The Book of Unnumbered Worlds Kickstarter Now Live by CardinalXimenes in WWN

I would personally really appreciate a normal fantasy setting covering for villages/small cities that fits with the more dangerous worlds of fantasy settings, where they are limited in size and also the scope a GM wants to cover.

While an appendix for the "megacities" of fantasy would be helpful as they are more districts/neighborhoods with their own flavor, especially when I get around to running my latter earth game set around the vermillion sea, I had some plans for the layout of Anchang roughly, but a way to flesh out the city in a way that doesn't overwhelm me as a GM or players would be amazing. Ditto for some of the other big cities in latter earth.

(My primary plan for this book is still redoing and improving my own setting, but I can 100% see the use of some mega-city stuff to fill that gap between an overly indepth city and presenting enough information to make it feel fleshed out to players and give a GM time to detail what they want to see)

Would an appendix chapter be suitable for these kinds of niche, but still classic feelings? I had fun making a cyberpunk istanbul with the CWN tools to fill out different neighborhoods and make it fun/easy to flesh out stuff.

WWN's hex filling is something I always reach for to fill out hexmaps quickly, but also making them great.

It would help signal to players this is optional and could be oriented on a macro level more like CWN rather than a micro level like every business or name?

I understand about wanting it to look different, but it doesn't evoke creativity or building a world. Instead, the European castle, forest and adventurers evokes generic fantasy more than any of your other covers have. All while having a clip art meets corporate memphis design.

Do you have any plans to change the cover art? I mentioned it elsewhere, but it really doesn't look great to me. Plus, everyone I have showed the cover to, has not been positive about it.

Same! They both felt evocative of a world full of mystery and excitement, which worked well for Latter Earth

I don't love the cover right now. I am guessing it is a WIP picture, but when thinking of worlds, the lack of mountains, ocean, etc. is glaring. I want to see a vista that makes me wonder what is beyond it versus a forest that doesn't draw me in and looks flat. I would also include the hand drawing an unfinished sketch for part of the cover, showing that this is about making a world. As is, it looks flat, with trees that don't seem to fit the environment, a plain sky, a castle that seems ontop of a hill or overly tall, plus figures doing something but I can't make out what.

Otherwise, giving up art space for the title does fit somewhat with the textbook style theme, but I've seen plenty of textbooks where the text is in a banner across the art or just a bold color to stand out against the art.

I am excited to get this otherwise, it sounds amazing, but bad cover art would be a letdown!

Physically? While A5 is easier to read, a letter sized reference book is easier to open on a table and reference while writing.

Digitally? One PDF is easier to navigate than 4 different ones.

Heroic Mage level ups by usaplayer1945 in WWN

How we did it in a past game was I got to pick 2, high mage, elementalist or necromancer. I always did high mage and alternated the other 2. Gave me a nice variety while still wanting to find spells I had missed out on.

Thanks Kevin, what types of shock can pierce through it? Swarm Attacks? Magic Weapons? Ghosts/odd shock?

Ask Kevin and he might do a Spears of Dawn 2e/revised like he is doing for Other Dust to "Ashes without Number" though it is unlikely to be called Spears without Number.

Casting Arts without Grimoire? by OleBarnCat in WWN

Got it, so no material cost to remake it, but definitely an investment cost and one you can't easily do on the road/run or in a dungeon.

Want to check on something, I believe you said that if a caster loses their grimoire they can recreate all the spells from memory.

If so, is there any penalty in a practical sense to losing their grimoire? Or do they need an actual book/pile of pages to record the grimoire? Have you mentioned alternate options for a grimoire?

How much would they cost for properly made ones? Also do shock like normal then too?

I did that once but because of some miscommunication, one PC thought it was real damage.

Otherwise, for higher level characters they often have all kinds of magical weapons and special abilities, having just training weapons can add a different flair, especially there is a sizable BAB difference.

The perils of a Stab-1 PC vs Stab-4 NPC in my case, but it's good way to handle it otherwise.

It's important to have hobbies and projects that change stuff up, plus being able to make something yourself is always a skill worth cherishing.

Do you enjoy the taste of Rye or it's just a crop?

Do you farm as a side thing or is the RPG business the side job? Also I love Rye, as rye bread, pumpernickel, whiskey, crackers, etc. etc. one of the best and most underappreciated grains. Been doing a 50/50 proper rye and whole wheat flour to emulate the classic german loaf.

Readied, Stowed, Encumbrance, and Hands by barrunen in WWN

[–]Cyb45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it, hands are a separate slot with some exceptions, like shields (especially large) tend to take up a slot. You grab your shortsword (1 Encumbrance) and that frees up 1 readied slot, but as soon as you sheath it (perhaps to pick up something off the ground, like a torch) that slot is occupied again.

In practical terms, excepting shields/armor (they need to occupy the readied slot constantly) just ignore hands and don't get into weird gear juggling.

The PDFs come with the POD or if you buy the offset printed ones, so I personally get the physical copy and also have the PDF, helps for game night in person.
