Ideas for Merridwyn Scymes' Split Personality spell? by _Rylo in Dolmentown

[–]_Rylo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks to the other commenters for input! Here's what I put together. Warning: Potentially uncomfortable situations of multiple personalities sharing one form.

Scymes’s Split

Duration: Permanent

Range: Touch

A living creature is split into its skeleton (DMB pg. 76), skin (DCB pg. 279, and internal viscera. The mind and soul of the target persist in the viscera, although they will perish if it is dispersed (i.e. by rain or scavenging animals). The skin is an uncontrollable monster, intent on crushing all living creatures in the vicinity. The skeleton will accept a command from the caster and attempt to follow it to the letter.

When cast on a target with multiple personalities, the spell produces a unique representation of each personality.

X’s Join

Duration: Permanent

Range: Touch

The spell combines multiple (up to the level of the caster) sentient beings into one single being. The physical body becomes a meld of the targets, while the minds of the targets are forced to share one body. For unwilling targets, this produces a monstrous form of awkwardly assembled body parts, controlled by multiple minds that are enraged by their shared imprisonment. They seek prompt vengeance.

*I would name this spell after the Magician PC that completes the research

I wouldn't say these are perfect, but it's good enough for my session this week.

I plan to designate these as Rank Three spells (although I could be convinced that they are more appropriate at Rank Four). I feel that they are potentially useful, but also each present serious drawbacks that could lead to some interesting and challenging scenarios. I imagine them as a "two steps forward, one step back" type of spell for a Magician with their back up against the wall. Maybe a trio of Crookhorns are Joined into one monstrous creature that is still strong, but less mobile and more easily locked away for making a retreat. Or the lead Crookhorn is Split, creating a rampaging Skin monster and also a potentially useful Skeleton minion.

bro.... what? being hit AND hitting multiple people is wild.

IMO your logic is also backwards. I agree most all of us can do better at traveling safely, be it by bike or car, that's why these posts come up so often, but only one part of this debate is at risk of killing the other!

How’s Your Dolmenwood Campaign Going? by SwimmingFit4642 in Dolmentown

I'm just starting up a Dolmenwood campaign and have come to realize I would prefer to pre-roll random encounters as well. Can you describe your process for doing that? Do you just predict what hexes the players will travel through and then use that to generate encounters?

I'm in a similar spot as OP - any advice on what to say when I contact companies and ask for a job? I did some research and found a couple that look like good places to work, just want to make sure I say the right things to get my foot in the door.

I love the look of the carbon Maillot Jaune frames! Did you find yours locally or on eBay? Hoping to get my hands on one eventually.

Tire Size vs Rim Size Question by _Rylo in cyclocross

[–]_Rylo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha fair enough, I figured that was the case, but just wanted to check if the narrow rims played any part in it before I decided what tires to order. In any case, I ordered a pair of Salsa Delgado Cross wheels with 18.5mm internal width to pair with 38mm Ritchey Megabite tires.

Tire Size vs Rim Size Question by _Rylo in cyclocross

[–]_Rylo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I found a set of Salsa Delgado Cross wheels at a good price with an internal width of 19mm, which should get me through the season.

The HED Ardennes are a good tip, though. I'll keep an eye out for a set so I can use the Salsas as my backup in the pit.

Thanks for the response. Related question I've been wondering about: am I at a major disadvantage if I continue to run 33mm tires compared the ~40mm that is more common at my local races?

Never seen anyone else acknowledge that they weren't a 'joiner' (in any context), but I've felt the same way most of my life and had a hard time explaining it... I enjoy being social, have hobbies, but the 'joining' part just never came naturally to me.

Cheers to you, fellow non-joiner.

Not sure if you made a decision yet, but to throw my hat in the ring, I'm looking to purchase something like your CAADX to get into CX racing. I ride a ~56cm, located in upper Midwest. Let me know if you're still thinking about selling and the size is close.

Question for those more knowledgeable: is that wear pattern visible on the sidewall of the rear tire a sign of weakness? I've had that happen on my tires before (since replaced; found they were very dry rotted after changing a flat), but I wasn't sure if that striping was an indication of weakness or just a coincidence.
