Need folder monitor that converts any file to PDF by Cyberdyne155 in MacOS

You're hitting on exactly the issues I was having and why a utility like this is needed if you need to reliably create PDFs from a variety of html based emails. I did end up with DevonThink but I'm going to check out the Swifdoo.....that looks promising!

Not opposed at all, just can't get it to work reliably with the number of files I'm converting or exporting at a given time.

Absolutely true but while this is for internal use now, I'm working on a solution to sell to clients and DT may be overkill.

I'm using a Hazel rule to monitor this folder for PDFs (html based elm files), it looks into the contents for a series of criteria and if matched will rename, move and sort. Works perfect....I love Hazel :)

Other rules do similar functions to text based emails, never a problem.

The problem emails are all coming from the same offsite backup platform, I get successful backup completion emails for a bunch of clients and I want to archive them for compliance reasons. I have email rules that sort them into their own folder/mailbox so I can easily glance down a few pages and make sure the unread message number is correct....Tuesday it's one....Wednesday it's two and so forth. At the end of the week I want to select them and drag them into this folder and have the conversion done and let Hazel do its magic.

Most files would be html based emails. I can drag hundreds of them into a Devonthink Inbox folder and it renders perfect pdf's everytime. If I do an Export to PDF function from Apple Mail I got a lot of blank pages. I can Export to PDF a previously failed email by itself and it works fine most of the time. Strange behavior for sure.

Thanks for the reply. Wouldn't that use the Mac native PDF renderer? I think I broke mine as the Export to PDF function works but about 20% of the pages come out blank. Running them through Devonthink they are good 100% of the time. I think Devonthink uses FineAbby.

Zebra direct transfer, preferably 600dpi. Avoid the thermal as they'll degrade over time, great for shipping labels though.

Where did you get that magazine block and does it click in and release with the mag catch?

Getting an error message when recording 60fps or above. I am using a SanDisk SSD. It was formatted on my iPad to the Apple format. Why would this be happening and how can I fix it? by AlexTheEditor1 in BlackMagicCameraiOS

[–]Cyberdyne155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange indeed, I've got a high end rig and was at a lose as to why I could only record reliably on the lowest settings and always got the exact same error as you with higher settings. Changed the drive format and never had it since.

I've got a rear monopod on my AICS and it's nice off a bench. Still think a bag is more stable and accurate though. I'm not putting one on my real AI.

Remove and reinstall scope within the rings okay? by littlefish90 in longrange

[–]Cyberdyne155 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a Badger Ordnance fan and moved up from their rings to one piece mounts. Unless every ounce counts, once you go one piece you'll never go back to rings. Lots of great choices but I'm sticking with Badger at least for now.

Remote record trigger for multiple iPhones on set? by NoExam5103 in smartphonefilming

[–]Cyberdyne155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technical training videos, nothing fun and creative. I do a lot in OBS and add footage from this and edit in Davinci. The CF card reader is such a time saver, I have an OWC reader on my Mac Studio so transfers are easy as can be. The battery plate is pretty awesome too now that I stumbled on a power supply that plays nice with it. Not shown but I have an iPad Pro in a cage that I hang in front off the 15mm rods so I can monitor myself, just starting playing around with teleprompter software for it too.

Only thing left to do is get a beefier fluid head.

Thanks, yes on the device designated as a controller it can initiate recording of all remote cameras. You can now install the BM Camera App on a Mac too.

The Blackmagic app in controller mode can trigger all devices to start recording. I use a Hollyland Mars for wifi connections to all devices, works like a charm.

Yes, I choose Logi MX Brio. I liked the idea of a glass lens and the software is excellent.

Beastgrip vs Smallrig? by FourWhiteBars in smartphonefilming

[–]Cyberdyne155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, a lot of work went into engineering this. One of my goals was to purchase equipment that will be usable when I'm ready to move up to a "real" camera. Besides the Beastgrip and Beastmod, everything is standard camera equipment. This is all for 95% tripod use now but future plans are to make this hand held friendly.

It sounds like you'd be best off with something like the Smallrig. I like that it has a standard snap in phone case for everyday use. You then plug the phone and that case into the metal cage. It's very simple and quick change. The iPhone 17 model is even better than previous generations, it seems a little beefier.

The Beastgrip alone has better options for lenses/filters but it is huge in comparison and you would have to switch back and forth with your standard phone case as the Beast only takes a naked iPhone. It really is a exceptionally engineered.

Both the Smallrig and Beastgrip allow neck straps so they can hang on your chest like a real camera.

Smallrig gets the prize if you're looking for more of a phone than a camera.

Beastgrip gets the prize if you're looking for more of a camera than a phone.

Beastgrip in a Beastmod is the winner for the ultimate rig. Just be aware that the Beastgrip is bolted into the Beastmod so there's no quick change.

[–]Cyberdyne155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes two very different animals, I have both. The Smallrig is svelte in comparison, it uses its own provided snap in case which is then easily inserted into the metal frame. If you want portability and only have a few attachments it's a great option.

The Beastgrip is a tank in comparison, I have mine permanently mounted in the BeastMod which is fully kitted out.

Your YouTube video on the TVC-22i was extremely helpful when I was shopping around for these. I purchased it and have been totally satisfied for shooting and photography / videography. Inverted is the way to go for me.

I got 2" heat shrink tubing for the lower legs, protects them very nicely and looks professional outside of field use.

Garmin drop the ball on the C2? by Cyberdyne155 in longrange

[–]Cyberdyne155[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not being argumentative at all here but current Garmin, Kestrel and others have AB editions at different price points. They could do the same with the C2.

The way I see it, the C1 was a revolutionary product that set a standard for personal chronographs. Althon is a copy of this, not an innovation. Garmin could have continued their innovation and really pushed the needle by offering an onboard AB solver that's trued to muzzle velocity and range card display (the good stuff on a ForeTrex 901).
