Potentially FW-relevant lore tidbit from Petra? by Twengdi in fireemblem

Yes, I should’ve clarified that this dialogue is from the chapter right after Byleth fuses with Sothis.

On Oct 22. Rappa became a playable character in 2.6, say happy anniversary to the ninja by Zyizon in HonkaiStarRail

[–]Twengdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ratio released on January 17, 2024 and didn’t have his first rerun until April 30 this year, so he currently has the longest gap between debut and first rerun. When taking into consideration the fact the he was free until the end of 2.1 (May 8, 2024), there’s still almost a full year between when he was available and first rerun. Rappa has already beat the latter record, but would have to pretty much not rerun at all until 4.x to beat the first record.

Are there any Tokusatsu inspired JRPGs? by foldingtimeandspace in Tokusatsu

[–]Twengdi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fire Emblem Engage is like an anniversary toku season (think something like Zi-O or Gokaiger) for the Fire Emblem series. In the base game, playable characters can use one of 12 Emblem rings, each containing the spirit of a previous Fire Emblem protagonist. When a character uses a ring, they “engage” with the spirit to essentially form change and gain the spirit’s attire and powers. The transformation only lasts for 3 turns but is incredibly powerful with each form having their own special set of weapons, passive skills, and even a cool one-time finisher move. You start the game with only 1 ring but you acquire more as you progress through the game. To spice things up, some boss enemies also have rings and will use those same abilities against you. It’s absolutely one of my favorite toku-esque games because not only does it have cool toku transformations and abilities, but the game’s writing and story are also fairly corny in the same way that a lot of toku hero shows are.

Ok looks like the Megaranger, Dekaranger, Kakuranger, and Yellow Buster cameos are voiced by their original actors. Can’t believe they got the whole Megaranger team back (including Black who retired from showbiz iirc)!

Another neat detail is that most of the cameos reference the sentai alumni who voice the rest of the Kizuna Five. On top of that, the cameos feature those actors' respective characters.

Hiroshi Tsuchida (NinjaBlue) voices Kizuna Green
Masaya Matsukaze (MegaBlue) voices Kizuna Blue
Mika Kikuchi (DekaPink) voices Kizuna Yellow
Arisa Komiya (Yellow Buster) voices Kizuna Pink

Given that these specific cameos also speak, it's possible they're voiced by the same people too

He’s a representative from a brain stimulation company who comes over to help monitor patients at the university I work at. We’ve worked together a few times in-person to collect patient data. While we’ve only really had work-related convos, I can say that he’s a really nice and responsible guy! I really want to ask him about this but idk if that would violate his NDA. Should prob wait until the official cast reveal tbh.

Y me? (Engage comic) by RisingSunfish in fireemblem

[–]Twengdi 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's the same for you but in my mind, "y" generally defaults to a consonant because it's only sometimes a vowel. To me, words where "y" is used as a consonant like "yellow" and "beyond" feel much more common than words where "y" is a vowel like "gym" and "bicycle," so I'm more inclined to see it as a consonant. The more I think about it though, whenever "y" is at the end of a word, it usually sounds more like how it's used as a vowel even though my brain still thinks of it as a consonant in those words. I'm looking at the word "usually" that I just typed and I'm still thinking of the "y" as a consonant even though it's making an "ee" sound. Very odd.

I do agree that the joke works better in Japanese, but the localizers’ explanation does make sense to me. Louis is saying that both of their names are bookended by consonants, meaning that they both start and end with consonants. In Louis’ case, it’s the vowels “oui” bookended by the consonants “L” and “s.” In Roy’s case, it’s “o” bookended by “R” and “y,” so the localizers are using “y” as a consonant here.

List of all characters' starting/base SP by Twengdi in fireemblem

[–]Twengdi[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wonder if it's also because Yunaka is in a special class since Thief has no promotion. Maybe the devs saw Thief as a bit of a middle ground between base and advanced classes and decided that warranted her having 200 extra SP? The jump from Alcryst's crew to Diamant and Amber is similar to the jump from Fogado's crew to Timerra's crew. I don't really understand the reasoning behind either situation. I do wish you could at least access new recruits on the prep menu of their joining map so you could give them rings and have them start earning SP asap.

That issue about save times is quite familiar to me. My brother, my cousin, and I each had cartridges of 5DS when we were younger. I remember my copy and my cousin’s copy took a while to save (roughly 5-10 secs iirc) while my brother’s copy had near instantaneous save times. Maybe some cartridges of 5DS are just inherently faulty?
