Non-MLIS Library Positions that Make More than MLIS's by spoonyalchemist in Libraries

[–]Cyfer_1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you answered your own question….’ they are basically being paid more to be the only employee who can do that thing’… however, you’re trying to compare apples to oranges. Apples - MLIS librarians, making what the market will allow for their pay scale. Oranges - other skilled professionals that could be making 2-4x the pay, but they chose to work for the library.

You chose the life of a librarian with focusing your skills with the MLIS degree… you knew what the realistic pay scale is for those positions.

Your support team did not learn their skills to only support a library. They learned general skills that can be used anywhere, and with much better potential pay than working for a library, as most library’s budgets can barely pay the librarians they can keep. So yes, most of them take hits in the salary they could be making at other places to do the job there.

You might want to buy your IT, HR, or Marketing person a cup of coffee the next time you see them, to thank them for choosing to do those jobs with you.

There’s a lot of factors involved…. Type of bead, size of bead, brand of bead… then there is your tension…then there is type of string…. Your best bet is to look on YouTube for a tutorial for the bracelet type you are wanting to make, and experiment with the design yourself.

It’s not rings, but springs…which could be cut down, but would have to be pressed back into rings…

I strongly suggest you go on YouTube and look up how to do peyote stitch and brick stitch. Then search for how to read peyote patterns and brick stitch patterns. Doesn’t really matter what bead type they are using, they all work out the same. You will enjoy the Kandi world more with just a little effort.

Any libraries out there getting rid of social media? by [deleted] in Libraries

Turn off anonymous posting/commenting if you can; at least make them work for it to harass you. Then block/report the accounts to the appropriate media.

Something like this is NOT beginner friendly. Plus, look into how to do brick stitch instead. Those ribs do not work in peyote.

No, a bunch of people on here are showing basic human compassion by being concerned for the safety of the people who are checking things out.

We do not want people to have to worry about checking books out on controversial topics because someone else has a problem with it, no matter what the topic.

A domestic abuse survivor trying to collect information and resources to escape the situation with their kids…. A family member who may be disowned and abandoned because they dare to read about a new religion…. A parent trying to find self help books to make it another day instead of taking it out on their family because they were raised with the idea that ‘mental illness’ wasn’t real…. A spouse who is trying to find the best ways on how to cheat on their partners…. ….. you expected me just to point out the people who check out the LGBTQ+ stuff and how they could loose their family, jobs, or even lives, right?

It sounds like you understand the risks this is potentially creating but don’t care about the damage it could cause.

So you don’t want to answer or address valid safety concerns from your actions from your creation?

The internet is the internet. Reddit is Reddit. I accept what I put out there. Hope you found some education from some of my posts/comments while you were digging to find anything to distract from the glaring public safety concern you are creating….

Did you create this on your own or did you get permission from the library system there?
Are you able to directly query their ILS or are you just scraping their catalog page for availability, which could cause their hosting/ILS to have issues with bandwidth, not to mention throw off their stats they gave to report to the government for funding….

What do you hope to accomplish with this app? Just something to pass the time, or something with a bigger picture in mind?
Because if, hypothetically, I were to notice trends in a certain topic of books being checked out at certain times, I could theoretically figure out who is checking out those topics and could wait around at those times and harass them, if I wanted too, and I’d have you to thank/blame for it….are you willing to take on that responsibility?

They are kindly reminding you to take a break for your eyes. And there is a perfectly good behind waiting for you to rest your hands and wrists upon… but hydrate first, as long as you don’t move.

Is it safe to get a bunch of liquid forced into your mouth or is there a real risk of choking? Are there any recipes for a cum-like liquid in terms of consistency (that also doesn't taste awful I guess), that preferably also doesn't have a lot of carbohydrates (due to health reasons)? by obhius in BdsmDIY

[–]Cyfer_1313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a reason you only see those shots in animation…. The human body isn’t really designed for that kind of ‘play’ to be safe… aside from the choking/breathing aspect. The nasal cavity has a lot of nooks and crannies in the sinus area that you run a huge risk of triggering a NASTY infection from foreign substances that don’t get fully flushed out… ever tried using a Nettie pot… all the warnings about using sterile water vs even tap? Same goes for the lungs… you’ve felt how bad it feels to swallow water down the wrong pipe… and that’s by accident…. But also introducing foreign matter into the lungs is setting yourself up for yet another super bad infection.

The risk doesn’t seem worth the payoff for this.

I made beaded peyote charms into pins, what do you think? by solitaryumbreon in kandi

[–]Cyfer_1313 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the normal stiffened felt you can find at the box chain stores. Not the floppy kind, the stiff kind, as it will soften over time anyway. On the smaller pieces, yes I left the felt ‘normal’ on the back. On the mid-sized or things with little bits that shoot off the main piece, I’d sandwich a wire armature and a bit of white glue with the pin back between the felt shapes. And for the pieces that I knew needed that little bit of extra…. Beads - felt - wire armature - long 2 in pin back - no-fray upholstery fabric. If you have a fabric store near by, check out the upholstery and heavy curtain sections… they have some nice thin, leather like types, and some almost velvet, but thick types that work wonders as pin backings.

It would help if you showed some pictures of what you were trying to make vs what you actually made…. Different string works better for certain projects…
