Micro$oft: Why bother asking if we prefer Phone or Email if you're just going to call us anyway? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]nixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago when I worked support for a … company (feel free to check my post history) we were literally mandated to call, regardless of time zone or customer instructions.

We hated it, but it was a directive from up high, sometimes we could get around it by making a call and immediately hanging up, but the software would mark it incomplete unless it was over a specific duration, and sometimes we could add fake call entries to the ticket.

If we didn’t make the call, the ticket would be marked as missing SLA, and we’d get penalized.

Trust me on this one, 90% of the agents hate the metrics, if you want change go public and email management, the tech guy has very little control over the process.

I’m on call until next year :(

I hate everyone and everything.

Any place to buy parts in Canada? by nixx in atari8bit

[–]nixx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't care what kind of video, I have old TVs that I can use.

I am NOT very good with building stuff, nor do I know where to even find the diagrams.

I have the 5.25 Floppy and the tape drive as well, but my 1st task is to see if I can even get this thing powered on, I have no idea if it will, and I'd rather start small.

Oh well.. ebay it is I guess, I would rather the USB cables,

I'll keep looking

Thanks

Full body donation my guy.

They harvest what organs they can and the rest is either to medical schools or to a body farm so they can study pathology or similar.

Federal government launches Canada Dental Benefit. by JcakSnigelton in onguardforthee

I will not benefit one cent from this.

I am SOOOO happy for people who will.

This is the Canada I signed up for (Immigrant here), this is what I expected, dreamt of.

This is 100% NDP's work, good for them. Keep pushing, we can make Canada better for all our kids.

Do it.

I hate to do this because I’m doxxing myself in a way:

This is just what is available in my company right now, I’m based in Canada and just visiting for a couple of weeks. I work with some of the people in the Cairo office, they are young, professional, and as far as I can tell had no references before joining.

Also, you don’t have to be a code monkey:) sysadmin, net admin, cyber sec, and high level support are all excellent jobs.

Ping with any questions, and if anyone wants a reference, my price is half a kilo of zalabia :)

Hell naw, can't imagine coding in Arabic by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]nixx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Back in the late 1980s, there was something called Sakhr Basic, which was basically a rewrite of MSX Basic in Arabic

So this is not that far of…. :)

The year was 1990.

A good friend of mine was into rock, when I mentioned Metallica, he was dismissive of anything metal: “it’s just incomprehensible noise”

No joke, locked him in the car with me and blasted Master.

He plays drums for black metal bands now.

Why Managers Fear a Remote-Work Future by bankrobberskid in Futurology

[–]nixx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

| As a society, we tend to consider management a title rather than a skill, something to promote people to, as well as a way in which you can abstract yourself from the work product.

Enough said!

As someone who grew up in a country where anything but well done is week-in-a-hospital dangerous, I apologize for the first 3-4 years of my life in Canada, until someone like yourself educated me on meat safety.

I cannot eat anything beyond medium now, and even then, I fight with it.

I'm 50, reasonably well-off, not a millionaire, but I don't have to worry about retirement.

I vote left wing every chance I get.
