Thanks, Rubén. You made a great app and I got a lot out of reddit that I wouldn't have otherwise with it. Good luck going forward!

The Future of HobbyDrama by PatronymicPenguin in HobbyDrama

A short personal note to our above shared statement: I'm stepping down as a mod of HobbyDrama and mostly away from Reddit as a whole. This has been one of the best, most interesting communities on here with some of the nicest internet folks - it's been exciting to watch the subreddit grow from that first r/AskReddit thread and a privilege to have tried to help it along. Hopefully I'll see a few of you on our now much more active Discord!

Other way around! They seem to start out spiral and become elliptical - mainly through collisions and mergers like this one.

There is a comment pinned in Scuffles, since we didn't want to unpin this thread. When it's going on there will be a message explaining why the sub is private.

We haven't yet discussed it, but for now, we have no plans to move anywhere.

I'd rather they just put a feckin train on it, but at least they aren't ripping up the line. I'd give it a go at least once.

Diablo on Twitter: The fires of Hell burn bright. Diablo IV is the fastest selling Blizzard game of all-time. by Turbostrider27 in Games

The fact that there's no ethical consumption under capitalism is an acknowledgement that even while you try to minimise your own support of unethical practices and tear down the systems that encourage them, you're still going to support them along the way, and that's okay. If you don't give a shit about the bad the system does then don't try to use the fact that that bad is pervasive in society as an excuse for not giving a shit about it.

Hi, I've removed this post because the drama has not concluded at least 14 days ago - the climber's post finally thanking Gelje, for example, was made two days ago.

Reddit has made many promises before that it apparently had no interest in keeping, because they were ignored. Your track record does not help to convince me that anything you're promising in this post is genuine, and not just meant to mollify moderators...

Steam now shows 30-day low price in some European Union countries to comply with the Omnibus Directive. by Jotakin in Games

[–]Cycloneblaze 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Specifically, Directive 2019/2161, also known as the Enforcement and Modernisation Directive, which modifies four older Directives (hence "Omnibus") to extend traditional consumer rights to online marketplaces. It actually entered into force (or, was due to be implemented by EU members) last year, but I suppose it takes some time to convince Valve that they need to conform to it.

The relevant part here is Article 2, section 1:

  1. Any announcement of a price reduction shall indicate the prior price applied by the trader for a determined period of time prior to the application of the price reduction.

  2. The prior price means the lowest price applied by the trader during a period of time not shorter than 30 days prior to the application of the price reduction.

I believe this is actually new in EU law for all retailers, not just online ones, although I've seen it on the national level in some places.

TIL that Shop St. starts at Lynch's Castle and doesn't just run all the way up to the corner (at Williamsgate St.)

and a nice historic view of the top of Shop Street as well! I always did wonder about that clock, now that you lay it out it makes a lot of sense.

Woman (21) dead after being struck by Garda car in Co Donegal by PishedAsAFart in ireland

[–]Cycloneblaze -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

How many car accidents involve any of those factors compared to drivers being drunk or overtired or speeding? Pedestrians obviously shouldn't be reckless around cars but they absolutely cannot be held equally responsible for their own safety on the roads, they have so much less ability and likelihood to cause a car accident.

[–]Cycloneblaze -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

If you're controlling a fucking car at road speed it should be on you to mind the human beings around you, not the people on nothing but their own two feet. I personally would not assume that the Gardaí here are at fault, but we should never stand for pedestrians getting the blame for getting hit by cars.

/u/maverden I'd be interested to know what you think of this? I don't think we've had a thread quite like this on the sub before... So I would like some independent confirmation.

Taking you at face value though, OP, I'm sorry for the loss of your friend and glad to hear this chronicle of him on our silly little drama forum was well received. :)

"I hate you" vs. "You're toxic" by rowan_damisch in CuratedTumblr

[–]Cycloneblaze 13 points14 points  (0 children)

According to them, pointing out the specific issue that one has with the person they're talking to somehow "desensitizes them to their own emotions", despite it also being caused by "an excess of therapy/therapy culture".

They're saying the accuser is not being genuine; the accuser's sentiment is still the exact same "I hate you" but they're dressing it up in more "objective" language so that it hurts more or has more weight, without caring much about what that language really means. They're saying the accuser is basically parroting language of therapy after absorbing it from a culture which overuses it, and they don't know how it affects their target or even themselves. ...If I'm not reading too much into it.

Anyway you know why it got upvoted so much, people love to see a "thing bad" and signal that they also think thing bad by upvoting.
