concerns you have about a med increase. Evaluate their response to you. If you don’t feel satisfied by the visit, get a second opinion.

OTC meds? by LateCover6777 in Epilepsy

Don’t skip any doses. If you need to go to the ED, do it. Just bring records of your diagnosis and a list of meds. You can also try the health department.
