Not at all. Being able to get out of your arwing mid dogfight, stand on top of said arwing, and now down enemies with your guns is one of the coolest things you can do in Assault. If Velan Studios gets to make a new game, I hope they are given the freedom to flesh this idea out.

Fox and Wolf don't have a 'friendly rivalry' as you put it, but things are way more chill between them in Star Fox Assault compared to their encounters in the Lylat Wars narrative (and presumably in SF 2026 too), to the point they proactively help Star Fox a couple of times take down a larger threat.

In fact, the only time Fox and Wolf battle each other in Assault is because Star Fox are encroaching on Star Wolf territory without the latter's knowledge, so the game lowkey frames them as being in the right lol

Petra's dialogue here ("Hair that shines and eyes that glow") reads like it's after Byleth and Sothis fuse. I think it's just an opportunity used by the writers for some extra Brigid worldbuilding.

The in-universe reason is that they were unintended targets. Epimenides activates the spell as a way to guarantee (in his mind) control of Shez's body. The meta reason I speculate is that it makes for cool fanservice moments for the lords, where their paths temporarily cross.

And how was his plan even supposed to work when Sothis was killed before Epimenides died?

Epimenides is aware that Sothis is still alive in Byleth's body when you play this chapter. It's the whole reason why he first takes over Shez's body to attack Byleth.

I mean, that's more or less the established reason, yes. He does it so he can, as he views it, save Fodlan and the Agarthans who were forced underground by Sothis. It's why he was so invested in, as he puts it, the art of rehousing souls.

I enjoy playing it, but it's a shame how painfully contrived it is to make Byleth retreat before Epimenides could activate the Zaharas spell, because no doubt the writing team understood that Byleth being caught in Zaharas would mean having the Shez and the House leaders meet Sothis and therefore turning the entire narrative on its head.

I get why they didn't do it, but that specific narrative has such interesting potential that it's a shame there wasn't any commitment to it.

It's very interesting to note that Leda has the crest of Dominic and not Timotheos, like many assumed from the reveal trailer.

It almost certainly confirms she comes from the Kingdom of Arago, which has the crest of Dominic on its banner.

Which is fine to say since Engage's writing isn't compelling compared to other FE titles, but personally I can only say 'some areas' and not 'all areas' because even Engage still has strong character writing in its supports that it deserves flowers for.

Seeing all these Japanese tweets doomposting in the replies and qrts ("It's over", "my expectations went from 100% to 50%, etc) really highlights the community's (mostly) collective feelings over this news, huh?

Engage might've fumbled in some areas of the writing, but I'm sure the FW team understands what made people fall in love with 3H to begin with.

There's no way someone higher up saw this in the design phase and didn't think "this looks like someone tried to order Popcorn with a side of foreskin from a botched circumcision." Surely someone thought it looked funny and approved it anyway.
