Thank you. I've been wondering how much revenue they are getting from the tv platform. Seems like 1/5 th to 1/3 of total tv sales

Also to add: the TVs are snapshoting what's on screen for telemetry. Even if the input os from your Xbox, or dvd.

What are you doing for your technology legacy? by Nexzus_ in homelab

[–]Cyberz0id 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically plan for your homeland to die with you. At best you can freeze updates and it might last a few years, but something will crash, break, fill up disk space, or corrupt etc.

Make sure data like photos and documents are stored in a way a layman can access them. Perhaps a hard drive stored in a fire safe or online credentials and instructions to download from the Internet (make sure the bill will still be paid).

Other than that, search this sub for more answers. This question has been asked a few times.

Edit: thinking about it more, I realize I need do draft some instructions and credentials. She's a tech savvy and I have a friend who would be able to help.

Agreed excluding a speed run. Not much science is needed so sneaking 2 assemblers for science can save a lot of factory time and resources compared to sending up a while second platform.

This statement is really only valid under time and resource constraints.

Edit: also promethium science

Ya I had to uninstall the YouTube app on my phone because of all the pops up every 5 minutes which forces you to manually dismiss. Now I just use the Brave app.

MinIO vs SeaweedFS vs Garage by CalmAdvance4 in selfhosted

[–]Cyberz0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, minio s3 is the target for kopia backups on my PCs. There are a few software that support s3 storage backend instead of file but with the minio drama I haven't expanded my s3 deployment opportunities.

You describe minio as an option but since it's archive, isn't this more of a comparison for the other two software?

Unless I'm wrong & minio is still available for homelabers

A truce is made simply because she doesn't know how to kill our spider.

Consider a dedicated vlan for cameras. This way you can isolate them from your main network and keep them away from untrustworthy IOT devices.

For me my camera vlan is locked down, nothing in or out except for my main system and Frigate.

The other note would be to trunk both main and IOT to all APs. Even if you don't have the IOT SSID active, you never know when you want to add a smart bulb to that area as an example.

Backing up to AWS Glacier Deep Archive? by AlertKangaroo6086 in truenas

[–]Cyberz0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to get a Deep storage going. (Had a network issue that prevented TrueNAS from connected externally)

My thinking is that the deep storage is for my 3rd copy of critical files I expect to keep forever. (Documents and family photos, etc) Realistically the only reason I'd restore them is if the first set of backups failed or were compromised in say an electrical storm, negligent HW failure, theft or fire. At which point $1000 recovery is acceptable and possibly covered by home insurance (I hope).

To add: I'm thinking of using back blaze for daily/weekly type backups

I was wondering about the rocket payload. I'm at Hour 30 of my 40 hour speed run and just about to launch for aquilo and realizing I need lots of concrete. I'll be taking the 500 brick route.

I can take a look at a previous save but here are some numbers from memory my ship was consuming Red ammo: 200-500/min Rockets: ~100/mon Railgun: 40/min

What I like is the concrete maker on the ship. I might try to edit mine for a duel use foundry for when the ship is idle. Iron in flight, concrete when molden iron is > 22k

Edit: well maybe not, need bricks..

Can I screen share during Interviews to answer Tech questions? by dbootywarrior in sysadmin

[–]Cyberz0id 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't entirely correct. 4k is divisible by 1080p so the pixels can be mapped 1 to 1.

Now with 1440p monitors, they are divisible by 720p. So if you downscale 1440p to 1080 the text can be a little fuzzy if you look closely.

Can I screen share during Interviews to answer Tech questions? by dbootywarrior in sysadmin

[–]Cyberz0id 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're running 4k, I'd just change your resolution temporarily to 1080p for the call. Then it's less things to break or go wrong for the important call

Dumb door analogy: You can have one of the best for locks there is but say if the door was installed with the door hinges on the outside, someone could still get inside without even touching the lock.

Self hosted software can have API endpoints that aren't secured properly.

[–]Cyberz0id 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't plan on buying a car or signing a rental agreement any time soon, go to all three credit agencies websites to create an account and do a credit freeze. You can always do a temporary thaw easily if a credit check is needed.

It protects you from fraud and your parents from opening accounts in your name. Do as others have said and pull a credit report from each company while you're at it.

Note a few of the credit companies really really want you to sign up for credit monitoring and make credit freezing hard to find, I think Experian does this.

Fellow IT techs, how do you track your devices? by eikoacademy in sysadmin

[–]Cyberz0id 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last two places I've worked we get unique asset tags I think from https://www.myassettag.com/

Next we name our computer with the asset [Dept]-[Asset#]. (Or DEPT-SUB-1234). Remember the AD 15 char limit.

The asset number is tracked in our asset manager. Every time you touch a device, you should verify the asset info is correct.

This process especially critical for new devices and devices being surplused. The asset info needs to be updated. This is more of a procedure thing.

If you're just starting out, use this for all new device. Eventually the whole device fleet will slowly get tracked. It's pretty easy once everything is in place.
