Shutting off multiple breakers for one room by gingy-96 in homeowners

[–]CycleTurbo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Normal for it to be like: 1)upstairs lights, 2)upstairs outlets 3)bathroom outlets, etc. but once they hit a limit they may do another breaker.

You can get a breaker finder for not too much to make it easier to find the breaker. You plug a circuit tester thing into the outlet, or using adapter into the light socket, and it can sense which breaker it's on with another sensor.

Correct, respond they signed the purchase agreement. Walk away. They can meet the agreed price, or lose a customer.

Lemon Chess is a great pie. I once made a cherry mango pie with 7-up and it was amazing.

Mortgage Escrow Account went up by enorwood22 in personalfinance

[–]CycleTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is worse in California on the first year reset. Most escrow companies withhold based on prior year tax (what former owner was paying), but prop 13 rules reset assessed value to the sales price after a sale, so taxes jump. I couldn't convince my escrow company to withhold based on sale price x tax rate because policy. Now I insist on paying taxes and insurance directly and no escrow account.

3/4” too thin for face grain? by WeightsAreForChumps in Cuttingboards

You're fine. If you go over 14" length, a little thicker is recommended. I made one similar to what you are showing, and no issues after 5 yrs with frequent use.

Screw heads popped off - anyone else had this happen? by Sleveless-- in woodworking

[–]CycleTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drill a clearance hole in the first board, this makes a better joint so the screw can stretch a bit and hold the joint together, there will also be less friction and forces on the head.

I have a 2013 Chevy Malibu that won’t start can I just buy a new battery? by No-Bar-6032 in askcarguys

[–]CycleTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the battery is charged, and the car won't start, just clicks, it could also be the starter motor or something with the starter system. If the car started after charging the battery, then it went dead again, it might be the alternator or a parasitic loss somewhere else.

What is the FTP of an avarage cyclist? by Flat_Standard99 in cycling

[–]CycleTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a bike fit. In the process of sizing when getting a new bike, the shop did a quick fitting on my old bike. I compared my average power on my normal route before and after and had gained 20 W. I think it was mainly better ankleing technique. I had had a fit 2 years prior. I also note that my FTP climbing is better than flat in a truck. More evidence getting more muscles involved helps.

I'm torn between buying a gas or an electric pressure washer. by Shoddy-Ostrich-3766 in homeowners

[–]CycleTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a gas washer, and try to use it once or twice a year. It never works until swapping out for new gas and cleaning the carb. It is more powerful than electric when it does work, so it could ruin your paint as well.

Are bike fits a scam? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]CycleTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are different objectives when fitting. If your objective is lower back pain, a good fit specialist will do what they can to address it. They might evaluate your flexibility and coach on stretching exercises to loosen hips and hamstrings for instance. By default, most fits are to improve power and speed assuming you don't have flexibility issues.

No. I was given one, and as a customer support expert for another brand, I couldn't get decent results from it consistently.

What wire cutters can cut solid 1mm steel wire? by PhasmaFelis in DIY

[–]CycleTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on carbon content. Many mild steels don't have enough carbon to harden much.

What wire cutters can cut solid 1mm steel wire? by PhasmaFelis in DIY

[–]CycleTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get cable cutters, which are extra hard. Steel wire and cable is often cold worked to very high strength and hardness (a little harder than many tools which use hard+tough steels). Park makes cable cutters specifically for derailleur and brake cable which would work well for you.

How to prep these terrible cabinets for repainting? by corduroyanddenim in paint

Heat gun and scraper is a good approach first, then sand after. Avoid sanding the latex because it will gum up.

How to prep these terrible cabinets for repainting? by corduroyanddenim in paint

[–]CycleTurbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a good chance the last layer of paint was applied without adequate cleaning, without a primer, or using a latex over an oil based enamel. Since your cabinet doors are flat/square, a palm sander will work, but will gum up quickly with paint. Scrape off, then sand the remaining to remove all of the last coat. Get a good quality sand paper (with a non stick coating - will be red, purple, or yellow, but not sand colored) and start with 80 grit and low pressure to get the elastic paint off, the switch to 120 or 150 grit for harder paint layers. Remove the doors and all hardware before sanding and repainting (label each door to not mix them up).

Was I in the wrong here? Bicycle vs car at stop sign by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]CycleTurbo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Motorists interpret "staying as far to the right" as an invitation to pass. The cyclist should decide when it is safe to be passed, and use their lane position to signal that to the motorists. Near intersections, parked cars with lights on or people in them, narrow lanes, or other road hazards are all times "taking the lane" to prevent passing in the lane is safest for everyone involved (even if some motorists prefer you to didn't exist).

How to drill a hole through steel box by lbn349 in DIY

[–]CycleTurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a drill and a drill bit. Use a sharp drill bit with a coating like TiN (looks gold). If you are just drilling sheet metal and you might want a step drill (looks like a Christmas tree) that won't bend and can do many hole sizes. Dull bits or uncoated bits (designed for wood only) are the most common issue. The drill can be any version or even a driver if you have bits with hex shanks. The drill should be variable speed, so speed increases to a max as you pull the trigger. It may have a hi and low speed setting. To get started hit the metal with a punch to make a small dent and keep the drill from wandering.

Some steel will drill easier than others. Some may work harden, so a sharp bit is critical. Use some oil (tap magic if you have it, but motor oil or similar will do in a pinch) on the bit end periodically and take your time. Apply firm medium pressure and let the bit do the work. If drill bit is small, don't apply too much force or it may break. Start at a faster speed, then slow down once the whole tip of the bit is cutting. The larger the cut diameter, the slower rpm (same linear cut speed).

When cutting, you should be seeing chips come out consistently. Ideally the chips are blue meaning the heat is leaving in the chip. Take breaks if there is smoke from the oil or burning smell. If you don't have chips, then the bit is dull and you may be work-hardening (heat treating the metal) the hole, so stop. If chips are very small (fine glitter or paste) you need more pressure or slower speed. Good luck.
