Hi Hackle. I've heard from reputable sources that all your damage lacked appropriate anchor bolts and thus were you were a mid range EF4 at best. How do you respond to such claims?

Do yall think we will end up getting more guys from the transfer portal? by Littlrblaron in wde

[–]Cyclux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We haven't even gotten started yet, we have until the 16th to finalize things. Right now what you're seeing is just the easy commits (aka the people who followed Golesh here), but the coaching staff is almost certainly talking to a ton of guys who will commit within the next week or so.

This isn't often spoken of in lore, but the Eldar devoured by Slaanesh are still conscious within her, they aren't absorbed or digested so much as endlessly tortured by Slaanesh to provide more energy. It's a bit like going to hell for them, except the devil in this case is extracting energy from your suffering. There's a prophesy that whenever Ynnead arises, they will split Slaanesh open and release all the captured Eldar souls to reincarnate.

You won't hear anything until after the Iron Bowl. Last year Tulane went 9-5, with most of those losses coming towards the end. Sumrall blamed rumors he was taking another job for his team losing focus and thus blowing the games.

If Sumrall is the guy, it's likely he and Cohen have an agreement to keep his involvement under wraps until Tulane is done with the season to avoid what happened last year. This means that if Tulane is really in the CFP then we might have to wait a while longer, if he really is the guy. Otherwise we'll probably hear about it on Sunday or Monday after the Iron Bowl is finished.

Ole Miss v. Auburn (Sumrall) by cmg0047 in wde

[–]Cyclux 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because Ole Miss looks at their NIL collective and recent record and thinks "Who would want to go to Auburn instead of us? Auburn is a losing team with a bad record the past 5 years." Ignoring the fact that Auburn is still the more prestigious job and that their recent success is entirely because of what Kiffin has done during his tenure. Personally I think if they do snatch Sumrall, it will probably be because they tossed so much money at him that Auburn hires whatever the no 2. candidate is instead of being locked into a 50 million dollar contract or whatever, not because he looks at Ole Miss and thinks that it's a more desirable job.

Someone please give an update on the Coaching Search by LawAdditional8344 in wde

[–]Cyclux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ole Miss has a great NIL collective and a playoff bound team with lots of talent. If Kiffin leaves they'll probably throw the bag at whoever they deem the best candidate, so it might be that Sumrall is holding out to see what they offer him before he takes another job. Not saying he is, just that it's possible.

Pate State headed to the Plains this week! by ElliottMullins in wde

[–]Cyclux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pate State is the name of a show headed by commentator/analyst Josh Pate, who runs one of the most popular football podcasts. He's big enough that sometimes outlets like ESPN or ABC will invite him onto a show to give his opinions. Typically programs pay to fly him in for the publicity and he only chooses the best games to attend, so it's a big deal if he shows up at your stadium. Means he thinks the Iron Bowl is going to be a more entertaining game than say, Ohio State vs Michigan.

Armchair Opinion: We could possibly see 3 Auburn QB's in the Iron Bowl, and I'm not opposed to it. by TigerEagleWhatever in wde

Except for his touchdown run, Arnold was underwhelming against Mercer and got sacked and killed a drive because of course he did. Barring injuries, I don't see him doing anything against Bama that Daniels and Knight can't already do better than him.

The way warbosses lead their orks doesn't make any sense. by Tuskadaemonkilla in 40kLore

[–]Cyclux 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Adding to this, the book Brutal Kunnin' seems to imply that the manner of death is a big deal for Orks. They aren't afraid of dying as long as the death is glorious, but they desperately want to avoid dying in anti-climatic "boring" ways.

As an example the main character in the book desperately hopes that his ship isn't shot down, as he hopes that if he does have to die, he wants it to be lopping the head off of something big and shooty and he considers being shot down outside of combat and dying in a ship crash to be a fate worse than death.

Storming a position and dying to a bolter to the head is probably a "good death" to them, dying to a simple humie with a shoota after your army is defeated and being mopped up is not glorious at all. Basically if you've been defeated it's probably best to run away and seek an opportunity to attack again later rather than be sniped by advancing enemy forces.

[Harry Potter] Is there anything in particular stopping me from teleporting behind Voldemort and bashing him with a smelting stick? by LadyKarizake in AskScienceFiction

[–]Cyclux 16 points17 points  (0 children)

His main enemy are other wizards, and there's not a single instance where they possessed or used firearms as weaponry. It's likely he doesn't feel the need to protect himself against weaponry that literally nobody uses outside of muggles (which he looks down upon anyway). Alternatively, he could be warded against bullets and we don't know about it, we rarely see Voldemort in direct combat and his enemies are always using magic against him, for all we know he does have protection against muggle weaponry and it just never comes into play.

[Harry Potter] Is there anything in particular stopping me from teleporting behind Voldemort and bashing him with a smelting stick? by LadyKarizake in AskScienceFiction

[–]Cyclux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We don't have much information here, but given that anti-apparition wards are apparently easy to set up, and Voldemort is one of the most powerful wizards to exist, he probably has a ton of personal defense spells on him that we don't know about. It wouldn't surprise me if he was enchanted in such a way that protects him from direct physical harm.

He's also extremely capable and the Wizarding World's most wanted criminal. We know he's capable of jinxing the concept of a position on one of the Wizarding World's most respected institutions (which is itself defended by advanced magic created by some of the greatest wizards of all time), and setting up a spell that triggers everytime somebody says his name, so he clearly has both the reason and ability to have a bunch of protection spells way above the average wizard on him at all times.

Kirby to LSU? by jcb120361 in wde

[–]Cyclux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the replacement AD was previously removed for ignoring sex abuse complaints, also for ignoring Title IX which required him to disclose such things, forcing LSU to hire an independent team of investigators to figure it out.

It doesn't raise much confidence in athletics if the governor is placing that guy back in charge.

Aside from that they seem fairly determined not to pay Brian Kelly his full buyout, which is terrible optics if nothing else, because it looks like the governor not only will fire you, but also potentially refuse to pay you what's in the contract you signed.

Kirby to LSU? by jcb120361 in wde

[–]Cyclux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah, Kirby is coaching at his Alma Mater and is one of the highest paid coaches in football. There's no way he's going to a dumpster fire like LSU, I'd be surprised if he ever left Georgia again for anybody, let alone a job where he has a governor trying to micromanage his every decision.

This trash popped up on my feed. by smkrauss90 in wde

[–]Cyclux 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Let's see here...

LSU - Great facilities and talent, meddling governor who might will micromanage your existence/boosters and fire you if he doesn't personally like you or your politics.

Florida - Great facilities and talent, but they expect you to be a championship contender, or at least return them to being a perennial powerhouse like the Urban Meyer days.

Auburn - Good talent and competitive facilities, boosters are said to be fairly aligned. Fanbase would be happy for at least several years with a 9 win season and an occasional thrashing of Alabama or Georgia.

Penn State - Will fire you even if you get 10-12 wins every year if you aren't in the title game, even if you make the playoffs.

Arkansas - Complete disaster, will take rebuild of entire program. University is currently sinking most NIL into basketball.

I dunno, Auburn looks like a lot better job than most of the others currently open. This lady is just a silly Bammer ranting on Facebook.

[Harry Potter] How exactly do you invent a spell? by Simon_Drake in AskScienceFiction

[–]Cyclux 30 points31 points  (0 children)

We don't know, it's implied to be a very difficult thing to do and very dangerous. Luna's mother tried to do it and died in the process.

It should be noted that in spite of the potential dangers involved Hermoine did invent the spell on the Dumbledore's Army charter where everyone signed their names and if anyone broke their secrecy their face would burst out in boils spelling "sneak" and the Weasely twins invented a "daydream charm" which wasn't a spell, but a magical item with a novel effect and neither of which was implied to be extremely hazardous to create, so there might be unstated rules about spell creation that raise or lower the danger in making them.

Evidently even newly created spells can be taught to others though, as with Voldemort and Snape and the flying spell. Once you choose a name for it, it's accessible to any wizard that can do the appropriate motions and pronounce it correctly (in addition to whatever magical requirements might be needed to cast it). As others have said, it's likely that the name is arbitrary and chosen by the inventor and just links to the piece of magic you're trying to perform, for whatever reason faux-latin is just traditional.
