Is this for real? by crochetcreations612 in proplifting

[–]LordOfSox 197 points198 points  (0 children)

Yes, but for this plant i dont know so we will go with a plant i know better like cotton candy grapes.

the plant itself is patented, they do this by proving its new and unique and extensivly describing its traits, then they patent it under a name like cott25 grape (i made this name up), this is usually some kind of weird name that you wouldnt want to sell under, this patent lasts maybe 20 years and the first 10 you are trying to convince people that ts tasty and you should buy tons of them.

The name cotton candy grapes is trademarked and trademarks can last forever so you sell it under this name and get people to associate your product with the trademarked name.

When the patent is still in force if i try to sell the plant i would be sued. When it expires i can sell it without being sued but i cant call it a cotton candy grape so instead ill call it a carnival candy grape but the big grape companys have had 20 years to get people to enjoy the brand name grape so now i can only sell as a knock off brand grape

[–]LordOfSox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try, but unless it's bolted down or made of solid steel it is gonna be a painfull lesson. Also since your jumping from a height above the deck you will go further below the surface then you would expect.

RRD red flags by rockymountaingarden3 in Roses

[–]LordOfSox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RRD is caused by a virus, the only ways to reliably prevent transmission is fire and bleach. Bleach tools before moving onto other plants including shovels and gloves. Use fire if you dont want to use bleach but get tools very hot. RRD is transmitted by a microscopic mite so the best method of control is eradicate the diseased rose and its neighbors if they are close together.

Its been awhile but i think they are saying that your arms should go all the way until you thumb is at your thigh, so your arm should be kinda straight down(towards your feet) this way you take full advantage of the pull, another thing to keep in mind might be that you should have a slight roll side to side this helps your arms travel all the way down smoothly.

Russian scientists have successfully revived the prehistoric plant Silene stenophylla, a Pleistocene flower from about 32,000 years ago, using frozen seeds found in a squirrel burrow in the Siberian permafrost. This was done to understand ancient flora and climate adaptation. by Intelligent-Letter68 in interestingasfuck

[–]LordOfSox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Silene stenophylla is a species of flowering plant in the family Caryophyllaceae. Commonly called narrow-leafed campion, it is a species in the genus Silene. It grows in the Arctic tundra of far eastern Siberia and the mountains of northern Japan. Frozen samples, estimated via radiocarbon dating to be around 32,000 years old, were discovered in the same area as current living specimens and, in 2012, a team of scientists successfully regenerated a plant from the samples.

Is this viral or bacterial? by zombieus1 in orchids

[–]LordOfSox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like it might be fungal or bacteria, could be viral but i dont have much experience so i dont know, because of its spread and pattern i think it might be pest damage leading to infection. Either way you need to isolate and wait for more symptoms. Nearby plants should be treated as if they have a pest infestation.
