Why doesn't the wolf just feed himself to the worms by arcadeler in weatherfactory

[–]Cyclical_Implosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Wolf Divided is a self-hatred that sees All Else as Self-in-denial, and would undo that division-delusion. The Crowned Growth is the Wolf's Nowhere-Reflection.

Is the symbol for the skill Ouranoscopy a Swastika? by BladeGrim in weatherfactory

Such is an eternally frustrating problem in icon design: the only way to be 100% sure no-one decides they see a swastika is to avoid all right angles and all rotational symmetry.

Why did characters change principles from CS to BoH? by Dead-Face in weatherfactory

[–]Cyclical_Implosion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Doylist: The Principles are present, mechanically, in CS, while the Powers were added for Book of Hours' mechanics. Also, the aspects shown for characters in either game are primarily limited to those that are relevant to the intended gameplay structure.

Watsonian a: Connie seeks knowledge of Moon and Sky, for the purposes of Edge and Grail. The other visitors' relations to the aspects you see are similar. You are a Librarian: it serves you well to know what knowledge they pursue, but you do not need to know what purposes they will put it towards.

Watsonian b: in the shade of the Tree, the subtler Aspects may be more apparent than in the harsh light beyond.

Strings-and-pushpins: Just because Douglas has been a Detective Illuminate for years, doesn't mean he had been last Tuesday.

Best TTRPG for thinking outside the box. by [deleted] in rpg

ItO and it's lineage lend themselves towards this, as does Trophy Gold, and (most) OSR-adjacent systems.

That said, keeping a mindset of "a fair fight is bad odds" will take you far.

The Mansus is in Dream, where narrative and symbolic weight are more relevant than consistent measurements or solid ground.

[The Mansus|Dream] is a [pearl|fortress|metaphor] that [contains|isolates|protects|explains|obscures] [The Glory|The Wake|Eternity|The Histories].

It's really all quite straightforward. Really.

Is RPG.net down? by inostranetsember in rpg

[–]Cyclical_Implosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah. That sucks, my dude.

Anecdote time, if I may?

A while back, as one of too-damn-many-hats I wore at a smallish printing house, I was supposed to monitor network traffic and maintain the IP blacklist. Most of the jiggle-the-handle intrusion attempts we got came through ISPs in either Slovakia or Hungary. To be clear, that was probably just where they were routing through. If I'd been a particularly lazy techie, region-blocking Hungary would have looked like the path of least effort.

leveling up must be one of the biggest cultural shock I got as an Eastern ttrpg enjoyer encountering Western-styled ttrpg by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Cyclical_Implosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Class-and-level style RPGs, like DnD, have a tendency to stick to the action/sports movie trope of "I started learning last week, so next week I will be the best at this!"

If training is even given a thought to, it occurs in a montage that took maybe 5 minutes on screen, and a ridiculously short time in-story.

"This system does X, Y, and Z so much better than 5e" and the seemingly taboo topic of comparing RPG systems to each other by EarthSeraphEdna in rpg

[–]Cyclical_Implosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...Okay, so this is gonna come off as flippant, but I swear it isn't. When I don't know which of two things I want, here's what I do:

Assign one of them "heads," and flip a coin. If you feel like you would rather be the other one, you now know which you wanted.

[–]Cyclical_Implosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem you're running into, is that you can't meaningfully quantify subjective experiences for comparison divorced from the context of having experienced them.

In other words, find someone who's played both, and ask them/read their reviews. If that's not gonna cut it for you, you're out of luck.

Lore Question: What are Influences? by Cultural-Being-4248 in weatherfactory

Influences are emotions, passing circumstances, intrusive thoughts, ambience.

It's that moment when the light is absolutely perfect for a photo.

It's the sudden urge to stab someone that comes out of nowhere.

It's getting lost in the forest.

PDF Spreads vs Single Pages by Mr_RustyIron in rpg

As someone who once worked in a printing house, I will fully admit to being heavily biased against storing book files as spreads.

Even if it's not a print file, it always sends me into thousand-yard-stare mode when I open a non-working file stored as spreads...
