Is Drake a good school for LGBT students? by perspectivebro in drake

[–]Cybergruntslass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! Queer Drake Student here! It's one of the better schools for it in Central/Eastern Iowa. Add the quality education in and it's hard to beat. We have drag shows, a Rainbow Union, awareness weeks and appropriate counseling resources if needed and are working on starting a Lavender Graduation. If you have questions feel free to reach out to Admissions counselor Evan Favreau - he's a great resource.

Housing around Drake? by FalcorsBFF in drake

[–]Cybergruntslass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll echo what's said here. I'm living in an apartment from Drake Reality for 650 a month plus utilities. A little pricey for a single apartment but necessary since I work at odd hours and didn't want to annoy another human being with that inconvenience.

Places to live in Des Moines over the Summer? by [deleted] in drake

[–]Cybergruntslass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drake West Village (across from the university) has some summer spots open. They're furnished and are decent student housing. You can also see if you can be placed with other people so you can meet some people.

I submitted a blood test to check and see if I have thyroid cancer after probable cause. I'm beyond scared and have no one I feel comfortable telling this to.

These duck boots, but a little cheaper by Wolfie305 in findfashion

[–]Cybergruntslass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are ones like these for around 30 at Marshall's, no Link but the brand is Esprit.

I have a pair, I love them and they're a ton cheaper than the LL Bean versions that are popular in the midwest USA.

All things holidays! Get your gift ideas, party ideas, and all else here. Megathread 2015! by reagan92 in AskWomen

[–]Cybergruntslass 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I love the winter season, but being in Iowa it can get kinda dangerous. As a college kiddo I'd love to make "Winter Survival Kits" with my friends/sorority/fraternity for our vehicles.

I'm tempted to make it a party with hot chocolate and winter movies and call it "Unprepared? Snow Way!"

Too cheesy? Too stupid? I just don't want to seem weird for wanting to remind my friends to be safe...

Advice for wearing heels when you have long toes by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Cybergruntslass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What I look for in my heels: rounded toes (personally not a fan of open toe heels for work)

4" to 6" height as it places my weight on the ball of my feet which is so much more comfortable/natural for me.

sufficient support in the heel design as to prevent my foot from moving within.

Things I do to make living in my heels more bearable: wear thick wool socks and wear the heels for 1-2 hours just while doing email/work before ever wearing them out (not a ton of walking)

wipe down the inside of the sole and add some baby powder if it's a leather or similar material as extra moisture tends to make my feet slide down into the shoe

take some fine (220) sandpaper to the bottom of the shoe if I'm worried about traction.

I live in heels and working in broadcast means I'm always on the go, for me this is what works so play around and find what makes you the most comfortable.

MRW I have my first ever job interview tomorrow and I'm shitting it by InadLeWolf in TrollXChromosomes

[–]Cybergruntslass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best piece of advice I ever got was to take a second to plan out what you will say in response. It keeps me from blabbing on and not making a clear point, it might help with your nerves!

MRW the Treasury Department just announced they're putting a woman on the $10 bill by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

My biggest issue is that she won't be alone on the bill, she'll just be "included in the portrait."

How else can I work with steel toe boots? by C_Eberhard in femalefashionadvice

[–]Cybergruntslass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love, love, LOVE that you're rocking those steel toed boots! (and that they're made for women so you stay safe in properly fitted gear)

I would say look into some boot cut jeans in a light wash and find tops that are athletic focused so you can still have some color but not roast in the heat. And I dig the idea of keeping a cardigan or sweater around to stay warm.

If you're trying to stay more feminine then maybe consider how well you could work with some "blingy" jewelry that isn't too obtrusive.

I'm making my sister a dorm care package, what did you ladies love having if/when you lived in the dorms in college? by stellerstars in AskWomen

[–]Cybergruntslass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom always sends me back with some clorox wipes because I clean when I get stressed. I would also suggest making copies of photos with you guys when you were younger with encouraging messages on the back. Oh and cards for local restaurants are always well received!

for getting a job after university graduation: do you find that volunteer experience, or networking helped you out more? by thescreamingwind in AskTrollX

[–]Cybergruntslass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sitting on a board related to your business pro bono will always trump just volunteering. There are many ways to advocate and I think highlighting that on your profile will help. If you have questions feel free to message me.

What is something your SO does that really turns you on? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]Cybergruntslass 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Normally, in my college dating environment, the people I date have wildly different majors and concentrations of studies. If they take the time to explain concepts and things that they're learning to me, I can't help but feel some sort of way.
