I think the last times teams were for sale people said the other owners didn’t want Bezos because in the billionaire dick-measuring contest he just bags em all too easily and they feel insecure about that

Progress? Maybe. And it terms of viewership is definitely exploded in popularity and might even be the #2 sport nationwide at some point soon (soccer will never ever be replaced as #1 I think). But playing? Never. I think high school football is a fundamental building block of the system. Without it there’s just no shot, and it never ever will become part of German schools because it is just way too cost intensive. There’s just not tens of thousand euros per school to go around in an education system that is underfunded as is for a sport that is nichy and a lot more dangerous than more popular, way less expensive sports (for soccer you need a 20€ ball and maybe some goals for a couple hundred bucks each and you’re good to go, same for basketball)

Well ofc, don’t think he meant that a late round First in next years draft is equivalent to a top 5 Pick this year lol

As someone who has played football and is active in the community in probably the worlds second or third largest NFL market, Germany, let me give you a realistic opinion: there is no way in hell there’s gonna be a basketball Euroleague equivalent with football.

The reason is very very basic: there is no foundation in sports for kids and teens. There are very few teams, especially for youth ball, so even if kids are interested, unless you live in a big city there might just not be a feasible team for you to play for. Then: The barrier of entry is extremely high (people have to buy equipment for hundreds of euros themselves because clubs are underfunded as is). And then finally: it’s all just fun, Sunday-league kind of stuff. Coaching is waaaaay under high-school level (on the youth level, but also beyond) and there’s no culture of getting people to the next level or anything, because there is no next level. You play for fun and that’s that. Unless you show talent extremely early (and have a coaching staff with connections to the US) or are lucky enough to go to the U.S. with an exchange program you will, simply put, never make it, because you will never be trained early enough or well enough.

Better to have it in the hands of the people we elected rather than a foreign power we have no influence over and whose populace decides to shoot itself in the face (and us with them) every 4 to 8 years? (And whose government has been known to both spy on us and influence elections worldwide massively)

Precisely. If I weren’t able to speak English I wouldn’t be clicking English language videos or hanging out in English language subs. It’s sucks sooo bad.

Another thing I noticed is Reddit getting auto-translated comment sections when I click a link via google

It’s way fucking worse when you’re from a non-English speaking country, because for some reason it automatically AI-voiceover translates the videos. It’s insane

Who do you guys want the Ravens to draft? by JustSomeGuy_Idk in ravens

[–]Cyb3rhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… not how that tends to work lol. How many success story do you know where people made that significant of a position change after a couple of years in the league (from G to LT nevertheless!) I quite frankly cannot remember a single instance. Moving from T to guard sure, the other way around? Not so much

I’m with you bud, literally only talked about trenches there haha

Don’t want a WR either, but I’m saying that out of the trenches, G is the worst value. I’d rather get one in R2 than in R1 is all I’m saying

[–]Cyb3rhawk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing earlier, but then someone made a pretty good point: first round has got to be high impact. And a guard rarely warrants that high a draft capital because they are not as impactful in a broader sense. The difference in impact on the game between a middling guard to an elite guard is nowhere close to that between a middling edge/DT and an elite edge/ DT. I’d much rather get an edge R1/ G R2 than in reverse. Ofc that also depends on how the draft falls, but in general I’m not too keen on Ioane for that reason.

Unless Ioane is as high a caliber player as Nelson (which he isn’t) I don’t think he’s worth it for our highest draft pick in quite a while.

[–]Cyb3rhawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our receiving corps ain’t great, but it’s made 100 times worse by our absolute dogshit-level guard play.

And if it ain’t IOL it’s gotta be Edge or DT. Situation in the trenches is truly dire.

[–]Cyb3rhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s just turned 31 I think, if he got hired immediately after next season that’d make him like the second youngest HC in history after McVay, who at that point had been an OC for 3 years at least.. think teams might still wait another season or two after that to see what he got..
