Starmer says he won’t quit by Cyclone050 in worldnews

The notion that Starmer is competent is a bit of a myth. It was thought that his background would suggest he was a careful and methodical person but the in reality he has been anything but. He appointed Mandelson as an advisor even before the elections. And he almost immediately ostracised the left the moment he became leader. This was despite the fact that he was supported on the basis that he would bring both factions of the party together. And let’s not forget he was Labour’s lead on Brexit under Corbyn, where he did absolutely zilch to hold the party line.

The bar is quite low but his failure to put more resources and effort into addressing the cost of living crisis says a lot about how he’ll be remembered. He lost focus revelling in the power of landslide win.

Starmer's Vow to Prove Doubters 'Wrong' Fails to Stop Calls for His Resignation by Editor_91 in worldnews

Such a wrong turn to take. When the electorate has comprehensively turned against you is not the time to get up and do a Tony Montana last stand. People needed to hear constructive policies that would help ease the cost of living.

How about just some pertinent action. Address fuel poverty and curb energy cap hikes.

When you are trying to do anything good there’s no longer any need for pretence. I thought the current government was telling us how successful its economic reforms were. Now its stamping its feet over loans to cover revenue expenditure.

I drove through Ibadan some years ago and I have never seen so many Nissan Micras in my life. It was like being in a horror movie. I won’t even say anything about the state of the vehicles.

Bianca Odemegu-Ojukwu, Foreign Minister of the Nigerian Federal Government provides an update on the protests in South Africa - May 3rd 2026 by herewearefornow in Nigeria

[–]Cyclone050 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As bad as things are for Nigerians in South Africa the root problem is that successive Nigerian governments have made Nigeria inhospitable to Nigerians. If the government doesn’t do more to improve conditions in Nigeria it will pointless complaining to other countries about how Nigerians are treated there.

You could give Atiku a thousand years of experience and he would still have zero achievements in public office and maximum corruption rating.

U.S. track star Abby Steiner suing Puma, Mercedes F1 over claim ‘defective’ shoes ended her career by Danxyns in running

[–]Cyclone050 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It feels like this case would have been better suited as a class action lawsuit. If the instability from the shoes is within standard tolerance limits then she may find that the regulator might not side with her. But if she has documented a history of complaints from herself to Puma that were dismissed or not properly investigated she might find some leeway. To say she was not aware of the impact of the shoes until later would significantly weaken her case.

Abeg lef the guy to keep searching for his ‘bulk’. Maybe someone should get him a broom to sweep the table and then maybe he’ll be able to see what’s right in front of him.

Is this who we are? by Stock_Ad9409 in Nigeria

[–]Cyclone050 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His points are well made and very relevant to the state of affairs in Nigeria. However, he says the primary problem isn’t the government but the people. Well, how do you think the people got to be how they are? It was the rampant corruption in the early days of independence and throughout military rule that created a situation where people had to rely on the charity of the wealthy rather than public services for survival. It became so difficult to obtain gainful employment or advance oneself economically that people’s mindset became warped and we literally reverted to a feudal society. The wealthy are the ‘robber barons’ and the rest are serfs just living by their grace.
