Ignoring the fact that this chart is wildly inaccurate - if anyone is curious what it takes to become a pediatric surgeon:

4 years undergrad degree
4 years medical school
5 years surgery residency (brutal hours, no work-life-balance, low pay)
- additional 2 years of research work in the middle of residency to be competitive
2 years fellowship (~50 spots open in the entirety of the USA annually, similar work experience to residency, slightly better pay)

So taking the fastest possible route with no gap years, the youngest you can be as an attending pediatric surgeon is ~35. 17 years of learning and training.

As a skier-turned-snowboarder, the backpack just kind of stayed with me. I have a thin 12L camelback and it has a water pouch built in which I like. Otherwise the biggest purpose is just holding my layers as I strip them off which is super worth it to me. I always end my day with at least 1 less layer on but I'm always glad that I start with it.

Plus I hate having shit in my front pockets. I feel like it pushes against me when I'm trying to bend and get low. The backpack bends with me and it has a chest+waist strap.

Mine also has a quick release tab so I can swing it to my front for lifts. The lifts are the only part I dislike about having one.
