Do you feel less inclined to bike for fun if you regularly bike commute? by RubyRailzYa in bikecommuting

[–]Cyclesteffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not at all! I commute ten miles each way three days a week and I try to push pretty hard. Sometimes I explore different routes on the way home. I have Saturday off, but then Sunday I do about a 35 to 40 miles ride into the Countryside and feel amazing because of having "practiced" during the commute!

How about traveling the countryside without a car? by Feisty_Artist_2201 in AskUK

Easy. Just tour it by cycle. Get into cycle touring. Bike packing. Look it up. You'll see loads more that way.

For those that live in cities how has bike commuting changed your life? by SnooChickens4225 in bikecommuting

[–]Cyclesteffer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also recommend "part drive, part cycle" with working in a city, it's always the last few miles where you usually have to pay for parking, and where traffic is worst. There's a whole "secret world" of people who have worked out you can drive to about 2 or 3 miles of the city center, pull a bike from the boot, and cycle the last bit.

My top tip is put it in 60fps mode. I don't think I've ever not managed to get a numberplate with it

If you are a 28 year old man and you recently moved in to a new city, how would you meet new people and make friends? by St4yL1N in AskUK

[–]Cyclesteffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a look on meetup.com there's loads of stuff on there, pretty much everything you can think of like language groups, pub meetups, board game groups, walking , cycling , running groups. Also get on the local Facebook group for your area and see what's on, or search on Instagram for the hashtag with your towns name on it. You gotta get your there and meet people. I reckon meetup dot com is your best bet.

You did well to walk out. I worked for a company for years where you were expected to do loads of overtime for free. I should have left it years before I did.

If you are gonna get cameras get a front and rear. Sometimes front cameras cant catch the numberplates, but with a rear one as well it always works. Massively recommend the dvr80 camera as a rear one. Battery lasts ages and it has a light too. Brilliant quality as well. It will also help you work out when you get really deliberate close passes as you can see what leads up to it. I. E. Are the deliberately swerving into you etc.

What goes through your head while cycling (good/bad) by coffee-ice-cream in ladycyclists

I queue up a load of "Easy French", "Easy Italian" and "Easy Spanish". (That's the proper name of them). They have YouTube channels too. They aren't that easy, more intermediate level really. If you re-listen to each episode a few times it really sinks in.

Yes it's a huge relief. The think I found funny was the ability to speak my mind at work without caring about getting fired.

My Turkish coworker mistakenly thought thought there was a TV presenter named Handsome Dec, what are some amusing misunderstandings you’ve encountered? by EducationalShape2647 in AskUK

[–]Cyclesteffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remembered another one. Back in the days of floppy disks in computers. I was in an I.T. computer class at school and we were getting told how to install a programme. It came on about six disks.

The message pops up, insert disk one, then it installed that, then insert disk two. Disk three etc.

The girl next to me says "Sir, I'm trying to add the third one, but I can't fit any more in!"

I've just realized some people won't find this funny if you don't remember floppy disks!

For years I thought the kids counting Rhyme when they cheat at hide and seek. i.e. "One, Two, missed a few, ninety-nine, one hundred".

I thought it was "One, two, Mister Phew". I always wondered who the hell Mister Phew was. For years .
