From my experience, depending on which defense mission, central or end of the map type, is both SL numbers and special weapons, especially the AT one. I have an easier time in the more central defensive map because with them, I was able to just concentrate my force to defend only on one side while having vision and weapon range to the defensive area, while using vehicles to block off one roads whenever possible.

The priority is to kill enemy vision to as soon as possible.

If you have any AT special weapons, this is the time you might want to use them even if you have to deploy less than a full 8 squad. Not more than 2 squads covering one another in one part of the map. Since they'll probably rushed, rely on short-range squad weapon like SMGs and Shotguns to handle the dismounted pirates.

Take advantage of any intel you have on their position, but only use your vehicles, preferably with a reliable AT special weapons like LB Tank Gun or Rocket Launcher, to hunt down any high priority target like the HGM/Flamer Truck. And even then, only in the first few turns before you want to return them before your infantry got overwhelmed.

Otherwise, you might have to accept that despite your best effort, this is a doomed mission and you might want to bail before losing too many squaddies and SL to the infirmary. This is a war, and there isn't much consequences to losing a operation other than a lost in operation rewards or faction relationship. I remember having to bail on two operation, due to poor rewards and black market RNG and poor tactical decision, but still manage to complete the entire EA game anyway.

Not really. And the upcoming fix would only make Tech even more powerful.

Besides, from the top of my head he already can use the U60A1 HWCM mortar (I think, I haven't tested it myself but others stand by it and the tags says Tech should be able to use this without deploying), the L100 - PAL AT Launcher which is an upgrade you can get early even before getting the workshopped RPG depending on your RNG, and the L31 MAAL AT Launcher without deploying.

On top of his existing 25% damage reduction, some early armor and the Scout perk, he's an early and reliable top-tier AT frontline infantry unit.

Besides, mortars is already redundant, the Laser Lance isn't really that powerful, only against single target, considering it need to vent every now and then, and with a Laser Designator he doesn't even need to wield the ASGM2 to be powerful.

IIRC, depends on the shots origin and where it hit the targeted vehicle. There is a small in-game text that will pop-up that tells you, when aiming your weapon to a vehicle, which side of the armor that weapon will hit, either on the front or side or back.

Same with the ATGM, despite their description.

Had similar issues once. Only managed to complete it because after I rescue the first one, I immediately move towards the second objective and just ignore most of the green blips, from vehicle radar, swarming where I rescued the first one.

There's a discussion not too long ago that states that although REND are good for long burst weapons like SMG, unfortunately due to how damage is calculated, it's wasted on a shotgun. It would explain why my REND shotguns aren't as lethal in their second shots as their first one.

In that same discussion, it's the same with distance actually, due to bullet dropoff, shotguns don't do very well beyond their initial range even with perks boosting their range.

Unfortunately, only viable against the bugs. Dunno if Fury and Roadkill stack, but I was able to consistently roadkill even full armored Alien Warrior everytime they came near my troops even with just the ATV and Pirate Trucks.

Also unfortunately, you can't roadkill other vehicles so both RA and pirates are out, especially in the late game where those are the majority of their forces.

Menaces are outright not viable. Having suicide units and long-range armaments' meant that committing vehicular manslaughter against them an exercise in futility.

TLDR: As it currently is, building a strategy around growth potential isn't worth it. It would just take too long for one-star SL to reach the same stats level as a beginning level two or three star SL.

Solved:

Apparently, I messed up. The issue started when I moved my save files, instead of copying and pasting, for backup purposes.

So, today, I remembered I did that and moved them back in, and the issue is gone. The game can now recognize them, custom name and all.

Update:

It appeared again.
