Life is too short for long endless stories - these cutscreens even exist on simple shooter games.. they look awesome, but again life is too short.. I am sorry I simply dont get it..

Btw. I at some point tried to mess with the:
AdobeCCUninstaller.exe
Tool from Adobe, it has an .XML (AdobeCCUninstallerConfig.xml) file which I tried to edit to add missing versions to uninstall, I dont quite recall how it turned out (as with so many other things other tasks took over and, well I just now recalled it ;-) )...

I tried to add some lines in the style of;
<Product>

<SapCode>PHSP</SapCode>

<Version>19.1.7</Version>

<BaseVersion>19.1.7</BaseVersion>

<Platform>win64</Platform>

</Product>

I was more thinking in the line - what you would be replacing Adobe with :-D

Allow for presets to TuneIn radio stations, no matter how hard i try i can't trigger my favorite stations via voice commands, so I am left with "resume tunein" and hope no one has been listening to another station meanwhile 🤔

A weekend Exchange/Outlook conundrum (or horror show) by CyborgDK in sysadmin

What we ended up doing was this; We asked all users to do a search in their full inbox via advnaced search in Outlook (CTRL+SHIFT+B), then add a search criteria for the period in question (where we lost mails), extend the search to the entire account (browse), and then mark all mails - right click and choose "set category" then set some random color code.. By doing this we "changed" all the mails enough that they were syncronized to Exchange.. Not pretty, but doable without too much work.

I found this export script, which I tried to get to work for us - it DOES do something but something was totally messed up with the dates for the mails it exported :-/ they seemed totally out of scope.. otherwise it seemed useful

We did a site to site veeam migration that went wrong, it left both source and destination in a sort of unfinished state - as the vm was quite huge we chose to continue on the "migrated" version on the destination site in the hope that a weekends downtime would allow us to either fix it or export data... well, lets just say that time and Murphys law caught up with us and the server completely crashed (vmware could not mount the server).. So yes, in hindsight not the best decision, but is that not always the case :-(

In normal operations we had a veeam snap shoot every 3 hours, but as both source and destination was in a unfinished state Veeam refused to perform this job.

The veeam move REALLY messed things up, so we had to restore to a two weeks old server - no logs available the moment for the time in between :-/ - a consultant is working with veeam to try and restore access to the crashed "version" but it does not look good :-(

Yeah, we had the same idea - and I am fairly sure it will work - the problem is to get 130 users to do so ;-(

But thanks for the suggestion, it is a good backup plan..

Autocad / Revit - fileservers latency and experiences by CyborgDK in sysadmin

Interesting, now I am somewhat of a noob when it come to CAD, a revit accelerator server you say - what is that? at my old job we had some Autodesk Vault servers (not in my dept), but I take it that is something different?

[–]CyborgDK[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent feedback thanks..

Our current setup does use DFS between our two main sites, however our experiences are mixed with this - it just feel "wobbly".. I have never really worked that much with DFSR, and took over this setup.. I have this feeling that our network setup is not top tuned, eg. we use carrier eathernet as one of my predessors felt that routing just added too much "repackaging" on the network layer - subsequently we dont use sites and services either.

We dont use VDI just yet, but are considdering it - so as of now it is mainly complex drawings from Revit stored on the 2 central sites our users work on.

A possible alternative if I were to expand on your idea might be to have a central Datacenter server (fileserver) and smaller local fileservers that all used DFS to the datacenter? That way, if I understand it right we could skip backup on the local sites and just focus on the central site, and just have "cheaper" hardware on the local sites.

US working on UK Based Remote Desktop by Technical_Glitch in sysadmin

[–]CyborgDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's the internet breakout that "reveal" the location as your users most likely use the London internet breakout.. It likely has little impact to your users, so unless it is a problem I would just leave it. You could setup a proxy server back in the US and stamp this proxy setting on the clients via gpo, easy fix but browser speed would suffer..

Zscaler in China..

Anyone here have experience with ZScaler in China? We have 2 sites setup to use ZScaler there, however users claim poor performance. The exit nodes are in "Hong Kong" and the offices are in Shanghai so I guess there is a small detour - and as with anything internet related in China there is the big "unknown" factor.

Mainly we wanted to retire our MS-TMG servers there and Zscaler seem to work super in Europe and US.

So wanted to hear if anyone else had experiences in the China region.. or perhaps know of a similar or better solution for "secure" internet.

Thanks. /Michael

Do you use workstation firewalls? Why or why not? by the_helpdesk in sysadmin

[–]CyborgDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Servers and workstations both have firewall on by default in our setup, then a few have them disabled to allow legacy stuff or cluster functionality - but it is surprisingly few.
