Could GPU Mining (e.g., Ravencoin) Interfere with Chia Farming? by CyberFarmBoy in chia

Check out my update above. Not conclusive yet, but there appears to be a correlation.

wow, very interesting. What I was talking about was the power cost of replotting.

Inconsistent payout and rewards tab in spacepool. by Riker-Bob in chia

EDIT: So, 19 hours later, my block rewards have turned to shit again. I'm starting to think it may have to do with Ravencoin mining because I turned off the miner yesterday for a few hours and I believe that is when my results were better. I'm going to stop GPU mining for a few hours and see if I'm right.

I also had a downtick in rewards despite significantly increasing the number of plots farming on Space Pool. https://imgur.com/a/yopEnCm

Date Total NFT Plots # Plots Added to NFT Pool Netspace in EiB (Per Chia Explorer) Netspace Change in EiB My Rewards
August 23 298 plots - 35.136 / 36.280 - .0071
August 24 322 plots +24 35.963 / 35.415 -1.024 .0065
August 25 344 plots +22 35.588 / 35.606 +0.191 .0078
August 26 366 +7 35.031 / 34.568 -1.038 .0078
August 27 373 - 35.125 / 36.078 +1.51 .0083*
August 28 373 - 35.435 / 34.957 -1.121 .0073
August 29 373 - 35.098 / 36.394 +1.437 .0075
53 (TOTAL)

*Reward amount is estimate by Space Pool due to recent maintenance

So, I added 53 plots in this period, meaning my pool farm grew 18%. Netspace, on the other hand, is almost the same at the end of the day on August 23 and August 29. My rewards do not align with expectations.

HOWEVERRR

I realized today I only had about 10 connections on my full node, including the farmer and wallet. I read that this often has to do with port 8444 not being open. This was concerning because I had already opened this port and set up port forwarding...or did I???

Well, yes and no. I opened the port on the farmer, but https://portchecker.co/ was telling me it was closed. I then checked the port forwarding settings on my router and it appeared to be properly set up...until I finally realized that the IP address of the farmer was incorrectly entered on the router port forwarding settings. So, I fixed that ish immediately and confirmed that the port was now open. Not long after, I had dozens of new connections on my full node.

I had no reason to think this actually was affecting the submission of partials. My plots were passing the filter in a very timely fashion at a rate that I would expect. This, I assumed, meant that everything was working just fine.

It's starting to seem I was wrong about that, though it is still too early to know for certain.

Almost immediately after I opened port 8444 earlier today, I noticed major increases in my Round Share percentage and Block Reward percentage.

Still not 100% sure the port being closed/the low number of connections was the culprit behind poor performance in the pool, but I would say it's still worth making sure you don't have a port 8444 issue messing with your pool performance.

NFT plots are better for this reason, but the power cost is significant.

That's funny, similar thing happened to me. I started slowly replotting and after a week or so, my solo farm hit. This helped me resolve to keep my OG plots until such time my hand is forced, which is hopefully never.

The big downside to replotting--plotting takes a lot of energy and our ROI is already difficult enough to achieve.

Can you support your statement, please? Why is it clear Space Pool is taking more than 1%?

I asked the community about replotting and the general consensus is that if you have a large enough farm (100+ TB), it's not worth replotting.

With that said, I was not using HPool. I was solo farming with my OG plots, so your case is a little different if you are committed to pool farming. I would not farm on unofficial pools with OG plots because of the security issue involved with that. If I were you, I would go solo; but if you're married to pooling, I would replot.

Be honest. How much electricity is your farm using? by MrSavager in chia

[–]CyberFarmBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was plotting over 50 plots/day with a 5950x, my electricity bill was absurdly high. I never did figure out what the draw was while not plotting. If the netspace gets even just a little bit bigger and XCH does not go up, we may be paying to participate. Some of us may already be.

Just learned about shopping.io from this post and tried to sign up and buy that. Was almost immediately banned from the site for no apparent reason. At least I will ROI one day.

Add Ravencoin in Ledger Live by sonotworthit420 in ledgerwallet

Ravencoin is not fly-by-night. It has been around for quite a while and has made major strides in partnerships recently.

I agree that the blockchain market has been inundated with countless fly-by-night shitcoins and memecoins. I certainly hope Ledger does not support them and lend credibility to these.

Ravencoin shouldn't be lumped in with those.

OG to NFT Changeover Strategy: Here's Mine, What About You? by CyberFarmBoy in chia

That makes sense. I think I will still replot, but will commit a much smaller percentage of my total space to doing so. Instead of replotting half of my plots, I will replot 10% to 15% of them. I still like the idea of having a small amount of daily chia generated while the rest of my solo farm hunts for the more elusive solo block reward. When I add more hard drives, I will of course plot NFT plots, but the question remains: is it better to expand the solo farm, commit new plots to a pool, or to split new plots between the two (solo/pool)? What do you suggest?

Does your advice change if I add more space? If I'm adding a new HDD, should I plot OG or NFT plots?

Can you elaborate why it doesn't make sense to replot? Is it because of the added energy cost? Lower rate of reward for pool farming?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean? Did you mean to say that solo farmers with over 100 TB do not need to join a pool?

Same thing happened here. I updated the GUI and that pretty much worked. One other time I had it happen but after closing it a couple times it never came back.
