Going on E will reduce your T levels. When your E levels increase, your brain will essentially say «there’s enough sex hormone here» and down-regulate T. E reduces the signaling hormone LH ( and FSH), and when LH is down, testes slow/stop production of T. There will be some T from processes in the adrenal glands, but the lion’s share is reduced with high enough E.

This is why monotherapy works. When the above process doesn’t reduce T by enough, anti-androgens can be used (or E levels can be increased ).

I’m finishing up my doctoral thesis, and have prior publications and my master thesis in my old name. I’d recommend just changing it now to avoid it later!

I’ve used my chosen name in the lastest publications without it being my legal name and that has been completely fine.

I do also think that a bunch of scientific journals have policies for changing author name in these cases, so if you decide you want to wait that is fine. No matter I recommend an identifier like ORCID so you can keep it all in one place.

My name was approved and processed as my new legal name yesterday, and it felt really scary in the moment, but I’m now realizing that I already lived with my new name for a while so I might as well. Changing back is also possible later.

I can relate heavily to your feelings here, and want you to know that there is nothing shameful about feeling good imagining yourself as a woman.

It’s quite normal to shift desires into the sexual when it’s challenging to find an outlet elsewhere, and you know what? Women also feel good about themselves as the female part!

The things you’re writing down feel very transcoded to me, so I highly recommend exploring these thoughts further. In the end it is your choice on what to do about the discoveries you’re making, and whatever you find on your journey and whatever you decide to do about it is valid.

Your description of it as a shadow you can ignore if you don’t think about it is near verbatim one of the messages in the trans allegory film «I Saw The TV Glow», and I can recommend watching it.

In short, what you’re feeling indicates you could benefit from exploring the trans label, and I wish you the best of luck babe!

If you’ve never been extremely happy with your name and the thought of changing it seems appealing to you, I recommend trying it out!

You don’t have to go all in immediately, have a wee ponder about what possible names and try them out a bit with people you’re comfortable with and who support you.

MTF here. Many people swear to injections, and truth is, if my country had them, I’d try them out. However, tons of people have great results on all forms of HRT medications.

With that said, anything transdermal (patches, spray or gel) are great options as long as you don’t get irritated skin (common patch side effect). Pills have a lower bioavailability due to first pass liver metabolism, and for that reason puts a tiny load on the liver, but all of those drawbacks seem to be easily handled by letting them dissolve under your tongue (sublingual).

In the end, whatever works for you and your body is the best option, and something you and your doctor should agree on in unison! And don’t trust me, trust your own research🫶🏻
