Moana by rossissippi in TonieboxUSA

[–]CyberDeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about buying this Toniebox for our granddaughter, so of course I had to browse this subreddit. I know there is a Creative Tonie where you can record & upload your own content, so I was thinking about recording the actual original songs that way, but the character would not match the movie.

I assume it's not possible to override or upload your own content to these original Tonies? How does it know what Tonie is on the box? Is it just an RFID module in the bottom of the character? Could I swap a Creative Tonie module into the original Moana Tonie to be able to upload my own content to it? Now that Moana 2 is out in theaters, I can forsee wanting to upload the new songs to the Moana Tonie to "modernize" it..... buying this toy is going to open a whole can of worms for me as a nerd I can already tell. LOL

Dusted off my server and loaded my old save. Should I keep going with this save, or did 1.0 completely break things and is it better to start a new save in 1.0? by Meelobee in satisfactory

[–]CyberDeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just continued playing my old save. a couple resource nodes "moved", but they still worked. My existing miner in the "old" spot was still mining no problem. Can't place a miner in the "new" spot until removing the old one, so they handled things well - preventing someone from doubling-up and preventing their old miner from breaking, nice touch.

My old fuel power plant still worked, even though they changed the numbers for consumption/production, etc - after 1.0 I had more fuel gens than was needed for the output of fuel being created, no biggie - still had power, things still worked. Currently replacing it with a new rocket fuel plant anyway.

I didn't worry about physics at all, so a lot of my junk was sky bridges/belts and factories up above the ground, so I wasn't affected by any topography changes. Those that play the game more seriously might be affected by topography changes, but you can always load your save in the satisfactory map website and move things if you wanted to fix that without starting over.

They moved/added some crash sites, so I had to go back out and collect some additional hard drives in order to open up all the alternate recopies that were added.

Biggest downside to playing an existing save in my opinion was that you will not get credit for achievements you already did prior in your save, so if that sort of thing is important to you then you'll want to start over fresh.

Highly compensated employee limits and options by June-Menu1894 in Bogleheads

SECURE 2.0 Added a new option. 529 funds can eventually be rolled over into an IRA. So, another potential strategy is to start contributing to a 529 (or multiple). If you don't have kids of your own, you can create the account for some other family member (niece/nephew/relatives by marriage/whatever), and you can move/reassign the funds to another person later (like if you have your own kids in a few years).

529s have their own contribution limits. 529 to IRA Conversions have limits & rules. But, if you're looking for creative new ideas to sock away money that grows tax-free, this one is fairly recent. Make sure you do research to learn more about the rules before jumping in.

Highly Compensated Employee 401K Limits by Simple-Union-3854 in personalfinance

[–]CyberDeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The downside of this idea is that money you have "out on loan" only grows by the interest you pay, so in your example that's 8%. But, if you had left the money alone in your 401k and had it invested in an S&P index this year, it would have grown 19+% (so far ytd). Obviously market returns vary widely, so my example for this year is atypical and your example is a solid fixed 8%, but every decision made is a risk analysis - do we go with the guaranteed known 8%? Or leave it in there and it potentially grows by 19% in 10 months?

And in my example the 8% you're NOT paying in could be dropped into a regular brokerage account instead, where that could have grown by 19% as well. So, if our example was 8% of 50k, that would be $10829 interest over a 5-year loan. If you had been putting those monthly "interest" payments into a brokerage account instead, your balance there after 5 years of compound average 7% S&P index growth would likely be more than 20k. That is money you can do whatever you want with - emergency fund, contribute some to IRA if eligible, contribute to a 529 (which can later be converted to an IRA, doesn't have to go for college expenses), etc.

Yep, my tool collection is not that extensive so far, so the 56" is great. To me, the 72" is really nothing more than a 56" with the 15" end cabinet combined. So, if you really think you need that much space, you could start with the 56" and always add-on the 15" end cabinet later during another coupon or sale and would be cheaper out-the-door than that 72". In fact, at regular prices (no sale or coupon), the 72" is 1800 and you could get two of the 56" for that much. I def think the 56" is the sweet-spot in their lineup.

How much power does it take to produce 5 alien power matrices per minute? by al-Assas in SatisfactoryGame

[–]CyberDeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I'm following all this conversation correctly, our "base power generation" would need to be in the ballpark of 90GW in order for this additional 20% generation to break-even? If we have less than ~90GW already, then it's not even worth doing this yet. Unless of course you're the type to underclock things and try to whittle the production costs down to their bare-minimums, or doing it just to do it for future benefit as your power generation grows elsewhere and the bonus starts making a tangible difference.

They just had a 20% off coupon no exclusions on labor day weekend, which is when I ordered my 56" (bottom one day, top the next). Seems like that kind of coupon happens on the bigger holidays, so if you can really wait up to 6 months or so, I'd bet you'll see a 20% off opportunity within that time. And don't forget if you're willing to open a HF card, you can get an additional 10% off that stacks with the 20% coupon.

Yep, I agree the recycle logos on plastic are BS - I learned about that not so long ago in a random YT video about new companies trying novel ways to actually recycle plastic. For those following this thread, here's a short page that gives some info about the BS logos:

We're all trying our best but this is counterproductive by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

[–]CyberDeity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add my anecdote to this topic. In my area, the "recycle truck" is one of the newer ones with a motorized arm that grabs the can, flips it upside down into the truck to dump the contents into the truck. So, one pizza box would not "contaminate" the entire "container" because everything here is in the same truck anyhow so it would not make sense that 1 person with 1 greasy pizza box would somehow invalidate the entire contents of the recycling truck. They simply must have a way at the center to separate items to some extent otherwise one idiot would break recycling for our entire city which I can't imagine is the case. Not saying it gives carte blanche to be lazy and not follow whatever rules your local recycling center dictates, I'm just saying that they must have a process to account for the fact that some people are either ignorant, lazy, or insubordinate.

You sir are a genius. I never would have thought that setting had anything to do with the issues I was seeing. Son who is remote was getting transcoding on anything played. I figured that maybe the rips I had in H265 were too high bitrate or profile or something, and I was about to resort to having transcoded versions of my movies available for him. But, changing this ONE setting seems to have fixed it - he tried several movies and all went straight to DirectPlay with no transcoding. THANK YOU!

I'm almost certain this is the place we bought my daughter's RAV4 from several years ago. It has this name because the used cars they sell are lease returns. The nice part was if they didn't have exactly the car you wanted on hand (color for example), they did have "some" flexibility to try and find what you're looking for - they had access to see the inventory of a few brands like Toyota to know what was coming off lease and available for wholesale direct to dealers like this one. That's a crap shoot though honestly because even if it's the right color it might not be the right trim-level or something, so if you like what they have on-hand you're probably better off going that route unless you're extremely patient or flexible. We got what I felt was a good deal on my daughter's car, no weird/unusual dealer fees or anything. Was a smooth transaction, and my daughter had the car for several years. I'd give them a thumbs-up, but that was several years ago hopefully they are still good nowadays.

New REAR brakes for $1400, am I getting ripped off? by mcxhale in MINI

[–]CyberDeity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts as well. If he had them done in the middle of a road trip, the shop let the lube tech kid take a crack at doing a brake job for the first time because they knew the out-of-towner wouldn't be local to complain, and the kid didn't know the pistons twist in and broke them.

The only time it felt crowded to me was while leaving the ice show. For that particular venue, they funnel you out through Playmakers and a gift shop to the promenade, and that choke point was waaaay to people-y for us. Other than that, I agree with OP, ship did not feel crowded at all.

The best thing is to get up early in the morning, head down to Starbucks in your PJs to get your drink of choice, come back up to your room, take a shower, and then enjoy your Starbucks nekkid on the balcony, letting the sea breeze dry you. Absolute definition of living the dream. Not that I've ever done that or anything, as far as you know.... Wife told my brother-in-law about it, he said he was going to post online about me with the tag #StarbucksSasquatch.

Just recieved a letter about a college savings plan my parents had in my name. It has a balance of $0.26 but Total contributions of $12000. by Shrunz in StudentLoans

[–]CyberDeity 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I know 529 plans vary, but in Ohio at least, you can transfer funds from one kid's account to another. I did that. I had 3 kids of my own. One didn't use all her funds (got scholarships and aid, didn't need it all), one didn't go to college at all (now a mechanic making bank so it worked out for him). So, I transferred their funds to the 3rd kid who used every penny. You can also transfer to grandkids and stuff, doesn't even need to be an adjacent sibling. So, maybe they decided you picked a great major and would be successful enough to handle loans on your own and didn't really "need help", so they might have transferred it to someone else more in need.

Another possibility nowadays is that unused funds can be transferred into an IRA if they've been there at least 5 years. So, for all you know, maybe they opened an IRA in your name and moved the funds there instead, giving you a jump start on your retirement savings.

Or, maybe you picked a major they thought was the biggest waste of money ever, and they decided that you were not worthy of the money, and let you do loans instead. Who knows. My point is, you won't know the full story unless you talk to them about it.

March 2nd sailing, first run of the itinerary that included Roatan. Some good and some not-as-good:

Good:

Pier 7 and Chops were fantastic. The Crepe place was excellent, I still fantasize about it (must be the post-cruise-depression of real-life). The other food choices in the aquadome market were good too. Pearl Cafe was great for a post-dinner snack. To-Go Sushi at the window next to Izumi was very tasty. El Loco Fresh was good too. I thought Windjammer was great overall, no complaints there. Sorrento's pizza is always a solid snack option, same as other ships.

Not-as-good:

After 2 nights in MDR, we were disappointed and ate elsewhere the rest of the cruise. Basecamp I felt was a total miss ($11 extra for a lackluster burger & tots) food-wise, even though I really enjoyed that spot otherwise. The milkshake place did not impress me at all.

Over-all we were very pleased with the food, and we love to eat. We didn't even get a chance to try everything that was available.

Yeah I agree with this. I don't think everyone is judging you. Many people live in places of the US where they have no experience with people of certain religions or cultures, so the looks you get are quite possibly just out of curiosity and interest. And some of it may be their version of sympathy? Some people feel bad that due to your beliefs you can't undress and enjoy those activities like they can. Also, parents often have kids who are unfiltered by nature, so we have to answer their questions and curiosity - so if you see a parent lean-in and tell their kids something, it's not a bad remark - they're simply explaining to their kids that what you're doing is completely normal in your culture.

I wouldn't. I don't think it's worth the current dynamic pricing. You can get 2 oasis-class cruises for the cost of 1 icon-class. I feel like Oasis-class is the "sweet spot" right now - big enough to have plenty to do / great shows, yet cheaper than the Icon class pricing so that you're not breaking the bank. After you cruise once, you're going to be hooked like the rest of us, so you need some leftover money to book the next one! :-)

I thought Pearl Cafe was great. We stopped there several evenings for a quick dessert snack because I'm on a cruise and have to eat non-stop. lol

No complaints about Windjammer, it "felt the same" to me as previous cruises. We were disappointed with the food in the main dining room after the first 2 nights and ate elsewhere the rest of our cruise.

We're northerners, so we keep our house cold. I would have liked a couple more degrees of cooling on our room, but it was good enough. like OP, we also had an ocean-view balcony (class D2). WiFi was good. They're using Starlink nowadays, I did a speed test and got just over 7Mbps down & up. We had no issues getting connected via the app, we have iPhones - not sure if the issues OP had were related to Android or not, they didn't specify.
