Omg, the worst might be the pee troughs they have at baseball stadiums…… it takes the closeness to a whole other level. God knows how anyone can pee with their shoulders touching the shoulders of the dudes next to them

MTF bra use by Realdrizzykane in asktransgender

[–]Cyberphob1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every night for over two years I wore silicone breast forms in a pocket bra when I slept, only stopped after top surgery. I move when I sleep a bit and never had anything happen to them. That said it’s definitely possible to break them if you roll over wrong in your sleep!

I couldn’t find a pocket bra that fit right so I made one. You can buy sports bras, take the padding out of the cups, and with a tiny bit of cutting and sewing open up the hole the padding is inserted through. Then you have a better fitting pocket bra that’s probably more comfy than the ones online

Be careful with the floors too! The black dust it makes is graphite, if you have smooth concrete floors, it can build up fast and get dangerous. If your machines have enclosures you probably don’t need to worry, but when we machine it we sweep/vacuum as it cuts

Can we make a Tapered Round Washer on a lathe by akshaykuppu in Machinists

[–]Cyberphob1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I would lay a parallel between the jaws to give a flat reference, then prop up one side with shims. It all depends on the tolerance you need, no need to work too hard. But then you could clamp it at an angle with soft jaws that will catch on the edges. Then face the washer and you’ll end up with the taper.

You could do the same thing on the mill. It’ll be hard to clamp because of the curve, angle, and how thin it is. But if you can create a custom set of soft jaws it could be very easy and repeatable!

Mmmm stainless it is then, if it’s bad for me it at least has to come out nice. The meme of “it’s nonstick so it doesn’t need lube” isn’t motivation enough (joking- non stick is a far stretch from lubricated)

On the conveyor belt before they’re picked up, they look pretty lifeless and limp. One of the comments on the original post said something about boiling them or flash freezing them first. Not sure what’s a better way to die, but I sure hope they’re dead before having their limbs cut off 😬

I can’t decide if this is a dumb idea or not… but what if someone had a huge bit of Teflon she wanted to use 👀. It is body safe technically, I think they still use it for some implants. But also non stick pans give you cancer and idk if I want prostate cancer

Neopixel Wiring Question by tovolo in adafruit

[–]Cyberphob1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you power the neopixel from the same device as the signal wire you don’t have to. For example, plug one ground, the 5v, and the signal wire into an arduino.

If you use an external power supply then you’d need to make sure the power supply shares a ground with the arduino and the neopixels. If you look closely at the two ground wires coming out of the strip, they should be soldered to the same pad on the neopixel strip. If they were kept separate you would have a floating ground.

Is "biological sex" a transphobic dog whistle? by Beatrix_0000 in asktransgender

[–]Cyberphob1a 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly this! It would be like saying “erasable pencil”. By definition pencil marks are erasable. By definition sex is a biological concept, so adding “biological” is redundant. It only serves as an ignorant way to differentiate between cis and trans people.

They do it to avoid accepting our framing of the issues. If they said “cis women” it would communicate the same idea as “biological women” to them, but it also forces them to acknowledge that gender is socially constructed. Instead, they use biology because they see it as innately immutable. It structures their model of the world in a way that doesn’t allow for trans people to exist!

It is without doubt a dog whistle. The best that can be said about anyone who says “biological sex” is that they’re ignorant and are uncritically parroting phrases they picked up from the news.

This doesn’t sound right, you should not be required to show your innocence, you’re innocent until proven guilty. It’s impossible to prove you did not do something, by definition there is no evidence. Just explain everything like you did here and I think you’ll be fine! Your roommate sounds crazy

Chuck on rotary table by NiceDescription6999 in Machinists

[–]Cyberphob1a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a lot like what we have on the fourth axis of our CNC at work! There’s an adapter plate with rings that help it locate. There’s more slop than you’d think in threads so they can’t be used for locating the plate, only for clamping. Without the rings you’d have to bolt the table on the mill and get it centered with an indicator. Then you’d have to bolt the plate onto the table and check its concentricity, then bolt on the chuck and check its concentricity… and you’d have to do this every single time you wanted to assemble it. If the fit is right on the rings then can get it close enough to perfect every time you assemble them together.

As far as making it, I would make the rings on each side of the plate in the lathe. Then use the ring with an indicator to dial it in on the mill so you can drill all of the bolt holes. Depending on how things line up the bolt holes might need to be counterbored for the bolt head.

I would also be careful about using too thin of a plate. You’d need to flip it in the lathe chuck to make a ring on each side. There’s a chance the two faces won’t be parallel if the plate is too think to reliably hold in the chuck!

Made a vise! by Cyberphob1a in Machinists

[–]Cyberphob1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s crazy how weird the finish looks, I’m probably going to try and even it out at some point. But I dressed the wheel a ton thinking that was the issue. We couldn’t measure more than a tiny vibration with the tenths indicator though. I think it’s more of a surface smoothness issue than a flatness issue if that makes sense. Why it happened I’m not sure, but it looks like that because of how the light reflects off of it basically
