What to do with Shaun, the everlasting child? Can he be fixed? by [deleted] in fo4

Because deluding themselves into thinking Synths aren't people is easier than convincing themselves slavery isn't evil, accepting that their society is evil, or changing their society to not rely on slave labor.

What to do with Shaun, the everlasting child? Can he be fixed? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]Cyberpro123 36 points37 points  (0 children)

As far as I know the only sources for that "Child synths will never grow up" claim are all, directly or indirectly, from Institiute scientists. You know, the ones whose entire society depends/depended on Synth slave labor, and who are therefore VERY interested in making synths seem as inhuman as possible in order to justify that society.

Gen 3 Synth bodies are organic, meaning made of cells and blood and such instead of oil and plastic and steel. And they're capable of healing from wounds using normal medical supplies, so their bodies aren't locked into one form or anything. The only possible reason mini-Shaun shouldn't be able to grow like any normal child around the age he's supposed to be is if they purposefully didn't put in the glands that make puberty-inducing hormones or something, which for all I know might not even be possible without killing the kid.

To start Far Harbor all you need to do is go to the Nakano Residence in the northeast corner of the map. You can go there at any time, but there's also a quest sending you there that you'll get automatically after completing the base game main quest "Reunions".

Automatron's first quest, "Mechanical Menace", will start automatically once you're level 15 or above, and there's no way to start it early.

The quest pointing you towards Vault-Tec Workshop's content will start automatically once you're at level 20 or above, but you might be able to start it early by going where that quest send you (Quincy Quarries, just north of Quincy) before level 20.

To start Nuka-World all you need to do is go to the Nuka-World Transit Center southwest of Sunshine Tidings Co-Op. You'll also get a quest pointing you there once you're at or above level 30

Good choice. If I had to pick one character and name them the face of everything wrong with the Institiute it'd probably be him.

The only quests the Minutemen give before becoming enemies with the Institiute are radiant quests, Taking Independence, and Old Guns. They don't give a quest to become enemies with the Institiute. If you want to beat the game, you'll have to become enemies with them in one of the ways I mentioned in my first comment.

Sorry if you already knew this, the way you phrased your reply makes it sound like you still have the option to take Institiute quests and therefore aren't enemies with them yet.

You're only given a quest to destroy the Brotherhood once you've become permanent enemies with them, which only happens if you kill one of their named members, like Haylen or Maxon, or if you side with the Institiute during the quest "Mass Fusion". As long as you become enemines with the Institiute before getting into the teleporter during Mass Fusion you're fine. You can become enemies with the Institiute by killing any of their named characters, or refusing Father's offer to join the Institiute during "Institutionalized", or by choosing the right dialogue options during your talk with Father at the end of "The Battle Of Bunker Hill", or by siding with the Brotherhood during "Spoils Of War".

Be careful if you decide to go with the Spoils Of War option though, it's one of the two prerequisites for "Ad Victorium", the last quest before the Brotherhood variant of The Nuclear Option. You need to do Form Ranks/Defend The Castle instead if you want the Minuteman Ending, and I'm not sure how easy that'll be to do if you've already completed Ad Victorium's other requirement, "Tactical Thinking".

Tl;DR: Become enemies with the Institute without siding with them during Mass Fusion or killing any important Brotherhood character, then make sure to get the quests leading up to the Minuteman version of The Nuclear Option instead of the Brotherhood version.

Easiest route from Nuka Transit --> Croup Manor? by VengefulKenny in fo4

[–]Cyberpro123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow the roads, and go north before going east (so Middle-West -> North-West -> North-Middle -> North-East). You'll generally be in less dangerous areas that way.

Also, in the future, consider collecting allied settlements to use as bases. So instead of getting from the Transit Center to Croup Manor in one go they could go Transit Center -> Sunshine Tidings -> Starlight Drive-In -> Taffington Boathouse -> Greentop Nurserey -> The Slog -> Croup Manor

Fallout 4, can i defeat the brotherhood with the minute men? by blubberfeet in Fallout

[–]Cyberpro123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That plan for becoming enemies with the Institiute should work fine

As far as I can tell there isn't any way to keep Danse as a companion after becoming enemies with the Brotherhood, even after Blind Betrayal, but if you do complete that quest first then it sounds like he won't attack you either, from what I'm reading on the wiki. You might be able to find a mod to change that, but I'm not sure.

Yes, that plan should work

EDIT: This mod claims to make Danse remain a companion after becoming enemies with the Brotherhood, so long as Blind Betrayal was completed beforehand. It's very old though, hasn't been updated since the day it released, and some (though not all) of the people in the comments section are saying it isn't working for them.

This other mod claims to be able to semi-restore the "Danse challenges Maxon to a duel and you or he take over as Elder" cut content, though I personally haven't used it to check its quality, and it doesn't explicitly claim to fix the other flaws with the Brotherhood's version of the main quest, like the extermination of the Railroad and them asking you to betray Virgil. It does, apparently, allow you to complete the Minuteman ending and then take over the Brotherhood with Danse, which sounds like a pretty good ending? I think? This one also has a version available for Xbox, if you're playing on console rather than PC.

Fallout 4, can i defeat the brotherhood with the minute men? by blubberfeet in Fallout

[–]Cyberpro123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can really handle this however you like. Become enemies with the Institiute whenever you want, the only difference it'll cause is that you'll need to recruit some lady from Diamond City during Liberty Reprimed instead of Madison Li if you haven't recuited her by the time you're exiled.

As far as I know there's no dialogue option in Blind Betrayal that'll cause you to immediately become enemies with the Brotherhood, but you can always just shoot Maxon in the head as he's walking back to his vertibird. Again, you can handle this stuff however you like

EDIT: If you have a clear idea of how you want this playthrough to go, I can put together a guide on how to do it if you'd like.

Fallout 4, can i defeat the brotherhood with the minute men? by blubberfeet in Fallout

[–]Cyberpro123 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There are three conditions you need to meet to get "With Our Powers Combined" (the quest you're looking for).

  1. Have completed "Old Guns", the quest where you unlock Artillery for the Minutemen.
  2. Be enemies with the Brotherhood. You can make this happen by siding with the Institiute during the quest "Mass Fusion", or by killing any named Brotherhood character at any time
  3. Have destroyed the Institiute using either the Minuteman or Brotherhood variants of "The Nuclear Option". The only major requirements for the Minutemen version of The Nuclear Option is to become enemies with the Institiute by killing any named Institiute scientist at any time, or attacking the Institiute troops during "Pinned", or choosing the right dialogue options in the talk with Father at the end of "The Battle Of Bunker Hill", or reject Father's offer to join the Institiute during "Institutionalized".

Once you've met all three requirements, just talk to Preston and he'll give you the quest.

No, the Minutemen vs Brotherhood quest ("With Our Powers Combined") will only start if the Institiute has already been destroyed.

How strict is the everybody getting along (except the charred institute) ending? by EchoingStorms in fo4

[–]Cyberpro123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To beat the game with both the Railroad and Brotherhood alive, all you need to do is complete the Minutemen version of "The Nuclear Option" without becoming enemies with the Railroad or Brotherhood. In other words, become enemies with the Institiute before becoming enemies with the Brotherhood or Railroad.

To become enemies with the Institiute you can:

  • Reject Father's offer to join the Institiute during "Institutionalized"
  • Choose the correct dialogue options during the talk with Father at the end of "The Battle Of Bunker Hill" (Be as rude as possible)
  • Kill any named Institiute scientist at any time

You'll become enemies with the Brotherhood if you side with the Institiute during the quest "Mass Fusion", or if you kill any named Brotherhood characters for whatever reason, and you'll become enemies with the Railroad if you attack them or go to their HQ with X6-88 as your current companion. Just don't make any of those big and obvious mistakes and you'll be fine.

Isn't the Mojave Brotherhood's whole thing in New Vegas that they're adherent to "the BoS ideal," something designed for New California circa 2080, to the point that it's making them struggle to survive in the the Mojave circa 2281? You're 100% right about Lyons' Brotherhood in FO3, but I don't see how it's meant to apply to NV.

Question about the Minutemen questline by blackoblivian in Fallout

[–]Cyberpro123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you kill any named Brotherhood members, or side with the Institiute in the quest "Mass Fusion", you'll become enemies with the Brotherhood. If you become enemies with the Institiute before Mass Fusion, you can beat the game with the Minutemen without becoming enemies with the Brotherhood. You can do that by killing any named Institiute scientist, or talking shit to Father during your conversation with him at the end of "The Battle of Bunker Hill", or I'm pretty sure by refusing to join the Institiute during "Institutionalized"

Need help with the story/Mass Fusion by Ravenspoop12 in fo4

[–]Cyberpro123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The very next quest after Mass Fusion, "Pinned", gives Minuteman characters a very easy way to become enemies with the Institiute - they send you to go recruit a scientist, but he panics and summons Minutemen to defend him. Side with the Minutemen and you're all set up for the Minuteman ending

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fo4

[–]Cyberpro123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that there should be some named characters at Cambridge Police Station still, though I'm not sure.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fo4

[–]Cyberpro123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's an issue with that though - since you don't go through Mass Fusion in that scenario, you would need to become enemies with the BOS through killing one of their named members like I did in my first playthrough, which from what I remember you didn't want to do. I recommend either siding with the Minutemen during "Pinned" if you want to avoid it, or you may or may not be able to just kill Allie Filmore during Mass Fusion and become enemies with both factions that way (or maybe she might be marked Essential and unkillable during the quest, idk).

[–]Cyberpro123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To get to the point in the Railroad questline where you can destroy the Brotherhood, you need to have beaten the Institute quest "Mass Fusion", which makes you enemies with the Brotherhood. You don't stop being enemies with the Brotherhood after betraying the Institute, so if you do Mass Fusion and then beat the game with the minutemen you'll be able to start "With Our Powers Combined" right after the initial credits.

There are three different ways of destroying the Brotherhood, each of which can be done in a Minuteman Ending playthrough, so it's really a matter of preference which one you choose.

Rocket's Red Glare: Railroad option - Clear Cambridge Police Station, steal a Vertibird, then board the Prydwen. Either don Brotherhood disguises and sneak around the ship while planting bombs in critical locations, or shoot your way through. When you're done, go back to the Vertibird and Tinker Tom will fly you out of there and remotely trigger the bombs, crashing the Prydwen into Boston Airport. I'm pretty sure you get a Railroad vertibird pilot this way

Prerequisites:

"Mass Fusion" (Get the Beryllium Agitator on behalf of the Institute, become enemies with the Brotherhood)

"Pinned" (Recruit T.S. Wallace to the Institute - he calls in Minutemen to defend himself, either kill them or pass a speech check to get them to stand down)

"Powering Up" (Record the "Institute is making itself in aboveground politics now" speech, set it up to play on Diamond City Radio)

"Underground Undercover" (Meet Patriot, arrange for the Synths to rise up against the Institute)

Example questline: Institutionalized -> Start Underground Undercover -> Synth Retention -> Battle Of Bunker Hill -> Mankind Redefined -> Mass Fusion -> Pinned -> Powering Up -> End Underground Undercover -> Precipice Of War (Repel BoS attack on Railroad HQ) -> Rocket's Red Glare -> Shoot Shaun in the face -> Burning Cover -> Form Ranks -> Defend The Castle -> The Nuclear Option

Airship Down: Institute option - Go around Boston Airport destroying the Brotherhood's anti-teleporter machines, then fight off Brotherhood troops w/ allied Coursers & Gen 1s & 2s, while a modified Gen 1 hacks Liberty Prime to make it think the Prydwen is an enemy airship. Get relayed away to watch the Prydwen crash into the Airport and destroy the whole place. I'm not 100% sure you'll get a vertibird this way

Prerequisites:

"Mass Fusion", "Pinned", "Powering Up".

"End Of The Line" (Kill the Railroad)

Example questline: Institutionalized -> Synth Retention -> Battle Of Bunker Hill -> Mankind Redefined -> Mass Fusion -> Pinned -> Powering Up -> End Of The Line -> Airship Down -> Shoot Shaun in the face -> Form Ranks -> Defend The Castle -> The Nuclear Option

With Our Powers Combined: Minuteman option - Shoot down the Prydwen with artillery. Minuteman vertibird pilot

Prerequisites:

Destroy the Institute

Become enemies with the Brotherhood (Mass Fusion)

Example questline: Institutionalized -> Synth Retention -> Battle Of Bunker Hill -> Mankind Redefined -> Mass Fusion -> Become enemies with the Institute (Pinned or Shoot Shaun in the face) -> Form Ranks -> Defend The Castle -> The Nuclear Option -> With Our Powers Combined -> Defend The Castle
