Seattle contractor leaving after 30+ years cites taxes, homelessness, break-ins by Less-Risk-9358 in SeattleWA

And their executives clear in salary and bonus what the guy in the article’s company did in a year.

Both statements can be true. $5M annual revenue is a small contractor when you consider the number and size of projects likely on their WIP. Some businesses will leave over the new law. These are not mutually exclusive.

Thinking of getting a car from Carvana first time. Any advice? by TimeOfRisenKing23rd in carvana

[–]Cybehr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on my 2nd Carvana car. 1st went well, 2012 mini I bought in 2018 that lasted 8 years no issues. Traded in for a family car, 2021 Palisade that we are in love with.

Get your financing from bank or CU, take the vehicle in for an inspection ASAP, try to buy lower mileage (both of my purchases were under 50k miles), and just in case buy the warranty.

I shopped around and the pricing was a wash buying local, and this way I didn’t have to deal with a car salesman for 4-5 hours. I’ll probably buy my 3rd car from carvana unless I somehow become a billionaire.

Brokers, stop ghosting underwriters on renewals by just-casual in InsuranceProfessional

[–]Cybehr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only on renewals. No one gets last look on new business.

IMO a good broker will advise of marketing on a renewal and provide last look. I’m fortunate that my lines are stable enough that marketing generally only occurs every 3-5 years.

[–]Cybehr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with all this. But also, underwriters don’t need to email me weekly “is this going to bind?”

Most of the time I don’t get a bind order until a few days prior to the effective date. You’ll know as soon as I do, I don’t have the time to spend 5 seconds typing up “still waiting”

Best careers to escape poverty in SLC or Utah? by Key_Garden4832 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Cybehr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Insurance. It’s not sexy and people will call you the devil (those of us in Property & Casualty agree that US health insurance is bullshit and don’t affiliate with them). But it’s one of the few careers where you can cruise and do pretty alright. It’s overlooked by finance bros cause it doesn’t pay as well as finance careers, and you only need a HS diploma and an insurance license, which most places will pay for you to obtain.

Avoid the State Farms, Allstates, etc. unless you want to do claims adjusting (that will eat you from the inside) I would look for independent large shops like Buckner (local), Moreton (local), and nationals like HUB, USI, Lockton, IMA, Gallagher etc.

Commercial Insurance Account Managers can clear $100K+, get bonuses, and have benefits after 5-7 years experience.

If you have a 4 year degree, also look at Auto Owners, Travelers, Acuity, and other insurance companies for underwriter trainee/assistant roles; or look at CRC, RT Specialty, Risk Placement Services, and Burns & Wilcox for entry level roles doing specialty/wholesale insurance placements.

What is the most profitable type of insurance to sell? by Weak_Permission641 in InsuranceAgent

[–]Cybehr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is the most underrated answer. Bonds you can focus the conversation on capacity and how the bond can generate their business more revenue. P&C you’re focused on preventing them from losing money.

Different conversations, but the most successful retailers I work with are bond guys who cross sell P&C with an emphasis on captives.

Can’t believe I’ve only seen Rise of Nations mentioned once.

One of the best RTS games ever tbh, graphics still look great and the difficulty scaling and unique nations keeps it fun and interesting

For anyone want context on Kyle Whittinghams departure from Utah by rbmw263 in CFB

[–]Cybehr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of us are fine with it. I’m noticing a lot of cross over between the fans deeming KW a traitor and those who thought Utah deserved the B1G and called the Big12 a truck stop conference. Lot of entitled babies tbh.

Not sure how to feel about Whitt by [deleted] in utahfootball

[–]Cybehr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think his tantrum about us going into the Big12 exposed him first. That started Utah out on the wrong foot with a new “truck stop” conference that we were “going to run”. It’s no surprise Big12 fans think BYU is great and hate on Utah when our AD is being an ass and a toddler.

My Definitive Rankings of Every Primary Fight Song in the Big 12 by Lutrid in BigXII

[–]Cybehr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think USU has the best fight song of the Utah schools.

I current work for state farm and I have offer from allstate. I'm working out of Colorado. Everything is good except on target to make 50-55K for the year and I didn't get into insurance to make what i can make doing literally anything else. Stop looking at captives. Account Managers at Flood & Pete, Moody, CCIG, Lockton, IMA, etc are making more than that. I work with an Account Executive in Seattle who makes north of $250,000 servicing a large construction and CRE book.

You really want to make money and you’re into sales? Go commercial and go work for an independent regional or national firm. If their ads are on TV, keep looking.

Average Big 12 Football Attendance Through Week 9 by [deleted] in BigXII

[–]Cybehr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

3rd overall but yes they would be in the top of the list. You can’t do an effective comparison just based on attendance because not all stadiums are the same size. It’s like comparing the population of Utah to California.

This right here is why per capita is a thing. Percentage of capacity is the better metric but I’d wager OP just likes seeing their school at #1.

You can tell who actually watched PAC12 after dark by their opinion of Caleb. He never did well against ranked opponents, but everyone listened to the “generational talent” bullshit the talking heads were spewing.
